I am so picky about my haircuts and have tried so many high-end salons in the city. No one gets how to cut super thick hair! They insist on thinning it out, and layering in a way that does not bring out the best in my hairstyles. I work by Trio in Evanston so I tried it and could not be more pleased. Robyn is seriously the only one who’s ever given me a great haircut! She is so knowledgeable, super sweet, didn’t try to sell me on a bunch of product I didn’t need, and I left there feeling like a Pantene commercial. Loved her and still love my haircut! Two thumbs up!!!

Wow so disappointed in this place! First off I walk in and the receptionist didnt really welcome me. She looked at me funny I think because I wasnt white! Then I had a haircut with Robyn. She was a really nice person but she messed up my haircut. This was my first time going short & I was really upset she was so unexperienced. Then I got my hair colored by another lady she took about 2 hours to apply it. It came out alright but the haircut was bad I didnt really care about the color! To top it off my bill came out to 190! For a color and cut really?! I will never be back and I dont recommend this salon at all!

I just got the worst haircut of my life and it cost $ 85 plus tip… never again! I think my 7 year old could have done a better job. This place is so overpriced and no talent! Please do not make the same mistake. There are many other choices

So sad about Trio. New to area and need a cut. Big mistake-worst cut in years. The stylist did everything opposite of what was discussed and didn’t listen at all to what I said that my hair just wouldn’t do. It’s been several very frustrating weeks with a weed-whacked, un-stylable, UNEVEN haircut. Yes, UNEVEN — like an inch off! Thank goodness for bobby-pins and winter. At least I’ve been able to claim hat-head. To top it off, not even a call from the manager. Customers beware, the stylists at Trio will cut your hair whatever way THEY wish.

EVERYONEHEREISFANTASTIC! I love Barbara for my color. I have long blonde hair and she does a wonderful job of making my highlights look natural. She’s so good that I can go twice as long between appointment than I used to at my other salon. She’s also really friendly and honest. I also saw Phillip once for bayalage and was very happy with the results. For my cut I go to Robin but have also seen Chad. I’ve gotten amazing cuts from both of them that have grown out beautifully. I have a hard time deciding which I prefer so maybe I’ll just alternate between the two of them. When I was there for my color I had a few questions about what I should do with my cut or how to style my hair now that I needed a new no-fuss new-mom style. One of the stylists came over and gave me a lot of one on one attention and some great new styling tips, she was wonderful(I don’t remember her name). The shampoo girls give great head massages and blow-out styles. Do not worry if your stylists/colorists leave the finishing up to them. You are in good hands! The front desk people are exceptional. From the moment you call they make you feel welcome and offer helpful suggestions about who would be the best fit for your budget/needs. Erica is especially personable and it’s apparent that she loves her job even though she works long days mostly on her feet. My drink is always filled and there are plenty of great magazines to flip through. I am always well pampered by their professional and friendly staff. This a definitely a salon where you don’t feel like just another number. They go out of their way to genuinely make you feel at home and appreciate your business. I can not say enough good things about this place. I trust that no matter who I see there(if my regular person is booked) I will leave looking great. It’s also the kind of place that if you do see someone else at the salon you don’t feel like you’re «cheating» on your regular person. Sometimes it’s good to switch things up or just that you love them all and can’t just pick one. Seriously, give this place a try. You won’t be disappointed.

I had my hair done here back in june, I feel awful about not writing a review sooner because the results were great. I had michelle do the cut and Iwen with the color. Michelle(i looked at their talent list and didn’t see her, not sure if she is still there… i hope i don’t have the name wrong) gave me a cute bob that worked well with wavy/curly hair. Iwen, so much to say, first off very personable easy to talk to. Her judgement on hair color is awesome, i was going from a orange/red to a blonde for the summer and she toned it done to a great shade. she talked me out of a complete blonde and my hair came out to a strawberryish honey, loved it. i will be going back soon in a week or two to see iwen again.

My wife checked the web site for pricing, which said $ 53+. A particular stylist had been recommended by a friend, so my wife booked me with her. She was very sweet, and I love her work. When I went to pay the bill, I was stunned to find that it came to $ 103. The receptionist explained that, yes, some of the stylists there do charge $ 53. Mine just happened to charge almost twice that. Just for a men’s cut – nothing fancy, not even blow drying. Not cool, Trio. New clients should be notified at the time of their appointments what the bill will come to.

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Trio — The staff is amazing and Robyn(the stylist I’ve been going to for years) is fantastic. The difference between Robyn and other stylists I’ve been to(at other salons) is that she actually listens to what you want and gives you exactly that. I’ve been to her for weddings updos, regular hair cuts, and most recently I booked my sister’s bridal hair with her. I’ve never been anything but 100% satisfied and would HIGHLY recommend her. I also have to give my compliments to the staff — When I was stressed out about timing and logistics for my sister’s wedding, they totally took charge. They gave me realistic timing, pricing, and even called me to follow up several times. On the day of the wedding things went without a hitch. I was completely satisfied! All in all– 5 Stars for Robyn and the Trio Staff!

I have been coming here since I moved here– I started with Barbara the colorist and she is by far the best I have ever used. my hair color is hard to match as it is a red and my color with her is great. I get stopped on the street on my color. I have also started seeing Robyn for cuts and have also been happy. it is such a nice experience going to trio. I would definitely recommend

Be careful to check your receipt when purchasing products. My wife stopped in to buy a $ 40 item and did not look at the receipt. Only later when the credit card invoice came did she notice she had been billed $ 190! This may have been a careless mistake on the part of the person at the counter, but it never hurts to verify the price on the receipt.

I found a colorist! I can finally get my hair cut and colored all in the same appointment, rather than dividing my time between two salons. I had been seeing Iwen at the downtown location, and loved her. Because of my impulsive /fickle approach to my hair, I hadn’t seen her in a while and was super bummed when I’d heard she left. Iwen, wherever you are, you rocked. So I took a leap of faith and booked a color appointment w/Jada at the Evanston location. It was my first experience with her, and I’m super impressed. My hair has been described, by many stylists, as «challenging.» It’s extremely porous and takes color very quickly, so I always tell a new colorist to err on the conservative side and give me something with a brown base. They almost never believe me and then my hair turns out BRIGHT red. As I’m getting older, that look is getting harder and harder to pull off. Jada not only listened but apparently took notes, because I just went back to her for a 2nd appointment and she rocked the color yet again, this time taking me to a nice copper w/out too much red. Jada’s not super-chatty, which is great for me because I tend to be quiet myself. So I start out with Jada and ease into the process, and then by the time I get to Robyn I’m feeling more social. Jada does talk through what she’s going to do with your hair, and I love that. This seems like something ALL colorists should do, at least until you’ve been with them for a while. I’m so happy I finally have a stylist and colorist in the same building!

It seems I’m the only reviewer who’s had bad luck here. Maybe it’s my karma. Anyway, I didn’t like it. I’ve been twice. The first time, I was coming off a long affair with pink hair dye and extensions. I needed all the overbleached hair taken off my head and asked for a short, choppy, punky cut. The guy who cut my hair proceeded to give me some poofy seventies thing, telling me that if he made it any shorter I wouldn’t have a style. It looked fine for all of an hour before all the product he’d put in it to keep it in shape gave up the ghost. My hair is really thick and heavy and there’s no point in trying to make it defy gravity. He tried. He failed. And I had to go somewhere else to have it fixed, cuz once the spray gave out it just looked stupid and wouldn’t stay out of my eyes, AND there were still super dead bleached ends to deal with. Experience number two: I needed a very specific hair style for a wedding. I made an appointment *three weeks* in advance, telling them exactly what I needed done. Less than a week before the date, I get a phone call telling me they did not, in fact, have a stylist that could do what I wanted, sorry. They gave me less than a week to find someone else who could do it when they had three bloody weeks to figure out that none of their people had the skillz. So yeah, not a fan. Everyone else seems to love them to pieces. Maybe I just really didn’t get lucky. But both times they failed me, Art+Science came through with the goods so that’s where I go.

I read these reviews, and went to Robin as a result. You all are nuts. Everyone said she was good with curly hair, but she gave me a chop job. ugliest layers ever. It will litterally take me years to grow this out. I should have left, when, at the beginning, she said to me: «I’ll have to keep reminding myself how much shorter this will be when it’s dry». NO! If you know curly hair, it’s second nature. If you cut off one inch, it’s 2 or 3 when it’s dry. Robin is not a curly hair expert at all. We agreed that it should rest on my shoulders when all was said and done. It rested on my shoulders wet. Needless to say, with curly hair, it was WAY too short when done. She uselessly tried to pull/straighten the bottom layer to make it look like it wasn’t so short. But she blew it. And the choppy layers cause my hair to curl in little flips. I’ve never had that problem. My hair curls in coils. I’ve never had such a lousy cut in my life. If you have«jewish» or «latino» curly hair, DON’T go to Robin, she’ll mess it up!

I had to come back to give them a break. I know I said it’s expensive, but I’m starting to realize this is fairly standard these days. Plus, I just can’t allow people to pass the place up just b/c ratings turned them away. Again, Chad is great. My husband told me he knows what looks good on me better than I do, and I have to agree. He’s an artist, and he wears cool scarves.

It’s been a number of years that I’ve been searching for the best stylist and colorist; didn’t find anyone great until I started going to Trio. I randomly got appointed to Kim — and Barbara is my colorist. What a TEAM! Kim knows exactly how to cut my crazy, unruly, curly hair and blow it straight so it stays straight for 4 – 5 days(it’s not as gross as it seems, I swear…). And when I do wear it curly, it always falls in the right place, and is low-maintenance, the way I like it. Barbara is my colorist and the amount of compliments I get on the color is amazing. People really notice: «stunning,» «gorgeous,» and«perfect» were some of the words used when noticing my hair color. I could go on for days but all I will say is… I am thrilled with the work they do, and highly recommend them. I should also add that the prices aren’t too bad(although I am afraid that if Kim and Barbara get too many rave reviews their prices will go up!), and the service from the salon assistants and other staff is always friendly and accommodating. The salon is clean and well-maintained.
