LONG overdue review.
I’ve been coming here since longer than I can remember. At least for the last 10 years.
I have very curly Jew hair and as a kid, before I found this place, I used to get the worst haircuts. I had the dreaded triangle-​head of poorly cut curls. But Ailie knows what to do with curly hair. I trusted her to cut off a good six inches or more a while back and have never been happier.
I also get highlights here – usually by Ailie as well, but Stevie did the last batch and they look fabulous.
Lastly, I had Ailie do my hair and my bridesmaids’ hair for my wedding. If that isn’t an endorsement I don’t know what is.

I’m writing this review after I moved to Denver and I still haven’t been able to recover from moving away from my favorite boutique salon. I worked at Aim & Ailie for about 5 months during the spring and summer months. It was one of the best experiences I could have had coming straight from beauty school.
First off, the products they use are absolutely fabulous. I couldn’t be happier that Aim & Ailie sells products that are sulfate and paraben free. It’s really worth it to take care of your hair as early on as you can. By using their products (Morroccan Oil, Kevin Murphy, Deva Curl, etc) it can really help your hair do a complete 360. It’s amazing.
All of the girls who work there are awesome. From the front desk, all the way to the assistant stylist. I’m so happy to have been able to work underneath Ailie. She’s SUCH an amazing and talented artist. I really admire her and the way she has with hair and her clients. She makes it look effortless! Megan is awesome at color and she gives great haircuts as well. She can really give you an amazing color, cut, AND look in no time! Hannah is always super cheerful and willing to give great advice on what she believes would be best for your hair. Well after all, she did have some amazing master stylists to work underneath so I wouldn’t expect her to be anything less than what she’s become!
There’s a real comforting and homely feeling here at Aim & Ailie. I really miss it. If I didn’t have to move to Denver, I would still be working there and probably transitioning into a stage that Hannah was once in! You’d be a fool not to go here and try the salon out for yourself. Believe me, the salon and the vibe will speak for itself!

Having incredibly thick, curly, frizzy hair, I have struggled to find a hair stylist who knew how to cut it appropriately. I finally found Hannah– she gives AMAZING cuts, especially if you have thick or curly hair. She really knows how to give you the cut you want while keeping it appropriate for your hair type. She is also one of the sweetest people in the world who is friendly while not talking your ear off. Won’t be getting my hair cut by anyone else anytime soon (the price also can’t be beat).
If you ever have an issue with your cut or color, the staff is amazingly helpful and will have you come back in right away to get it fixed. Everyone at Aim & Ailie is as friendly as it gets, and the cozy feel of the salon makes you feel right at home.

I loved my experience at Aim & Aillie! When I called the salon, the receptionist took the time to talk with me about my hair (length, type, etc.) and what I was looking for in a cut to help place me with a stylist. Then, they were able to fit me in the next evening. (I have pretty flexible schedule, too, which I’m sure helped.)
The salon itself has a great «feel;» everyone seemed enthusiastic about helping customers pick the best style for their overall look. And the stylist who cut my hair — Meghan — did an excellent job. I ended up cutting off at around seven inches and went with a stacked bob. I love it!
NOTE: Bring cash. They don’t take debit for tips. There’s an ATM a few blocks down the street, if you need it!

It was oddly traumatic for me when my hair stylist of over 7 years moved away to a different city. Add on top of that, moving to an unfamiliar neighborhood where I didn’t know anyone who could give me a recommendation. In response to this, I grew my hair out shaggy as I waffled between which new salon to try.
Until we drove by Aim & Ailie one day. I was like, «That’s the place.» Loved the design and overall vibe of the place. Modern but still a place you could feel comfortable. Called the receptionist who was really helpful and friendly and understanding. Making an appointment was super easy. She also made me feel confident that Megan would do a great job on my wavy hair.
And she did. Megan was very careful with all my layers and layers, and I ended up with a great cut that was exactly what I was looking for. She’s great to talk to and she gave me easy ideas for styling which I’ve actually kept up with.
But, what really makes this place a gem, is that you can tell the stylists really like working with one another too. They joke around and happily help each other out and make suggestions too. It’s a great neighborhood salon that makes you look good and feel good too.

I got my first Devacut here and I loved it! Ailie made me feel super comfortable and you could tell she was fully confident in her skill with curly hair and had a passion for it. I showed her a few photos of what I was looking at and she gave me exactly what I asked for! Highly recommended her to anyone. The staff were very nice and made me feel right at home.

I defected from Art & Science about a year ago and started coming to what was then Amy G. Salon, which had already been purchased by Ailie, a stylist at Amy G.
Appropriately, the salon is now called Aim & Ailie after the new owners, who should be proud to have their names on the front window for all to see. This is my perfect salon. The staff is always friendly, genuine and laid back. You can come here dressed up or in yoga pants and feel right at home. Great products, great atmosphere and phenomenal service.
My über curly hair is notoriously difficult to cut, but Ailie and her Diva Cut seem to make it look easy. She is a master with curly hair and has done my color (shhh…I’m going gray) beautifully as well. Additionally, Ailie makes sure you are always happy with the results and guarantees all of her work — super impressive! My daughter recently had her hair cut by Penny and was thrilled with the results — perfectly cut.

Aim & Ailie is the hair salon formerly known as Amy G. I have been a customer here since 2010 and I’ve always had Ailie cut my hair. Everyone at the shop is friendly and fun. I always feel welcome when arriving and I’ve always been very happy with what Ailie does with my hair.
I can’t say enough great things about Aim & Ailie! Really fantastic Evanston hair salon!
