Safari Park Half Marathon and 5K Family Fun Walk

I did it!!! My first half mara with a 2:14:07!!!

So far… Smooth entrance… It’s because I got there early. I did note that the directions in the packet coming from the North was incorrect; however, I was early enough so it was all good.
It was dark upon arrival and the bathroom lines were super long. I did opt to use the port-​o-​potties since there was no line, but there was NO light. I had to struggle by using my phone for help. Luckily, I had antibac wipes/​gel with me since there were no washing facilities.
Bag check was smooth, and the race was timely. It was bottlenecked at the beginning, but soon opened up as the race progressed.
I was disappointed that most of the run was outside of the park, and I really didn’t see any animals. Maybe they slept in on weekends ?! I didn’t care for the slant in the main highway, which totally tore up my ankles and almost rolled them a few times.
Sure there were several water/​powerade stops, but the times I really needed them, there weren’t avail.
I understand that many people weren’t able to get in due to the road closure, but we were all forewarned.
Traffic was a mess!!! I did, however, stay in the park for a couple hours so traffic wasn’t as bad leaving as others experienced.
Although it was great to partake in this inaugural event, I’m not certain whether I’d do the run again. If the course changes for next year, bathroom issues resolved and traffic is reconfigured, I’d def reconsider.
