The Grand Maples has the BEST grill cheese sandwich I had ever eaten. I was visiting my niece who had a performance at the Art theater and my brother purchased her a grill cheese is was so good. On my way home I drove from Oceanside to Escondido 30 minutes out of my way just to purchase another one That’s how good it was. The sourdough, several types of cheeses and the garlic butter was a good combination. Well worth the drive and the price.

My wife and i had dinner here about four times during the summer months [dog friendly too] everytime we tried something different. Each time were very happy with the food and the service. we have always sat outside on the patio cause we had fido with us. Pricing seemed fair and waiters were helpful and friendly. both the calamari and maple grand frys are top notch, they did seem to be open later then most restaurants on grand ave thats a plus for us because we like to eat later and miss the crowds. We will return, please give them a try. We would like to see them stay, but i think a lot of restaurants loose momentum after CRUZINGRAND ends.

Comfortable sitting at the bar, you’re well take care of. Burgers fit the bill, if that is what you are craving. Both the traditional and the bison burgers are worth ordering. Sides of fries and onion rings are over-the-top amazing. House wine was good. Sculpin on draft, nice and cold. Friendly conversation with other patrons. The people next to us ordered the sliders off the kids menu. Hey, I want that. Next time. Perfectly serviceable for a beer and burger at the bar. [reading through the other reviews, and being an Esco resident, I have to say I don’t judge restaurants on Grand by how many people are in them. Other cities, yes, but not here. Unfortunately WE patrons are the fickle ones who only flock to Grand on the Cruise on Grand nights, which are now over for the season. I wish more people would be out and about during the week and weekend nights on Grand. Honestly, it has to be feast or famine for these business owners. Take the pledge to eat out more, and patronize the non-chains!]

It has potential and I need more people to come in so we can see how truly awesome this place can be. Come check it out! One of the few places in escondido that stays open passed midnight. Awesome patio reasonably priced drinks friendly bartenders. Could use some help with the décor and I’m totally available if they want input ;)

We passed this place and Unilocaled it, great reviews and for a good reason! We ordered the brussel sprouts with pancetta for an appetizer and they were delicious! We also got the Ahi poke and the lobster mac & cheese. They were so good! We thought it might be a small portion since it was 10 – 15 per plate(appetizer) and the portions were really big! We had to take most of the food home but it was a good price for the amount of food we got. Now we have leftovers for lunch! The service was amazing! Kate(Katie) was our waitress and she was so sweet, smiley and attentive! She made our experience even better! We will definitely be coming back!

We were surprised how empty it was for 7pm on a Saturday night, but they are relatively new. The food was excellent and their drink menu is great. The service was also very good. But I felt like a place as nice as this that has entrees on the menu over $ 25 should have tablecloths and cloth napkins(the tables are wood formica and the napkins were paper). Also, the television for the bar is right over the entrance to the dining room and was turned up WAY too loud. They might want to consider playing music in the dining room as well.

Always looking for a new favorite place, and this is now it! Have to warn you, the lay-out is odd: you walk into the bar, which is rather daunting if you are coming in to eat or have kidlets with you. The host area is shoved off to the side, almost like an after-thought. You go into the dining area, which is nice décor, or you can eat al fresco either along Grand or on the beautiful patio out back. We ate inside, and the Pub Crawl bunch celebrating 10 feet away was loud, but as soon as they left, the place was chill. On to the service: The hostess needs to go into another line of work, especially one that does not have contact with living people. Apparently she is on her final week, which will be a major boon for business. The waiter is gorgeous and is about the best server I have ever experienced. Knew evrything about the menu, knew the intricacies of all the beers and wines as well as the foods. He made sure that our glasses were filled, our food was served promptly, but never hovered or was lurking. We were lucky enough to rolled in there just before Happy Hour ended, which made ordering from the rather large beer and wine list even better. We ordered the Thai Chili Calamari for starters, and it was terrific. It comes with two different sauces; both are delicious. The portion was large enough for three large, hungry men and myself. I was pleased with the menu; not the same ol’ same ol’. The burger list was inventive, including a Bison burger, which one of my sons ordered, and he loved it. My other son had a Grand Burger, which he is till saying was the best burger he’s ever eaten. These all came with a choice of a mound of shoestring fries, onion rings or a salad. I had a delicious grilled Mahi, and chose the seasonal veggies.(The other choices were mashed red potatoes, roasted red potateos, or rice pilaf.) The sauce on the mahi and veggies was buttery and soft and delectable. Our most excellent waiter told us that in addition to the hostess being replaced(YAY!), the new exective chef was coming on soon. I figured that if their food was this good without an actual Head Chef, this place is going to be amazing once he actually starts! Looking forward to my next visit !

We got the Ahi Poke, Brussels Sprouts, and the Santa Fe Spring Rolls. Delicious. It was basically empty! We need to get more people in here. Our server was great, always on top of refilling our drinks and seeing to our needs, but not overwhelming. =] Overall, we will be back.

Went here last night for drinks with a friend, the bartender Rowland is extremely personable and entertaining. I assumed everything would cost an arm and a leg judging by how nice the place is but the drinks were normal(or slightly lower) price-wise and they had some great craft beer selections on tap. Also they have swing dancing in the back room every other Tuesday night which is awesome. I will definitely be coming back here.

We stopped in to eat dinner on a Thursday evening at about 5:30pm. The place was virtually empty with only a couple of tables occupied. We were seated quickly and our waitress was the best part of the visit. She was attentive and served us quickly. Our drinks were wine and beer and both were good but a bit on the pricy side. Now on to the food, not good. We both order dishes that had chicken in them. Mine had a sliced chicken, mashed potatoes and veggies in a cream sauce. The chicken was just plain uneatable. It was dry, did not even taste like chicken and very tough. The sauce was a sticky paste and not very appealing or tasting. The best part was the mashed potatoes, but then again it’s really hard to mess them up. The portions were medium in size. Both of us left a lot on the plate because it was just bad food. On a scale of 1 – 10 for the food, I’d give this about a 3 – 4. The value for the price was not too good. Our bill was high for what we got in quality of food. We will not go back here and I could not recommend this to other.

So I left A good time at O’Sullivans to try this new place out! Unilocal said it was open until 2 on Saturdays. Came to it at 12:20, and it was closed. That sucks.

HORRIBLECUSTOMERSERVICEFROMROWLAND: This review is purely on customer service. If I could give no stars I would. We entered through the back entrance. We weren’t greeted with a smile instead it was a rude look like we were bothering the waiter(ROWLAND) who told us to check in with the host… it was dead… but okay, we obliged. We were seated(by the host) at the one table with no shade, so we moved to the fire pit. now I usually love this location so I leave this negative review with great pain. The food was bland at best, the chicken tortilla was flavorless and lacked something, the nachos were skimpy on cheese and toppings. When check time came Rowland refused to split the bill and said it was our job to keep track… so i asked him for a pen and gladly divided the bill up. The bill still came back wrong. When I brought this to his attention he seemed arrogant, onery and condescending at the sight of having to rework the register. He had a bad attitude from the get go so his manners didn’t surprise me. I told him I would not pay for something I didn’t eat or drink, I asked him to be nicer and asked why he was being so unwelcoming and rude, he put his hands in the air and said we weren’t worth the trouble and said to «forget about it» it did not seem like he was comping the bill as a gracious gesture, but more of a public shaming. In no way was I looking for a free meal, his insincere smiles and condescending comments have left me with a bitter taste I will not soon be forgetting. He may belittle women in his life, but he wilk not belittle a paying customer. I work hard for my money and dont throw it away at ungrateful locations where i am «not worth it»…if you like the rude, fake, bougie waiters this is your spot. Supposedly my card will not be charged, but I will post picture updates as it is showing as a pending charge on my Mastercard. Shame on you, I was a loyal patron for quite some time. I will not be coming back anytime soon and will warn my fellow friends of the lack of customer service from said waiter. VERYDISAPPOINTEDINCUSTOMERSERVICE. WHATHAPPENED???

I came to this place for lunch. When I looked at the menu I thought that the prices were steep. I don’t mind spending the money if the food taste good. Well I am giving it 5 stars for a reason. You have to check this place out. I loved it.

I had an amazing dinner and experience tonight. I sat at the bar and Brian took care of everything. The drinks were excellent and he made sure my surf and turf was gluten-free. It was so good I didn’t even have time to take a picture before I inhaled it! This place is definitely my go to for lunch and dinner on grand:))

Where to start! I loved the total atmosphere of the place, very relaxing and friendly staff. The bartender Bryan makes some amazing margaritas with his own specially touch. The food is always fresh, hot and super tasty! I personally like the bison burger that comes on the pretzel bun yummmmmy! The panchetta fries for an appetizer are so good, it’s a must try! Overall great experience and I will be back!

This place is a nice little gem on Grand in Escondido. We really enjoyed our food. I ordered the beet salad and my husband had the salmon with baby red mashed potatoes. It was deliciously amazing! The bartender Josh was very sweet and made the night a delight.

Walk in, barely anybody in there maybe four tables when we came in around 7:30(kind of weird but we knew they are a new restaurant so didn’t think anything of it.) sat down and look at the menu. Seems very overpriced for the type of food. Most appetizers were above $ 10. Seems crazy. But hey, they could be big portions. We order the Baja fries because nothing on the menu really seem very good for the price. It comes out and looks like a giant congealed fry pile topped with a few shreds of cheese, some chunks of steak, small dollop of sour cream, and HALF an avocado. Let me be clear, this is an appetizer. This was extremely disappointing. The fries were actually crunchy. Every single of them, like they took a frozen ball of fries and threw it in the fryer for ten minutes and forgot about it. We had to get extra sour cream to drown out the taste. The roofs of our mouths are on the verge of bleeding. I hope this place gets better, because my experience wasn’t very good. I definitely won’t be back, I could probably make everything on the menu at home for a quarter the price. Lower prices, higher quality. Service staff is very good though I appreciated that.

Swami’s used to be at this location, but they moved a couple of doors down. This place opened in their old location, about 30 seconds after Swami’s moved. Always happy to try out a new place in downtown Esco, so I came in to check it out. The place wasn’t busy(it was about 6pm), but I would chalk that up to it being mid-week and the place being new. Service was quick and friendly, always a good place to start. Pretty good-sized menu, I decided to go with the lobster mac and cheese. A good-sized portion, and the cheese sauce was a little bit runny– different than what I’m used to, but in a good way. Tasty, me like. But I was ravenous, and my rocket-like metabolism demanded more before I had hardly started; so I ordered a couple of sliders, anticipating their arrival just as I finished the mac and cheese. The sliders came out about 1 – 2 minutes after I ordered them, which would have been like, «Whoa!», except that it was evident that they had been sitting under a heat lamp for quite some time… Oops, sad trombone… Lettuce wilted brown where it was exposed, patties lukewarm, these babies shouldn’t have passed muster. Maybe they pre-made some because it’s happy hour, or maybe these were a mistake from another order that found a home on my table, but this is a no-no. I ate them as-is, and they were acceptable; if they had been fresh with the lettuce crispy and the patties hot they likely would have been delicious. Oh well, we all make mistakes(even Adam and Eve got kicked out of the Garden, people), and these guys are just getting started(they’ve been open three weeks, I think), so I won’t grade harshly. I still had a little room in the fundus of my stomach so I went with dessert, which was a tequila-lime cheesecake. Very good crust, filling was just a little sweet, a little tart; not as strong in character as a Key Lime would be. Yummy, very good effort, but could be tweaked just a little. The dessert came with the longest spoon that I’ve ever been given in a restaurant, which for some reason made me feel a bit like the Mad Hatter as I was eating the cheesecake. Pretty sure that’s not what they were shooting for, but I liked it. Oh, and I guess that the long spoon would facilitate sharing across the table, if you’re into that sort of thing(sharing, I mean). All in all, a good new addition to downtown, and I liked what I ate. They’ve got the ingredients for success and are working towards refinement. I’ll be back in a few weeks for another shot and I’ll post an update when I do.
