The whole family needed dinner at 9:45pm on Friday night and the guys at the car dealership said this was the spot and wow they were right. Friendly Lady at the counter let us know that the carne asada was the most popular. So three of us got asada burritos one a fajita version and my vegetarian got a chille relleno burrito and WOW Delicious. We dont get sodas just complimentary waters and the bill was 28 dollars for 4. The nice lady gave us free some re-fried bean and cheese nachos while we waited which we liked also. Only drawbacks is they are cash only and the seating is outside but not enough of a drawback to take away a star for me

My favorite place in north county for a tasty and juicy carne asada burrito. The meat is always hot, flavor and just the right amount of juicy. NEVERDRY. The tortilla is always done right. Not stretchy like Alberto’s or Jilbertos. And of coarse the red salsa. I always ask for more because I can never have enough. Flavorful and just the right amount of spicy. Their Chicharron Burritos are also on point. Been coming here since I was 5 years old and will keep coming till they close. Just bring cash cause they take any other payment.

I would like to start off by saying that the food is very amazing! It’s delicious and flavorful! Unfortunately they only take cash, which is kind of a bummer for many people. I wouldn’t necessarily say that the employees are rude, however, they could maybe be a little more friendly. Don’t underestimate the food by the way the restaurant looks! The food is delicious!

The food is okay but lately the burritos are more tortilla than meat. Even the bean and cheese burritos(which do not cost a lot to make) have more tortilla than beans…

HORRIBLE experience! VERYPOORCUSTOMERSERVICE! Someone recommended this place so I was there with my entire family(10 people) obviously we had to ask how many aguas frescas flavors they had and the cashier kept on rolling her eyes on me every single time I asked her a question, her body language was more like telling us to hurry up and order so there I was trying to order just wherever and she kept on rushing me! I paid her and I was ordering for my mom and dad when we asked if they had soup and in a very disrespectful way she said«NOSOUP»!!! I got tired of her attitude and ask her for a full refund and she threw all my money on the counter and told me that she never told me anything and that I was having a nasty attitude, I ask for the manager/owner number and she started yelling«WHYDOYOUWANTIT? ITSINYOURRECEIPTANDYOUCANTELLTHEMWHATEVERTHAHELLYOUWANT. YOU’RETHEONEHAVING A BADDAYANDYOU’REJUSTBLAMINGITONME»!! and she started yelling at the cook guy«don’t cook anything she’s leaving»! I just turned around and walk back to my car! THEREISNOWAY I CANRECOMMENDMYFRIENDSNORANYBODYELSETHISPLACE !!! I GETBETTERSERVICEWITHTHEICECREAMMANSMH

Went here for lunch while my car was being repaired. California Burrito was pretty good. Decent amount of carne asada and for 6.50 its a decent price too. I would come back again.

I love this little place, I started eating here when I couldn’t see over the counter, actually before then when it was The Burger Barrel. I remember eating here after a long summer day at the pool, about 40 years ago. The place has always been friendly, consistent and the food is what mexican food should be, simple. Whenever I’m down south, I eat here, the food is awesome along with the memories. And what’s up with the red hot sauce?, it’s not hot, but it tastes killer on all their food, pure nirvana. Get the Carne Asada tacos, put a bunch of the hot sauce on them, and you’ll agree.

Always really awesome, the food is fresh and the owners are really nice. For all the people that tclike a hole in the wall taco shop, I definitely recommend this place –is my go to, and I live across town! The food is made to order and is really cheap for what you’re getting. They never fail to satisfy. They have pretty much everything, from sopes to burritos. They even fry their thick cut french fries right in front of you.

We’ve been coming to this place since I was a kid. I love coming here. They are cash only so you have to deal with that but it’s really not that big of a deal. I’ve been having problems with my orders the last few times I’ve been here. Ever since the fire they had, I’ve noticed their burritos have gotten A LOT smaller. Not sure what happened but they changed the size of them and you get a lot less for your money now. They’ve always been good about getting my order right… until the fire. Not sure what it was about it but the last few times I’ve been here. something has been missing or was just absolutely wrong. Today I got the chorizo, egg, bean, and cheese burrito… No beans, no cheese. and there was a TON of chorizo which just absolutely overpowered it. I hate to give this place such a bad review because of how long I’ve been coming here… but if they mess up my order one more time I definitely won’t be coming back.

Let me start with a story. Over the weekend my husband and I celebrated his birthday at Disneyland. It was incredibly hot so we stayed in the hotel most of the time. We were both craving some good taco shop so we found a place near our hotel called Alertos. I haven’t had carne asada fries in awhile so I ordered some. They were the BEST carne asada fries. They were made with fries, carne asada, cheese, refried beans, sour cream and guacamole. I’ve never had them with beans before(shocking I know) and probably will never eat them without it again. When we got back home I was on a mission to find carne asada fries here in Escondido like the ones I had in Anaheim. My husband and I have lived here for about 2 years and we always wanted to try El Indio so we decided to look there first. I was floored when I found out they make their carne asada fries exactly like Alertos. Not only do they make them the same THEYAREBETTER. They are better than the best carne asada fries I’ve ever had. My husband had the fish tacos and he said they were really good. The two ladies who work there are so nice. The prices were very reasonable. I have nothing bad to say. I can’t wait to go back!

Just ate here today and I only had the Carne Asada fries. They were average but on the higher end of the spectrum. Carne asada was good and beans were flavored well. Prices were reasonable and I would definitely come back to try a burrito. If the tortillas are good then they r on a roll. I recently just moved back to the area and this place has been here since i was a little kid. That was about 20 yrs ago so they must be doing something right.

We go here once a week at least. I’ve never had a bad meal here and I prefer their California Burrito to any I’ve found in SoCal. The price and portions are legit and they get food out fast! We started eating breakfast here too because it’s so convenient, affordable, fast and DELICIOUS! I take all my out of town guests here so I can show off!

So good! And it’s so cheap! Fresh cooked tortillas for the tacos! The cheese enchiladas were amazing. The nicest staff! I wish there was one close to me! Definitely eat here!!!

We made a special trip to El Indio because our friend mentioned they had the best salsa. The flavor was good, but it was too liquid for me, as I prefer chunky salsa. Not much to say about this taco shop, as its just what you would expect from a taco shop in Escondido. Cheap, huge portions, nothing fancy mexican food. I can’t complain too much when you can leaved stuffed for $ 7 or $ 8.

My general theory regarding Mexican food is that the closer to Mexico you get, the better the Mexican food gets. El Indio de Tijuana is no exception to this rule. They have been immune to price raises and lavish expansion to try to compete with the fast food chains, yet the food quality and consistency has remained steady over all the years I stop through after a week of camping down south. $ 1.50 beans cheese and chips plate? Who says small businesses can’t compete?

Haven’t been here in a decade, but back then I went a couple of times. The food is very uninspired, oily/greasy, fake cheese etc etc. Gross!
