The beat BBQ I’ve eaten on the West Coast. The smoked brisket and the chopper are amazing. Mac salad, beans, and cornbread are A+!!

So glad I stopped here. Nice little diner with old fashioned values. Clean and friendly. Yummy and to order. Really what one wants when on the road stopping at a random spot. I had the pulled pork(hold the roll)…may I have the cornbread on the side instead? No problem! Didn’t want mayo, so the side was green salad. Really, they aim to please. Choices of sides are many and the BBQ is on point. Place was clean and has a two person counter. Adorable, and a good bird’s eye view of how fresh and how to order everything was… Try it!

This diner was great! The BBQ pulled pork sandwich was the best. Coleslaw was tasty and fresh. Restrooms were spotless and the dining area was clean. We had a delightful chat with the owner and plan to come back next time we come through town.

Mary Beth’s Phat Hogs BBQ is a MUST for anyone traveling to or thru Escalon. You won’t be disappointed! The prices are oh so reasonable. But first, a big THANKYOU to the folks at the Escalon Museum for pointing us in the direction of this quaint but«aim to please» eatery. I ordered the 2 rib(regular sauce vs the spicy) with sides of chili beans, potato salad and cornbread. OMG! I actually used my spoon to eat every morsel of meat and sauce from ONE rib. The potato salad was like I make at home, not vinegary and oh! so tasty! I couldn’t consume anymore than a few bites of the potato salad and chili, and about ¼ of the cornbread. My hubby is a big guy, so he ordered one of the specials — the grilled sausage(bratwurst?) topped with chili beans and diced red onions, side of potato salad. It was ENORMOUS! He ate all the salad, and plowed thru HALF of the sausage before laying his fork down! Wowser! I’ve NEVER known him to not finish everything on his plate. We sipped a mix of their sweet/regular teas. And shared a pineapple cobbler topped with vanilla ice cream. The pineapple is enveloped in a pastry(batter). Absolutely scrumptious! In the display case were a mixed berry cobbler and peach cobbler(baked daily) which I immediately scooped up to take home. Bellies full, we trekked back home, smiling and looking forward to our ‘take home’ portions for dinner and the cobblers traveling in the back seat. The folks here are friendly and quite hospitable. We’re definitely looking forward to our next visit.

I have never written a review before but this place absolutely deserves it. The food is amazing i had the Memphis pulled pork sandwich and house salad. Yummy! The sweet tea was perfect. The people were so friendly it feels like your at a long lost relative’s house eating delicious food in a comfortable relaxing atmosphere

This roadside eatery is AWESOME! Family run delicious food! I had the Memphis sandwich with the brisket– AMAZING! Pasta salad was wonderful as well! The food is a bit more city priced– the Memphis sandwich was $ 9, but the portions were huge and it came with a pretty decide sized side. All the sauces for the sandwiches seem to be unique and well paired with the meats. Services is incredible and friendly. A must stop when you’re on Hwy 120!

Empty your saving account before you come to eat here. Came here for lunch with friends. I spent 18 dollars on sandwich and one rib. The food is nothing great. Really disappointed with this place.

Stopped by for dinner based on Unilocal reviews. Awesome Tri Tip, salad, clam chowder, and cobbler. Everyone was so nice, friendly, and kind. I highly recommend a stop in passing through.

We had delicious ribs and brisket and finished it with an amazing apple cobbler. The bbq sauce is outstanding so we took home a pint. Mary and her family are wonderful people and were a pleasure to talk to. We’ll definitely be back for more and to try their breakfast.

Had the best breakfast I’ve had in a long long time. Bacon was crispy and thick, potatoes are the kind I make when I go camping. Biscuits and gravy were superb, homemade biscuits, what a great find. Service is so friendly, prices are very affordable. Waffles looked great, next time.

First off if you happen to traveling in an RV there is room to park which is a plus. We’re pretty picky about our bbq and this place totally hit the mark as excellent. The pulled pork had a nice bark and was overflowing the bun so it is a very good value. Could only eat half the macaroni salad was good, the husband had the coleslaw which was a little better. The service was super friendly it is all family run. So stop in as your traveling thru. They also serve breakfast all day.

Well, I will definitely have to stop in here more often ! Tried it for the first time today. Super friendly family feel here. I had the fat hog pulled pork sandwich with spicy barbecue sauce. MAN that poem was tender! Came with one choice of there sides. I had the macaroni salad. Very fair pricing and they are open at 6 am M-F for breakfast. Today’s special was open faced meatloaf sandwich. I’ll have to try that one someday.

Great food and really friendly owners/staff. A great addition to Escalon that is worthy of joining the ranks of Escalon favorites such as D’boni’s and Hula’s.

First of all we are total foodies. We have lived around the world and our palettes are fairly nurtured. Go to this little spot and enjoy homemade everything. It is a day trip from the city, enjoy the countryside. These people use fresh everything. If you want a real hamburger like my grandmother made it’s here. The pork is full of flavor and tender. I am going to contact Food an Wine Magazine to let them know about this jewel. Our server, Goldie let us know that she was the first Goldie, before the movie star. Wish that I lived here, I would, be a regular. My local family is definitely going to become part of this family. Thank you all. Jane, James and Evelyn.

Can’t help but to love this place… They’re stuck with me. I came in there for some food, got fed and made some friends… The staff is all family, and so much fun. I ordered a hamburger, watched them make it(everything here is fresh and made by them) and they weren’t shy with portions at all. I ordered the potato salad as my side, and it was great… Oh, and even though I was full, I still sampled the clam chowder, it was terrific! After really reading the menu there’s quite a few things I’d like to try! They also make pre-packaged meals ready to go for RVer’s and people that want to come in and just pick something up… I almost forgot, they have deserts… amazing smelling pies and gift cards! 5 Minutes from Oakdale, plenty of parking, and a safe clean place to eat great food with great people. Thank you guys again for taking care of me today — The burger and potato salad were amazing!

They know what they’re doing at Phat Hogs! Went with the wife for lunch and we were very impressed with both the food and service. I got the Inferno which is a pulled pork sandwich with nacho cheese, jalapeño, and bbq sauce. It was messy and absolutely delicious. She got the ribs and they were fall of the bone amazing. The sides were pretty good as well. I do wish they would use dishes and silverware instead of all that styrofoam and plastic but other than that it was a very pleasant experience. We’re definitely going back.

Came here on my way to pinecrest and was craving some good BBQ. Mary Beth’s is a small mom and pop BBQ shop that is fairly new. They have excellent brisket, great tri tip, fantastic sauce, and amazing customer service! My wife had the tri tip special sand which while I had the brisket sandwich with coleslaw. We both love our sandwiches and can’t wait to come back and try the other items. I actually prefer /recommend this over beef palace.

Once again another wonderful dining experience. The service is so friendly here and the food is fantastic. Large portions abound here and they’ve added cornbread. Ribs and pulled pork so tender and tasty. Their bbq sauce is superb. The new location is easy to find.

Amazing ribs, and delicious BBQ. Some of the nicest people ever. They were super patient with our slow ordering, because we were not sure what we wanted(first time there). Will definitely be making the drive out here again for some delicious BBQ. Massive portions, and the price is right.

We are super pleased to have a New BBQ spot in town! This is a super cozy Mom and Pop restaurant with a country feel to it with great service! Food is awesome homemade all the way from the Salads to there Burgers you feel like your eating at home. They have different specials every night so be sure to ask what the special of the day is. This place has Great Burgers! This was our first visit and we can’t wait to come back to try something new!

It’s wonderful to see Phat Hogs BBQ and Grill open again! Oakdale lost its premium barbecue restaurant, now Escalon’s gain. Don’t be confused: the restaurant is a fusion of Mary Beth’s deli and pie shop and Phat a Hogs BBQ. The other piece of good news: it’s the same staff and owners as the former Oakdale restaurant. Located on CA Highway 120 at Seidner Road, located ¼ of the way between Escalon and Oakdale on CA Highway 120, it’s a smaller but much nicer facility that will hopefully be a busy location, located right on a major state highway, going right to the gateway of Yosemite National Park. We came here the first evening of operation, not the Grand Opening, but we were very pleasantly surprised by all the progress they’ve made in just four weeks of preparation and remodeling: it’s nothing short of a miracle(the building had sat vacant for almost a year) and everything looks brand-new. The food is just as great, but a few dishes(like the CinnaBon) are gone: thank you, California. Try the Monkey Bread pull-apart: it’s loaded with caramel and cinnamon. Think barbecue and deli sandwiches, and you have the format. Trust me: the barbecue meats are just as good as the former Oakdale location. I had ribs(yum!); my bride had barbecue chicken breast. The ribs literally fell off the bones! The portions were so big, my wife couldn’t finish but half of her chicken breast. I had the cornbread(excellent) with chili sides; my bride, barbecue beans and potato salad. The prices are excellent, as is the food. Customer service is superb.
