Ordered delivery from this place via GrubHub and they were unable to get in contact with the restaurant. Apparently they ignored multiple phone calls and emails to their«online delivery system» over the course of about a half hour. Would’ve loved to try it, but I have to say steer clear of the delivery option, as this caused a lot of frustration, lost time, and empty bellies! For their part, GrubHub immediately notified me and refunded as well as gave me a gift card, so great customer service on their part.

My fiancée and I tried this place tonight, knowing that Wally’s down the road would be packed and the crazy crowd from the Bank Club Bar would be at it again — it did not disappoint, at all. It has a great, clean atmosphere, too, which is great for a change. In fact, combined with the great selection of beer, Uptown Café’s food(we had Gyros and Shawarma) is completely on par, if not slightly better. The wait staff was also very nice and very attentive. Beers are $ 5($ 3 for PBR) and nearly everything on the menu was less than $ 10. If you’re looking for parking — there’s plenty on 45th, which intersects with San Pablo. We’ll definitely be coming back again — and this might just turn into our usual drinking and eating out spot.

Ok, went back and ordered Shrimp Korma. MMMMM … the food is good, but once again I cannot say enough about the courteous, warm, and fast service here. It’s a winning combo — good food and good service = win/win!!!

Had lunch here today and confirmed that Ms. Wally is not affiliated in any way with Uptown. The host /waittress said one of the cooks used to work for Ms. Wally and encouraged me to try one of the Mediteranean items so I ordered the Falafel Wrap lunch special(+ fries & soft drink, $ 7.95) which is just $ 1 more than the Falafel Wrap ala carte. Cup of lentil soup is provided to all diners. It was delicous and had a spicy kick like Ms Wally’s, but a little thinner broth and some rice. The wrap comes sliced in half with fries dusted with a little black pepper and a small container of ketchup(see pic). The falafel was really dense and a little bland. The really dark green color made me think too much parsley and not enough beans. The veggies and tahini were nice, but the flatbread was also a bit tough to chew through. I like my fries done crisper than these and they were badly in need of some salt which was easily remedied. I also got some chai on this chilly wet day and they let me have it as my «soft drink» which was nice and surprised me when I got the bill. I probably will come back to try some of the Indian items, but the falafel didn’t impress.

The food here is OK. If you are familiar with Ms. Wally’s, which used to be here, they have kept the menu items. But the food is not the same. They have added Indian items to the menu, to keep it new. But if you are expecting the same Ms. Wally quality food, you will be disappointed. My partner and I shared the lamb burger and the chicken curry plate. The lentil soup that was served was thin in taste(if you are a Ms. Wally’s customer). Not bad, but don’t expect the same taste. The lamb burger wasn’t anything like Ms. Wally’s burger. The patty was smaller and it tasted almost like regular beef burger. The chicken curry was okay, spicy as how I ordered it. I think this place would shine as an Indian restaurant. I think if they transition the menu and focus more on the Indian food, this place would do good.

This place is ok. I might sound a little harsh because I’m comparing the food to Ms. Wally’s Café which was in this spot before they were forced out. The lentil soup was ok(I prefer Wally’s or Ms. Wally’s one though). I had a lamb burger with fries, my friend had the chicken curry, which was lovely. I think if I’m in the mood for Indian and don’t want to travel far from Emeryville for it, I’d go here. For Mediteranean food, I’d still go to Wally’s which is a few blocks away, or Ms. Wally’s when she decides to reopen again at a new location.

This was such a great experience! We came from farther in the East Bay to meet friends from the city. It was a great central meeting spot for us and we all really enjoyed our meals. At first, we had a hard time finding the place, so i called and the owner came outside to help flag us down. The kindness continued through being prompt with our orders, good drinks, suggestions on what to try, and quite a few complimentary dishes like lentil soup, baklava, and a spicy dish just to give a spice lover a taste. The food was so great. This restaurant had some of the best naan bread ever. We had a good variety and everything was great quality and flavor. Uptown Café café would be good for a date, big groups, and families. I wish it were closer to me but we’ll still go back!

I was invited by a friend to have dinner at this restaurant and I enjoyed the atmosphere and food. The service was very personalized by the owners and the help with ordering was outstanding. I had a lamb Kabob that was cooked and seasoned to my liking. The rice and salad were very good. I found the meal to be fairly priced and a good value for the money. I recommend that you try them out for lunch or dinner.

Me and my wife had dinner there Friday night and what can I say. No exaggeration the lentil soup is the best you’ll find anywhere ! and it’s complimentary, they also brought out a complimentary order of the wings which were exquisite and unlike most wings served everywhere else not greasy at all and very spicy. We both had the chicken shwarma, which was superb, moist not dry and very tasty served over a bed of what I believe is rice pilaf. Very rare is the business that welcomes you into there establishment like these folks do. The husband and wife team that run this place have made the restaurant the most hospitable place I have been to in years. It was near closing time and they hung out and talked with me and my wife for what seemed like an hour. Very pleasant and personable people. This place was called Ms Wally’s café. It still has the same items on the menu with added indian dishes. Probably the only place in the Bay Area that serves both Mediterranean and Indian, whatever you order it’s sure to be healthy and tasty. I wish them much success. I will definitley be coming back. To add: they deliver and the food is Halal

Great service in a clean and quiet environment. The Indian cuisine was very good with tender meat and fresh vegetables in the entrees. The extra of lentil soup and baklava was a special treat.

I am so thrilled that the original owners(from Khana Khazana) have taken back this space, and I believe they have made better than it was before. We ate there on Friday night and the Chicken Tikka Masala tasted as good as I remembered. There is now a second, much warmer room with a gently lit bar, a wide selection of beer on tap, and a comfy sitting area if you want to see a game. The Indian menu is not as expansive as it was before, but now there is a Mediterranean option with shawarma, falafel etc. that’s nice if your friends(or your kids) aren’t into Indian. Tandoori is not on the menu right now, but they said if business picks up they’ll look into bringing it back. As it is, I’m just happy to have my neighborhood Indian restaurant back, mango lassi, rice pudding and all.

We had lunch there today and I must say that the people working there are very friendly and the service was excellent. In addition, the place is very clean and nicely laid out. A nice selection of food featuring American, Mediterranean and Indian cuisine. The lentil soup that came with the meal was delicious as was the chicken tikka masala platter I ordered. Definitely going back to try the other items on the menu.

Diverse menu including Indian, Mediterranean, and American food, in a clean colorful setting, including a full bar. For my first visit, I ordered chicken tikka masala, which is my «test» dish. The flavor was very good, and the meat was good quality. My lunch included lentil soup, rice, naan, and baklava, all of which were tasty. I also ordered a chai tea, which was yummy. I’ll be back for sure!
