Amazing! Healthy and home cooked pasta and potato salad! Not salty and processed. I had a delicious priscioutto and provolone. So good. This place is a winner. Open on Saturdays. It will be our go to place for Saturday lunch.

I have ate subs all across Chicago, and have ate sandwiches all across the country as I travel for work. The Alpine sub is hands down the best in the country for a sub sandwich. I have been eating here for 30 years! I go out of my way to look for a sandwich that can at least rival it. If you are comparing apples to apples, meaning an Italian sub vs Alpines Italian I have yet to try one better!

Sandwich was really good here, but the customer service is what separates this place from other sub shops. Friendly and pleasant. Will return when I’m near by.

I’ve worked here for a year and a half before and I could tell all of you they have such a passion for their food prep and quality service, friendly and hilarious staff. Great people & great food. I recommend corn + roast beef with mushrooms and hot giardineria <O

I’ve been looking for a good Italian sub ever since one from a differnt very popular family deli fell kind of flat. So glad I remembered Bari when I headed out to Melrose to visit my friend. Her family swears by this place and with the high Unilocal ratings, my expectations were high. The Italian sub(called the Alpine here) did not disappoint. I like that the choices are 6, 9 or 18 inch subs. The meats are all flavorful and who doesn’t love it when the meat to bread ratio is perfect or else leans toward a higher meat side. The bread is excellent – fresh, mildly crusty that bites into a nice soft chew. The lettuce and tomato were also very fresh and again, a perfect ratio to the rest of the sandwich. i would have preferred a touch more of their vinegar/oil house blend but that’s me – I will ask for a little more next time. There’s a cooler of drinks/soda and two racks of different kinds of chips to choose from to round out your meal. I also spied a cooler of pastas and sauces for your future meals at home. I normally avoid taking North Avenue when I’m headed out to the ‘Burbs, but I am already planning a visit that way for another sub to take to-go for lunch. It was that good. Friendly service, reasonable prices, easy parking. What’s not to love.

I have had food here before, but last week was my first time coming there. The thing about the sandwiches here is the ingredients are so fresh. Which is why I’m guessing it was so crowded. And they don’t put mayo in sandwiches as well which is great for me cuz I HATE mayo.

So good. We’ve had their subs many times and just tried the pasta and potato salad. The best!

Subs are awesome. Staff is friendly except for one woman who behaved has if she didn’t want us there, so because of that we will not be returning. Food not worth her rudeness.

When I was pregnant with the twins this past year, I craved a bologna sandwich from Alpine like no one’s business. So, after they were born, I was all over sending the husband for one — and it was delicious! Something about the thin slice coupled with the perfect bread is just intoxicating.

Love it and so do my kids. Have tried to imitate at home for groups of kids and I consider it highest praise to hear«this is just like Alpine!» I’m not as much of a fan as others of fighting for space at the crowded counter so I usually call ahead and sail right through to the cash register. Love to support a local family business — and they make it easy to do so!

I had a turkey sub with everything plus mustard. Good sandwich, enjoyed watching them make it since it’s pretty much done right in front of you. I would recommend avoiding this place during lunch time unless you have time to spare.

Sliced to order, old fashion, Italian subs. The way it should be. Better than any subway, potbelly, jimmy johns, cousins, and I even dare to say your mothers– but, yeah. Your mother wishes she made subs like this. Don’t believe me? Great, fine, perfect actually. Never come here! Let this place be mine and the other locals forever. I wouldn’t mind that at all. But you’re reading reviews so that must mean you actually want a delicious sub, right? Well than I have fantastic news! There’s this little shop in Elmwood park called Alpine…

Best FRESH real sub sandwich around!!! Wayyyyyyy better than your chain sub shops! Bread is fresh, chewy and excellent. Small sub(6inch) is only around $ 3! Cash only if your spending under $ 10, otherwise credit cards accepter for over $ 10. Yum!

The Alpine! Best Italian Sub I have had anywhere. Not really sure what makes it so good, for being so simple. Maybe it’s the bread, maybe it’s the oil, maybe it’s the meat… Not sure but it darn tasty. I don’t live in Chicago anymore but when I am in town I make a point to head here. You can order over the phone and place a pick up, but it is more of the experience of ordering in person and picking out sides and other items to eat among the bustle of other locals doing the same. Don’t forget to grab a number when you walk in(the red ticket number is on the left when you walk through the door) Parking is a bit of pain especially if you are coming from the west. There is street parking and side parking, if you are coming from the east no worries… You can make the turn or find a spot on the street out front. From the west if you take the light at the BP and head left then a quick right down the alley you can park behind.

Alpine sandwiches are the best! If you are in the neighborhood please don’t go to jimmy johns, subway, or any other deli you were planning on going to because you will be disappointed! Alpine has the original alpine sub with Salami, provolone cheese, capicollo, ham, lettuce, tomato and their own oil& vinaigrette. I choose this sub every time! It’s my favorite. They have others To choose from which I am sure they are just as good! You can also order ahead a tray full Of these sandwiches for any party you are hosting! I know they have other food as well such as desserts, pastas, ect. Remember to bring cash they only accept credit cards for $ 10 and over! Alpine is delicious!!!

Alpine subs for Saturday lunch. It really doesn’t get better. Just get the Alpine, and trust them. Get giardiniera if you like it spicy, to me it kills the flavor of the sub. This sub is not the absolute best I’ve ever eaten, but the best for miles. We’ve a vegetarian in the family. They make a veggie sub that she says is really good. Eh, okay, I’ll stick to my Alpine.

Stopped by here for lunch with my bother while visiting a client in the area. Had a hankering for a nice Italian sub. You had me at Italian grocery. There really isn’t any parking in the area and if you get there around lunch time, there’s definitely a line. I went ahead and ordered my typical prosciutto, hot capicola and fresh mozzarella with lettuce and tomato. It was a very tasty sandwich at a very reasonable price. I would definitely go back if in the area. I don’t think I would make it a point to go there in particular, but nice to have a good sandwich option when in the area again. I didn’t try much else, just need a good sub: D The only thing I would say is that the bread could be a little crustier on the outside, but regardless a great sandwich. There isn’t much seating room, seats about 8 – 10 people in a little area to the side of the grocery store. I highly recommend it for a nice fresh Italian sub. Do it!

Personally, I’m not sure why my co-workers hype so much over alpine. Then again, I’m a vegetarian, so maybe it’s the lack of meat on my sub which is causing me to question why Alpine is so «delicious». They grab the vegetarian sub for me whenever they venture over to Alpine for lunch. Frankly, I think they should have more veggies. Just the general olives, peppers, lettuce, tomato, etc. on the sub itself. I absolutely feel overwhelmed by the amount of bread versus the amount of veggies on the sub. I feel like it’s carb city whenever I grab lunch from there. Otherwise, meh. It’s just okay. I enjoy it every once and a while. I’m guessing that their meat is a lot better than the veggie sub.
