A tiny 24-hour Colombian place. They have a lot of Colombian favorites, and both American and Colombian style breakfasts. While I’m not really impressed by the food here. The flan is overwhelmingly sweet, and the papa rellena is too greasy. The only good thing I had here is the corn flour empanada. Service is OK.

So glad i found this place! Its 24 hours, cheap and good! They are spanish so they dont speak english clearly but you will get by. Also it’s booths in there so its somewhat a spanish diner. They have good choices too! And i know i said this before but it’s cheap! I totally dont mind spending a lot for food as long as its good. But this place is both. Such a bargain!

Homemade Colombian-style food for the hungry just right at the corner of Broadway & Elmhurst Avenue! This is a traditional Colombian place that’s been around for years and years. Mainly known for their bakery goods such as their Buñuelos and Colombian coffee, but they also serve up some home cooked meats like the thick-cut bacon and sausages; which adds a classic touch to your dish. But my favorite thing about them is breakfast! La Gata has two menus for breakfast — American-style and Colombian-style. American menu has the usual sample breakfast dishes found in every diner like pancakes, french toast, and eggs. Colombian-style is more traditional with their love for rice and beans, meat, and arepas. Let’s just keep it simple here, opt in for Colombian-style! My comfort breakfast food here is the simple Calentado con Huevos Pericos; which is really just rice and beans with eggs. I got their thick-cut bacon as a side, and as a bacon lover, this was hard to resist. The flavor of the rice and beans were really good. I love the hints of spices hitting my taste buds here and there. They are quite generous with the beans, maybe a bit too much! Plantain that came with it was so hot, so soft and the charred ends made it so enjoyable to me. The thick-cut bacon was so tasty. I tend to love salty foods and this just hits my perfect mark. It tasted a bit more like a more fried and a crunchier version of the pork belly. Loved it! Overall, a very simple and alright breakfast choice if you’re not asking for too much. Breakfast foods come with coffee and a shot of orange juice between 6:00 am and 11:00 am. This makes it a great value! Order the Buñuelos on the side or to go. I love the crispiness of it on the inside and so fluffy on the inside. The hint of cheese taste smells and tastes so good! No visual sight of the cheese makes me feel less guilty and I think I can have second or even maybe a third one… Just a small warning: it is indeed a greasy bakery good but that is normal. Décor is not too much to be impressed about. It is super old looking and renovation is much needed.

I was passing by and decided to order two empanadas: chicken and beef. I ended up getting one dry chicken empanada and one potato empanada(if it had any meat inside I couldn’t tell). I will not be coming back.

I could have sworn this place opened up shop couple years ago because the location used to be some kind of Brazilian BBQ spot and when I saw the big glowing yellow signage I tried coming in but they were still not open then. Having the opportunity now, I wonder why the inside isn’t remodeled as I would have thought, the décor inside is a bit worn and very basic, I would have thought it would be nicer. The lady was very patient with me ordering, she was sweet like a grandma would be. She told me they only had white rice, I was looking for maybe another version like yellow rice or with beans. So white rice it was, I added beans on the side. Normally I would go with something on the regular side like roasted chicken but something about the décor, the lack of patrons, and kitchen/ordering area, I didn’t think it would have been that great so I ordered one of the soups, the blood sausage(Morcilla) and two stuffed meat potato ball(Papa Rellena) as a quick lunch. Both came with a vinegary sauce. The soup was average but still good. The rice was soft but could have been better. The blood sausage is something I guess someone needs acquainted taste to eat it because not that it was bad but it had a farm like rustic taste to it, not my thing, I had to wash it down with sauce and water. Other than that, the potato part of the Papa Rellena is mildly flavorful with a herb/soup taste. Though the stuffing was flavorful, I wished it had more stuffing, it lacked meat. It looked better than it tasted. With so many Colombian spots around, I think I’ll stick to the others. But if I were to come again, maybe I’ll try the chicharron but that didn’t look too crispy(it looked like it had been sitting there a while), the chicken or a skirt steak as for that is what you can really judge a Colombian restaurant by.

Me and my best friend went to get plain frozen yogurt on a weekday night. To sum it up, both of our yogurts were spoiled with rotten milk. If you want to catch a stomach virus or disease, please feel free to visit this place and buy their yogurt. :)

This place has been around in this area for a very long time. The employees aren’t very attentive, unfortunately. Sometimes they’re too busy talking to other people(not ones they’re serving) or doing other things that they just ignore you. However, the coffee here is great! So, thumbs up for their Colombian coffee.

I love bistec encebollado & theirs was delicious. My rice and beans were tasty too. I just wish the waitress’ perfume didn’t smell so strong! But I’ll be back for a bandeja paisa.

HORRIBLEHORRIBLE customer service. I will never EVER go here again. Came here on a monday morning in the hopes of getting breakfast and maybe even some lunch for me to take to work. When I arrived the two girls were busy one was on the phone and the other was making juice. After standing there for about 5 minutes they didn’t even acknowledge my presence by just telling me hey one second or ill be with you shortly. Instead they literally looked at me and kept doing other things instead of serving me. To me customer service is everything and for this i will never go here again.

Wonderful place for a coffee but the food isn’t always fresh! The staff are slow motion. I normally wait 8 minutes for a coffee No sugar. It’s a shame! The girls are short handed and when they get a rush they aren’t prepared to handle all the people quickly!

Pros –open 24⁄7 –deserts are the best, and coffee, juices too Cons — not kids friendly(no high chair or buster seat) — limited seating — seats and tables are old and all in holes( — lady who was taking our order spoke only spanish!!! Overall– I would still come here for deserts and coffee/juice. Their flan and banana pudding are my favorite so far, haven’t tried much, so I still have a long way to go))) Tip is not included so don’t forget to tip)

Horrible service and food! Staff was rude. Asked if she had lentils, replied rudely saying: Can’t you see what’s in front of you! Do not go here. Colombian food at its worst!

Very nice counter girl was very knowledgable about all the questions I asked about their unlabeled baked goods on display. Get the sweet corn patty and the salty cheese empanadas.

I don’t live far from here so my wife and I are regulars for the desayuno Gata Galosa. It eggs, calientado, and a decent piece of steak for $ 9. It’s enough for my wife and into share and feel satisfied… though sometimes we’ll get a nice piece of chicharron if we are really hungry! Can’t beat it for price and convenience. They do a solid bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll to boot.

Cant go wrong with the café con leche and empanadas, and they make a suprisingly good flan as well. And lets not forget the chiccharron… fried salted pork belly… its heaven After trying the other location on Roosevelt and 82nd… I have to say the food at this location is much… much better, and the staff is much friendlier.

24 hrs. 4.5 stars. decent spanish food. good pan de bano. some of their pastries are hit or miss(very sweet tres leches) but their guava cheese is amazing! my favorite thing there though is their cholado! top if off with ice cream for a dollar! the cholado comes with tons of fruit I like it best with just bananas and strawberries(no papayas or pineapple) my favorite ice cream to top is cookies and cream. trust me. cholados with ice cream are like latin taiwainese ices on steroids

Tiny hole in the wall Colombian restaurant in a neighborhood filled with Asian delights. But the food is superb from the blood sausage to the bacon. Everything is fantastic. Best thing on the menu, savory fried cheese balls, blood sausage and back bacon.

It seems similar in its offering to the JH/Elmhurst Colombian bakeries. However, I think it is worth highlighting that the buñuelos are tasty. Buñuelos are fried cheese bread balls, a lo-cal and heart healthy Colombian delicacy often consumed around Christmas. I went on a buñuelo hunt in the JH/Elmhurst area, and these buñuelos took the cake.

We’ve eaten breakfast here before. They have your typical diner menu. One night we stopped by because I had a sweet tooth craving. We bought once small container of rice pudding and one pastry filled with cheese and guava. When we got home I immediately ate the cheese and guava dessert. It was tasty. A nice combination of sweet(guava paste) and salty(cheese). The rice pudding was not sweet enough and the top layer was hard. I thought it was old so I just tossed it out to be on the safe side.
