Cool bar but terrible food and service. Ordered the nachos and at first I thought the chips were stale, nope it was just how the nachos were. The worst nachos I’ve ever eaten and not once did the bartenders ask how it was… So, the service… When we first walked in we thought it was going to be a great experience. Well we walked out saying we would never go back to this joint again. For some reason the bartenders decided to not ‘tend’ to us and took forever for drinks. Overall, terrible experience and will never return again.

Wings were really good. The potato skins were VERY dry. We asked for extra sour cream; were charged for it. I hate Nickel and diming situations, I hope that 50 cents keeps your restaurant afloat. The beer choices were rattled off way too quickly. A reference card would be helpful. Also my beer was not very cold.

The Hidden Still has decent food, service, and atmosphere. But I had an experience tonight that soured my opinion of this establishment and how they operate. I ordered a Cobb Salad that included chicken and I ordered additional shrimp for $ 6. The salad was excellent and very large. I ordered herb vinaigrette dressing on the side and the agreement with the bartender when I ordered was that if I didn’t like it I could order something different. When the salad arrived, the dressing quantity was far less than what I expected. It was one of those tiny cups that you might find at Moe’s for your salsa, but I would venture to guess that it was the smallest cup of that type, perhaps 1 Oz. And it was not even close to full. Certainly not enough for a giant salad. I tasted the dressing and it was mostly oil. So I asked the bartender to bring me a second cup of dressing and some red wine vinegar, which he accommodated. When the check came, they charged me 50 cents extra for the dressing. Obviously, 50 cents will not make me or break me. It is the principle and nickel and diming without any real willingness to make me happy after complaining.

Stopped in for a bite to eat, down from Massachusetts for wicked big meet. Service is great was greeted right away and had drink samples and food all within about 15 minutes of sitting down. Good amount of draft beer and plenty of moonshine to try including a few house made flavors. Food is excellent and portions are generous. Would definitely come back.

Yummy pub fare, according to what a saw. I went with a large party and there were salads, wings, burgers, etc on my table. My meal was a little bland,(Shrimp and grits) but that was because I asked them to hold the sausage.(pescetarian) The waitress did warn me that that sausage adds a lot of flavor, so I cannot really fault them. Perhaps they could have added some butter and/or spices to add flavor in substitution. I would have enjoyed the dinning experience it a little more if the restaurant had more atmosphere. The room was cold and boring. When we left I understood why. It turns into a younger crowd local bar, bouncer at the door and all. If I go back, I will try their out door seating and know what to expect.

I love the atmosphere and beer much more than the food… we haven’t really had anything to eat here that has blown us away so we usually just come after dinner and get some drinks and maybe chicken wings later! They have a great tap selection of local beers. They are usually packed on weekend nights so it might take a second to get your drinks but the bar staff are always really nice and upbeat! They typically have a younger crowd than you may expect, which we appreciated.

The moonshine margaritas are amazing!!! And the appetizer’s were delicious. We got the bourbon fries, the pretzel bites, and the nachos. We’ve been back twice and it was as good as the first time! I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

Popped in on a Saturday night to grab a drink with friends. We ordered the Jamaican jerk and garlic pepper tots for the table and both were excellent. We were however left wanting for a sauce other than ketchup to dip them in. We also ordered the corn fritters, which had potential, but they were pretty greasy and the corn kernels inside were chewy and kind of weird. Not the fluffy fritters we were really expecting, but I will say that the maple syrup in a solid dipping sauce for them. I ordered the bourbon honey lemonade and it was pretty stellar. Nice strong bourbon taste with hints of honey in the lemonade. I’d definitely orders this again, especially on a warm patio night. Karaōke was happening during our visit, and it was totally fine. Not the best, and not the worst. Volume was a tad loud even though we were at the farthest corner from it, so just know it’s not a place to hang and converse if you’re looking to catch up with friends. I’d like to try the Hidden Still again for their patio experience which I hear is a much more fun atmosphere, but I can’t say I’d suggest it as a place to hang out inside again.

The bar was a little quiet when we stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. We were able to get seats directly at the bar and were quickly asked our drink order. WC had a beer(not sure of the first one) and I had a moonshine cocktail. Elise, our bartender was able to suggest a great option for me to try the Onyx Moonshine without a lot of sugar — she muddled some oranges, poured the liquor and mixed with club soda. It was very tasty. We split wings(chipotle and buffalo-horseradish) and the stuffed mushrooms. The mushrooms very good; they were stuffed with bleu cheese and wrapped in bacon. The wings weren’t the meatiest I have ever had but the buffalo-horseradish was amazing! I was liking the chipotle at first(had a good burn) but the seasoning lacked salt and after eating most of them(too hot for WC) I was not loving it. WC ordered another couple beers(Flying Jenny) and I stuck to my original order. I had the grilled chicken Caesar salad and WC had the fried mac & cheese which basically is a fried cheese omelet with noodles inside. Interesting concept — good drunk food, I would definitely go there again and try some other wing flavors and different big plate meals. Besides the food being tempting, Elise was a wonderful host — she covered the bar almost completely alone all while maintaining a cheerful and pleasant attitude. She rocked!

Looking at the reviews this place came across as pub fare and bar food. The menu definitely doesn’t take itself too seriously, but this is some seriously good food! I had the shrimp po’boy and that’s not something I would normally order east of the Mason Dixon line, but every dish that went by us while we were waiting for our table just looked great! …and it was super tasty! I’m ahead of myself though. The place is tiny, they don’t have a great spot for folks who are waiting for a table to stand, so best to try and just get a spot at the bar. Our party of four tried 3 different appetizers that were all YUM: pulled pork won-tons, corn fritters, and buffalo horseradish wings and all enjoyed our meals. The bonus was the moonshine! Each person can order a single flight of 4 to try. Between 3 of us we were able to order 12 of the 14 available moonshines and we shared them in order to get at least a sip of all the flavors. Definitely coming back! I’ve still got to try the grilled mac-n-cheese(too bad telling you all this place sucked wouldn’t keep you away *wink wink*) I completely forgot to mention the service in my first draft! I’m a tech geek and I totally loved the tablet the waitress had which made ordering everything seem super easy and definitely accurate, plus she was super pleasant and we never waited for anything.

I fall for the okie doke with chicken wings EVERYTIME I order them out! My take-out garlic parm ones were DRY, some overcooked and not seasoned at all. not even the skin(I nibbled it to see if that was the point – I’m not a fan of chicken skin at all). Not flavor at all! Not sure why don’t these places season(just a lil sea salt and pepper) the chicken rather than sprinkle parm or whatever on top. #Disappointed Fried mac n cheese – very good. Cake – good.tasted almost homemade. Bottom line: This was just okay for me. The wings were a huge fail for me. This place is hidden from me view for now.

Great beer selection although I wasn’t drinking. The corned beef sandwich was awesome and huge. Definitely left full. Would like to go back and try some of their specialty drinks.

Maybe coincidence maybe not. Had Shrimp Po Boy which I thought had great flavor. They didn’t have my drinks of choice so had water /coffee. All seemed fine…2 hours later had upset stomach and headache. This AM have been throwing up like crazy. That was only meal of the day besides shredded wheat with almond milk for breakfast and protein bar for lunch… coincidence??? Thought the service was excellent and establishment had great energy. Just skip the Shrimp Po Boy and Slaw

Went here two Saturday’s in a row and I can’t believe how good the food is for a «pub» type atmosphere. I would describe it as mostly a bar/pub with tables. There are definitely kids and families in there so don’t let that deter you. Both times I went were during lunch, however later in the evening may be a bit less welcoming as the bar and tables aren’t separate and some drunken banter may soil little juniors ears. I’ve tried the steak and cheese sandwich as well as the Cajun burger both were outstanding, made with high quality ingredients and the taste was perfect. The fries and wings are kind of so-so. But the sandwiches are worth return visits. This place is getting a spot in the regular rotation.

We had high hopes for this place since the menu looked good online but everything was underwhelming. Not bad per se, just meh. People must like it though because there was a line out the door when we arrived and when we left(Friday during happy hour). Or it just benefits from the lack of other viable options in the Ellington area. The soft pretzels were fresh and tasty and well baked but the beer cheese that came with them was closer to a soup and it didn’t taste like cheese because there was a lot of maple syrup or something mixed in. The sweetness overpowered all of the other potential flavors. The fish tacos weren’t offensive but they were the worst fish tacos I can remember ever eating. The corn tortillas were grilled or something that made them seem stiff and stale yet soggy at the same time from the excess pico de gallo juice. The fish itself was fine I guess. It wasn’t breaded too thickly but it didn’t have much flavor. The dish overall was somehow really bland despite all of the different ingredients(pico de gallo, some sort of aioli, guacamole, lime juice) that went into it. The potato skins were average. They aren’t the same type you normally get where they are like little boats. These were maybe just pieces of a potato sliced into 4 chunks and then fried and topped. They weren’t bad just average but the serving was a little small. Overall this place may still have more potential to be good. Maybe we just caught it on a bad night. It was busy and during happy hour but the servers were still friendly and attentive. The prices are reasonable and they have a passable beer and cocktail selection.

This was my first visit to The Hidden Still since they moved into this new location, I will say they did a beautiful job renovating this place, however my first experience for lunch here was a little disappointing and I guess the only thing I have to compare it to is my last visit down the street. Like I mentioned we came for lunch and as with most people who leave work for lunch a reasonable amount of time to get in, eat and get out is a must. The disappointment came after we waited for more than 25 minutes for our food to arrive after waiting more than 15 minutes to get our orders placed, even though we weren’t watching our watches on this visit it did seem a little ridiculous being there were only a few other customers in the restaurant. The food was excellent in regards to taste and presentation, but the service left a lot to be desired and I’m am sure in the future this will be a factor when we are deciding on where to have lunch, I don’t think this would of been a problem if this would of been happy hour or dinner service but for lunch service they will need to pick it up a little. I am sure we will try them again at some point but only when time isn’t a factor.
