Still Life Gallery

Darlyn Szczepanik, the custom framer at Still Life Gallery, gorgeously framed two items for me: a hard-​earned master’s degree diploma, and an art print. My husband and I were both WOWed by the gorgeous work she did. I’ve had items custom-​framed at other shops, but the work Darlyn did for me has impressed me the most. She has a great eye and is committed to quality. For example, one finished piece had a small speck of glass inside casting a shadow; Darlyn spotted it before I did and immediately fixed it.
In addition, Still Life Gallery offers a range of items from local artists; paintings, of course, but also unique jewelry. One of our favorite shops in Ellicott City and always a must-​visit!

Brought in an extremely old pencil drawings of my dad (1949). It was in terrible condition. I was very hesitant to have anyone work on this, but I wanted it preserved and framed. The framer explained all my options and helped me design the best matte and frame to enhance the drawing. I also was surprised at the pricing, which was more than fair for the amount of time it was going to take in order to properly restore my dad’s drawing. I wasn’t sure what to expect because the piece had quite a few tears and missing parts, but when I picked it up, I was shocked! You could tell it was old but looked as if it had been kept in the frame and glass from the beginning. It looks like it could last forever.

Been to Still Life Gallery a few times. Was looking for framing for a really large washi paper horizontal scroll and no one would even touch it. Still Life didn’t even flinch but took the time to lay out my piece and discuss, in detail, how we could frame it. The even helped me understand how the frame would be reinforced in the middle for strength.
They also have jewelry and cool stuff made from old watch parts. These things are so cool, I wish I could buy them all.
The owner is very helpful and doesn’t hesitate to answer my questions and offer helpful suggestions whenever I drop in.
I highly recommend this place.
