Mixed feelings. My first visit to restaurant, I ate inside, lovely setting, cozy, pretty. Nice wait staff. I ordered honey sesame chicken, and I enjoyed. I thought I found a new favorite restaurant. I went back 1 week later for carry out, ordered sweet & sour chicken. When I got home I was surprised how it was prepared. It appeared to be boneless chix breast, sliced, edges were crispy but not the sliced sides, they were white. Just wasn’t prepared in the manner I am used to & bit dry. I decided to give restaurant another try tonight, ordered carryout. Got honey sesame chicken. It looked yummy, had nice glazed crispy edges… chix was not tender, it was tough. I did not eat it. Disappointed.

Our favorite Chinese restaurant in Columbia. Tammy runs a tight ship and gets to know her customers personally. We always ALWAYS order house pan fried noodles, shrimp-stuffed eggplant(it comes in a luscious garlic black bean sauce), and a chow fan — sometimes wet to please my mom, sometimes dry which is mine & hubs’ preference. Other favorites include crispy chicken, braised bean curd, shrimp with Cantonese lobster sauce(not the egg wash kind of white sauce lobster sauce, the unctuous pork & black bean Cantonese style). Also salt and pepper squid.

Food was delicious and came out very fast. Ordered a duck dish that the waitress suggested and it was amazing. The only draw back was the price was kinda high. $ 13 for beef egg foo young is a bit much.

Consistently excellent food. We have been fans for the last 10 years. We moved from the Columbia area five years ago and still go back for food.

Ordered carry out one night because I was in the mood for Chinese. Staff was attentive But food was over priced and not good enough to finish eating. Won’t be back. It even looked like a piece of dog food found its way in my yellow curry dish!

We’ve eaten here several times. The food is decent for a local Chinese restaurant. The staff is friendly.

It’s a pretty cozy setting and the waiters were nice but the food wasn’t authentic especially Hui Guo Rou.

Moo Shi Pork: Came out tasting burnt. The burnt flavor permeated throughout the entire dish… no picking out burnt parts, there weren’t any. Just a overwhelming burnt flavor. I asked the waiter about this, he told me it should taste burnt. What a crock. Now my stomach hurts. Augh! Social Media: my revenge. ITIS A TERRIBLETHINGWHENYOUAREBEINGLIEDTO. Too bad. Used to be a favorite place.

We brought 20 people here for dinner on Sunday night at 7:00. I was nervous! The food and service was fantastic! We had a near perfect experience. Everything was hot and fresh and delicious. I could not have been happier. I love great Chinese food but hate bad or even marginal food. This experience was Spot On! Can’t wait to go back.

Consistently good chinese. I actually drive 15 – 20 mins to get here. Places around me are horribly inconsistent. Sometimes it’s better than others but it’s always decent. I’d recommend.

We had the Peking duck that was expertly deboned with plenty of pancakes and flavor. Service was attentive. Will come again.

The best Chinese takeout in the Ellicott City/Columbia area. We’ve tried so many different places but this one wins, hands down. Everything is fresh, the meat is great quality, and it doesn’t leave you with that gross feeling that you get from cheap Chinese food. I will say, it’s a little more pricy than any other takeout place I’ve been to, but you get what you pay for and it’s worth it!

Im a general tso man, and this place has what you are looking for. The place is very clean and most people get take out and then leave, but, sometimes you just want to eat their. For that type of place, this is a nice environment to just enjoy yourself, or sit outside in the plaza where you can enjoy the breeze(minus winter) and relax. They have very good lo mein which I’d recommend. The price is very reasonable for the portions.

Last week we wanted to get some Chinese food and decided to try out this place since they have a very good review. But we were very disappointed, maybe we had too much expectation because of all the reviews. We tried 3 different kinds of food at the first visit and asked them to make it spicy for the combo lo mein and chrispy chicken. They were both very bland, and a matter of fact, the chicken which was supposed to be spicy wasn’t spicy at all and was too sweet. Fried duck was crispy outside but kind of dry inside. It didnt have much flavor either, we even asked for some sort of sauce we were told that the duck was supposed to be eaten the way it is because it was made with original flavor. Oh well we didnt like it, a little less then average. The lo mein was average tasting. Well we decided to give them one more chance. We ordered fried rice, combo lo mein, and general tso chicken. When we ordered we asked them to make it extra extra spicy for lo mein and general tso. Fried rice was good, not excellent, but it was still above average. The lo mein was worst then first time, and general tso, which is supposed to be spicy, was extra sweet. If you like sweet Chinese food then this may be the one, because it seems like any type of food with some sort of sauce is sweet from what we got. Also if you like bland flavor, most of the food that we ordered without any sauce was bland. I think two tries is good enough for my family. I am going back to my original Chinese restaurant, even though this place is closer, i think i am done with this place. Unless I dont feel like driving a little more for the Chinese food.

Fort the price and the excellent food it is hard to find a better Chinese restaurant in Columbia. We have lived in this area for ten plus years. Hunan Legend was an early«find» for our family. We have been faithful customers since our first meal there. A few of our favorite dishes are Crispy Beef(I like to order it extra crispy) Szechuan bean curd, vegetable foo young, pad thai, kung pao beef, shrimp fried rice, won ton soup. When eating at the restaurant the service has always been excellent. We use it for eat in, take out, and free delivery.

This place is really good. It’s hard to choose between this restaurant and hunan manor. Both are really good options with totally different menus. I have tried many things here, from rice to chicken to seafood and it was all very good. This place also gives you almond cookies :) I love that.

Excellent! The food and service are just wonderful. My Crispy Beef is just spicy enough to make my lips burn, not in a bad way! I wish we lived closer.

Sorry for the two stars but that is noted as «I’ve experienced better.» And I have. The overall atmosphere of this restaurant and the presentation of the meals is fine. This place came on good recommendation by friends. The staff was friendly. But of the three entrees tasted, we all agreed that all were overly sweet even though two were noted as being ‘spicy’ on the menu. And that was disappointing. If I ever venture back, I’ll be sure to ask for a little more ‘heat’. It seemed they had a separate room for larger groups off the main dining room for someone looking for that.

Hunan Legend is really a hidden gem in Ellicott City! My family has been coming here for years(and we’re pretty pick about Chinese restaurants). Hunan Legend has a great mix between typical Americanized Chinese food(e.g. Kung Pao chicken, Beef and Broccoli) AND authentic Chinese food(fried pork cutlet, yu pian doufu bao. loosely translated. fish and tofu treasure?). Plus they have an awesome lunch special(soup, entrée, and rice for ~$ 10) I also love the fried noodles they give you for a free appetizer… but try not to get too full on it(my sister and I always make this mistake). The ladies who work at the front of the house look fierce but are really quick, know what they’re doing, and, as an added plus, know their customers! Hunan Legend is open on most holidays, but it’s also very very busy as a result. I remember trying to order a roast duck(which is also delicious btw!) for takeout on Thanksgiving and it was a pretty long wait. Not the most amazing/authentic Chinese food I’ve had in the area, BUT it’s pretty up there. Yummy food at a good value and convenient location for Ellicott City residents. I’ll definitely be back!
