I went to school at Davis & Elkins and return regularly for alumni events and baseball get togethers. I have always stayed at the Graceland Inn and conference center, not only because it is on campus, but to support the school. Staying in the Graceland Mansion is worth the price, the historical aspect and the view of the Town of Elkins cannot be topped. I do wish the school would bring the restaurant back. My friends and I always enjoyed eating there while we were in town and Chef Melanie Campbell makes delicious food. My review would have more stars but my recent stay in the conference center took away from the rating. I have stayed there numerous times and know it isn’t a Hilton but when we got to our room there was trash on the floor, as if it hadn’t been cleaned very thorough. Our air conditioner didn’t work that well either. A little upgrade or more attention to detail is needed on the conference center side. All in all we had a great trip and I will continue to stay when coming back to campus but it will be in Graceland. And as I just finished my review, I saw an article on Facebook that the school was re-opening the restaurant. Great decision D&E, can’t wait to come back to eat.

The inn is beautiful, the view spectacular. The staff was friendly. That being said, the meal was disappointing. They were sold out of three types of fresh fish. That took the waitress three trips to the kitchen to ascertain. I then ordered the crab cake, which, by the description on the menu, was the crab dip shaped into the form of a patty and fried. The portions were small, as well. Not nearly as spectacular as the view.

I’ve stayed at the Graceland Inn five times for work. Two stays were in the Inn and three in the Conference Center. I believe the Conference Center used to be a college dormitory. It’s been renovated and each room has its own bathroom. It’s basic accommodations, but it’s reasonably clean and comfortable. Staying in the Conference Center is on par with a Howard Johnsons or Red Roof Inn. There’s no continental breakfast or workout room, but it’s also quite inexpensive. The Inn is fairly nice but nothing too special. I’ve stayed in two of the rooms — one was quiet small and the other was unnecessarily large. The Inn is an old building so they needed to work with the space they had. The room prices for the Inn are significantly higher than the Conference Center. The added cost apparently pays for the décor, because the Inn offers no additional services/amenities over the Conference Center. Graceland has a restaurant, but it has limited hours and isn’t open every day. It has never been open during any of my stays, so I can’t comment on the food. One negative with the whole property is parking. There are several spots in front of the Inn, but not enough to accommodate all guests. There are also spots near the Conference Center, but it’s a gravel lot, up a steep hill, and the lot is cramped — you better drive a small vehicle!

We stayed 2 nights. The room was a nice suite but needed a little more attention. The BIG disappointment was that the dining room was not open Sunday night(nor the teeny tiny bar). It ‘s a problem because not much is open in Elkins on Sunday. period. And when you stay at a place as nice as this and pay $ 175 for your room you expect to be taken care of.

We stayed in one of the restored rooms in the beautifully outfitted Graceland mansion, erstwhile home of Sen. Henry Gassaway Davis and now part of Davis and Elkins College.(The«conference center» next door is more barebones.) The room had the original plumbing fixtures, so no shower, just a spacious clawfoot tub with a hand-spray. The room itself was a bit small. The other rooms in the Inn, like the Senator’s suite, are much more opulent, but the«Yellow Room» was clean and comfortable. Timber and railroad baron Senator Davis and his son-in-law Elkins practically ran the State of West Virginia from their hilltop aeries overlooking the town of Elkins. It was great sipping wine on the verandah, and looky-looing through the first floor rooms. The continental breakfast was good and plentiful. Apparently the kitchen is being reorganized and a new chef is on the way, so sadly the Inn is currently not open for dinner.(We did find El Gran Sabor – see separate review.) The Inn is staffed by very eager and friendly students from the Davis and Elkins College.

The Inn is a lovely, refurbished Victorian mansion that was the residence of Senator Davis and is now part of the Davis & Elkins College campus. Beautiful inside. Several different rooms in the mansion to stay in. I have stayed in two and soon a third. The Conference Center is a more basic brick building right next to the mansion. Sort of bare bones, clean and adequate. A restaurant is on site that I’m told has excellent food but I haven’t tried it yet. Maybe I will this weekend. The Continental Breakfast is in the mansion and is adequate. Fresh baked goods, fruit, boiled eggs, cereal, coffee, juice, etc. A good place to stay if you are visiting Davis & Elkins College or the town.
