Went here last night(Friday) and sat at the bar… Now, I’ve been too hundreds of different Sushi Bads/Restaurants and from the exterior of the building and the crowded tables, I was intrigued to see how good this place was. Heck, the pictures here on Unilocal are what drove me to walk over from my hotel. Now, I was given a menu and it seemed that this place was 420 friendly based on rolls such as the Zig Zag, 420Roll and TrainWreck. Man this place must be cool, wrong! I asked to change the Panko shrimp in the zig zag roll for yellowtail and I was told they couldn’t do that??? Ok. Just went with a yellowtail hand roll. The couple next to me tried to order a custom roll and that was an issue too? Don’t you make the sushi by hand? What’s the problem with adding what your customers ask for? That just rubbed me wrong, to top it off, the bartender who took the orders actually forgot to put them in! After waiting a good 45 minutes for the rolls all he offered was some free edamame! Yippy!!! The prices were average and so were the rolls/carpaccio I ordered. Atmosphere was good. Workers(especially for working the bar) were subpar! Arigato!

I’ve been to the other two Mikuni locations. One in Davis and the other one midtown. This one on bond works out for me cuz I only have a 30 minute break so when I went there my order was ready. The girl at the front Jun greeted me as soon as I came in and she was bagging up my food to go. My sake don which is slices of raw salmon was delicious and fresh. Sliced kinda thin though but it was still tasty. Also had a piece of grilled salmon with teriyake sauce. I was happy with that also. I will definitely come back soon.

The price ruins everything for me here. Great cut of tuna but be prepared to pay 30 dollars + per person

I have been here multiple times, I only come to this place for sushi, I never tried anything else, however, the sushi at this place is great, they can lack in customer service from time to time.

Located on Elk Grove Blvd east of 99 near the 24 hour Fitness. Restaurant is very clean and hip. It has a very fun atmosphere with tv screens throughout with various games being shown. The staff here are very friendly. It gets quite loud at times. They have a very extensive menu — lots of sushi rolls of any type(raw as well as non-raw). We ended up ordering: –Freaky Edamame: this is something we always order when we go because these are so good — very addicting –Sea Steak to share: this was so good and great flavor –Mikey Handroll and Zig Zap Shrimp Handroll: so much filling that my youngest was actually full off of only 2 handrolls! –Sushi Rolls: BMW, Peter 2, Train Wreck & Tommy Roll The service is always very good here. They are very attentive and can always provide suggestions on sushi if you get stuck and don’t know what to get. Love this place and so glad they are in Elk Grove!

We came here for lunch and had a good experience. You can choose to sit at a table or sushi bar. We decided on a table. The wait wasn’t too bad — just 5 minutes on a Friday. We ordered a Tan Tan Men Ramen(spicy broth with ground pork) and Chirashi Don. Both dishes were good. The spicy broth was just the right level of spicy-ness and we «drank» it up, that’s how good the broth was. Service was fine. Yes, we will return.

Love me some sushi! It’s always fresh at Mikuni and I think you get what you pay for. The only downside to this establishment in my opinion is that its always cold inside. I don’t think I’ve ever taken my jacket off. I also think there should be an extra door before entering because it gets pretty dang cold outside in the winter, and with the small lobby space, that cold air just comes right in for the people waiting to be seated. I’ve been here a number of times and the service is usually always good with attentive servers. Yes, I ask for hot water instead of ice water when its cold outside, and its brought to me nice and steamy. It can be frustrating to look at the menu prices, especially as everything has gone up over the years, but that’s the economy as well. I think the platters used to be $ 60 and are now $ 70. It will feed us four ladies but there are no leftovers, even if you add a small roll. Of course our visits here are more infrequent, but it is always a treat and I am always satisfied(except I only ever get chopsticks or a beer glass from the birthday wheel!).

Amazing selection of fresh sushi made right in front of your eyes. Mikunis has numerous seating options including seats at the bar where you can order directly from the chef and watch them make the sushi for you. They have a range of delicious appetizers including edamame(recommend the freaky edamame), calamari with jalapenos(good, but could pass), and flaming shrooms(delicious mushrooms with crab meat, jalapenos, and tempura mushrooms). The sushi is fresh, has a range of traditional combinations as well as some new rolls, and is some of the better sushi that I have had. Service was fantastic as the entire staff was attentive, friendly, and provided us with great service and recommendations. The prices were very reasonable and during our brief stay in California we are hoping to make at least another visit.

Pros 1) Large restaurant with plenty of seating 2) Bar seating for quick and easy service 3) Great happy hour specials 4) They give you prizes for your birthday!(Identification required) 5) Full bar 6) Great service Seaweed salad: typical, hard to mess this up Freaky Edamame: tasty! will reorder Puff Daddy: unimpressionable, will not reorder Judie Roll: just average, may reorder Kaizen Ribs: a waste of stomach space, will not reorder Iron Chef Roll: my favorite out of the 7 dishes! Will reorder Albacore Pepperfin: sliced too thick, will not reorder I’m deducting a star due to the food. I just wasn’t impressed with the quality and feel like I can get sushi like this any where.

Best sushi in NorCal. Went there at least 50 times. Best sushi hands down. I’ve had so many of their rolls that I can’t decide which to order anymore so I just have them make me a chefs special every time. Ask for Bryan. He takes pride in his work.

I eat at a Mikunis at least three times s week. The location has consistently been the worst by far. Tonight we ordered the Bbq tuna that was so over cooked it was hard to eat — It is one of my favorite dishes and I couldn’t eat it. Yuk. Dry and more dry. The Benjamin had not one jalapeño — not one. There was nothing in side but avocado and cream cheese — nothing like my Benjamin. I love Mikuni but wild NEVER recommend this location.

Mikuni’s sushi is always so good. This location is easy to miss. I drove by it and my GPS told me I arrived but I could not see where. It took me awhile to figure out where it was. The sign needs to be placed better so everyone can see it. It was about a 30 minute wait on a weekend, and I ordered the 2 for $ 45. I think it’s a pretty good deal, appetizer, course, 2 sushi dishes and dessert. I am a big fan of the BBQ albacore here. Delicious. I like their musolino pasta. It’s stir fried udon. It’s so good. They toss it in olive oil and garlic. The mushrooms and asparagus is good in there too. They put tasty shrimp as well. I had the zig zag roll, and it came in some pink rice paper, but it was really good. I really like it. Overall, I am a big fan of Mikunis. I would definitely go back. It is pricey, I have to admit but the food is better than most sushi places I knew of.

I want to like this restaurant more than I do, but I find this place a little overrated(*I know… don’t hate me!*). I unfortunately have experienced better sashimi and service in other sushi restaurants, even right here in Elk Grove. We ordered a large sushi/sashimi platter and felt it was overpriced. For $ 70, the sushi was pretty typical(California roll) and lacked flavor. The sashimi pieces were small cuts and didn’t taste fresh. I was impressed that they offered octopus sashimi, but it didn’t make up for the price. I would recommend this dish for a group of people who are new to sashimi and sushi in general. I also didn’t find the fried cheesecake dessert appetizing. The cheesecake tasted so mushy after being fried that it left a weird aftertaste. I wished they had a deep fried ice cream or custard dough instead. I also didn’t find the dish sweet enough either. After soaking my sushi in wasabi and soy sauce for flavor, I wished for a sweeter dessert. Overall, Mikuni’s is an ok spot to catch up with friends over sushi. It is a popular spot for this town, but it’s not winning my favorite-sushi-restaurant race.

This place is still a solid 4 stars in my book for their service and good sushi! Although it isn’t necessarily blowing my mind it definitely deserves the 4 stars. I come here frequently, it’s my go to for sushi. Unlike most sushi joints, they don’t focus so much on the sauces that they lose sight of the freshness of their fish. I refuse to give 4 stars to a place whose sushi doesn’t taste fresh. My biggest test is the chirashi dinner because no matter what, you can’t mask poor sushi with anything due to pure raw fish over sushi rice. These guys not only get the raw well but also have quite an array of sushi rolls with sauces and various wrappers from the usual seaweed to rice paper and other various wrappers to their maki rolls! I particularly like the Jerry roll! I love the garlicky edamame and have yet to find another sushi joint whose garlic edamame rivals this place. Freshness, savory sauces, light and tasty! This place is my go to when other restaurants disappoint as well!

Another amazing lunch at Mikunis in Elk Grove. I come here so often now and I’ve gotten to know some incredible chefs. Going omakase with Derek, Tim or Andy has always been incredible. New, exciting and artistic dishes and it’s so much fun to watch them get inspired and try new things. Today was with Derek who is so easy to talk to and gets my tastes. I threw him some hard challenges(I want squid, make me something with octopus, make me something with Amaebi that’s different etc) and he rose to every challenge, he also always remembers what I like and asks what I’m in the mood for. I love to be as general as possible and watch what he comes up with. If you are the sort of person who loves to eat at the sushi bar and build a relationship with your chef and order omakase and see what they come up with Derek, Tim and Andy are amazing at what they do and great company for an amazing meal.

Mikuni serves some great sushi. All of the ingredients in their sushi rolls tastes fresh and the sushi is well presented on a plate. I ordered the Benjamin Roll and the Fiesta Roll. I enjoyed every piece of both rolls. Benjamin Roll has eel, seared tuna on top, shrimp, crab, avocado, some sauce, and it’s topped off with some jalapenos for that extra kick. The Fiesta Roll consists of tuna, crab, shrimp, cucumbers, tuna, cilantro, and sauce. This roll tastes really refreshing. The ambiance is awesome and it seems like it’s very spacious. Very modern look to it but it does feel welcoming. As you walk in, the counter is right there with staff members. The lobby has some seating and tvs if you have to wait for a table. Mikuni has a full bar that has beer, wine, and mixed drinks. There are more tvs around the restaurant for viewing. Service was adequate enough to make the experience a good one. Took our order, brought out food, got refills on drinks, and got any other items if we needed it. Definitely will be back to try the other food items.

It’s amazing how Mikuni can take such a healthy and elegant culinary feat such as sushi and turn it to a heart attack. Add in the jäger bombs, and this place is definitely not for the faint of heart. The menu was littered with crab mix, cream cheese, panko shrimp, «sauce», and spicy tuna, all of which really shouldn’t be in high-quality sushi. Definitely avoid the Spicy Dream Sauces — they might turn into your worst nightmare. : Mel Roll: The one roll for purists who just actually want to taste the fish, which was actually very fresh and tender. Although, if you’re coming to Mikuni, you may as well let go of any prior notions of sushi and embrace the creations they’ve come up with. : Tommy Roll: Why would you pair soy bean wrapper, probably for people who don’t like seaweed, with the most heavy, calorie-filled sauces is beyond me. It felt like I was just taking bite-fulls of sauce and not much else. : James Dean Roll: A surprisingly decent roll with a good balance of crunchy, savory, and creamy. Note that the rolls are best shared amongst multiples of three people as they usually came with three or nine pieces. While eating at the sushi bar, I did catch a glimpse of the sushi chef making one of his specials, which he called the Canary(Cannery?) Roll — torched white tuna, panko shrimp, red tobiko, on top of a bed of garlic avocado topped with radish sprouts. Looked pretty delicious. Next time I’ll pay more attention to the specials. What could have been one of the best parts of Mikuni — all you can eat edamame — was spoiled by the saltiness of the edamame. I think it’s more customary to sprinkle edamame with coarse sea salt rather than boil it in overly salted water like they did in Mikuni. I really wanted to eat more of this, but it was just too salty to handle. The staff seemed to have really good relationships with many of the local regulars, and the staff was very cognizant of some milestone birthdays that were being celebrated. At the very least, it’s a reliable, friendly place to go when you’re looking to celebrate an occasion or eat sushi with a dazzling firework of colors and sauces.

When I think of mikunis. I think of celebrating birthday dinners in high school. It’s either Mikunis or BJ’s if you went to high school in Elk Grove lol ! You can always expect great service, quality ingredients, and yummy food here. If you’re down with that mediocre sushi then don’t come here because it’s far from it ! Today was my first time back since 4 years. It’s been a while but that’s because it’s not the cheapest and I no longer live in eg. Remember, you get what you pay for ! John, and joe over at the sushi bar were very entertaining and accommodating ! Shoutout to the flawless sushi chefs. You guys were great!

I really admire that Mikuni continues to pair quality Beer and Wine with top notch Sushi. I really like Sushi and I really like Beer = I really love the two together. Was there Saturday 2⁄14 for lunch. The lunch menu was full of great options. I’m not a fan of saki bombs and sriracha mayonaise rolls with cream cheese. I do enjoy Nigiri, Sashimi and a had roll or two. This fish here is always great quality and fresh. The ambiance is modern spacious and well laid out. As for the beers, I’m going to add a couple pictures of two tasty featured beers that both pair really well with Sushi. The Ninkasi is on tap while the Karl Strauss is available in bottles. Check out the happy hour menu with lots of tasty bites and the Ninkasi IPA is only $ 3.50!
