2 out of 4 meals were good, but that wasn’t enough to compensate for the bad food and experience. I find it very disappointing that the experience days after our visit to this restaurant could get any worse, but it has. I WILLATTEMPTTOADD A PHOTOSNAPSHOTOFOWNERSRESPONSETO A REVIEWFROMSOMEONEINMYPARTY! As a business owner, it is not professional or appropriate to insult any guest who is giving you an honest review of their experience. Here is my experience. We had early Valentines Day reservations at Medley and the atmosphere was lovely! Valentines Day is also my birthday and our evening seemed so promising. Even after the 5 – 10 minute reservation confusion with the host and hostess I was still looking forward to a great meal with our friends(who are no stranger to restaurants in the Taos area.) The service seemed a little slow based on restaurant occupancy. Our reservations were at 6pm and less than half of the tables were occupied. When our waiter finally greeted us, he was helpful to me with considering my cocktail choice, but very condescending towards my friend who simply asked about their wine special. Unfortunately his pompous attitude continued throughout our entire meal. My husband ordered the vegetable tamales and my girlfriend ordered mussels. They both enjoyed their meals. I ordered the Hangar steak(cooked medium) and my girlfriends husband ordered the hamburger(also cooked medium.) My steak arrived, it was very under cooked so we requested it be sent back. When it came back it was STILL undercooked. I ate 1 bite and didn’t touch my plate again. The waiter did not ask about my food or notice that my meal went untouched for the rest of our dinner. To make matters worse, the hamburger that my girlfriends husband ordered was RAW. Not rare, but RAW. When it was brought to our waiters attention he offered to replace the hamburger, which our friend politely refused. After another disappearing act and a small lecture on the dessert menu(on which items would«carry well» if we didn’t eat it there) we paid our bill and left. My birthday was not acknowledged by the restaurant. Nor were my service expectations. Although two members of my party were pleased with their meal, none of us were pleased with anything else. The owners response(that I’ll try to attach) was the icing on the cake to never recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I REALLLLLY wanted to like this place. We loved OBL and were hoping that some of the charm had carried over to the new owners. If it has, we couldn’t find it — at least not in the restaurant. First off, the reservation — i made reservations online for a party of 4, and included a note that we were celebrating a birthday. We arrived shortly before our reservation time, and after some consternation from the maitre’d, he proceeded to lead us to a table. As we followed him, he turned and said, «Party of 3, right?» The four of us looked at each other and said no. He immediately locks up the brakes and hurries us back to the lobby, where another employee(perhaps the manager?) questions what he is doing — apparently he was going to seat us at a two-top and just shove another chair in? Keep in mind that i made the reservations online, so there should be no confusion about party size. They then scurry to the hostess stand to find a place for us(meanwhile, we can see empty tables all over the place). We finally are seated about 5 minutes later. Another 5 minutes pass, and we are greeted by our waitperson, who proceeds to tell us that their drink special is a Spanish sparkling wine. When i ask what kind it is, I am condescendingly told that it is a Cava. Yes, I know that Spanish sparkling wine is called cava; I was referring to the label. Sigh. The food: we ordered calamari as an app, which was decent(several pieces were overcooked, but in their defense, it is hard to get it right). One of our dinner companions tried to order Jack Daniels and Coke, only to be told that the bar was out of JD(more on that later). The entrees: the birthday girl ordered skirt steak a la carte, cooked medium, but when it came out, the entire center was red. She asked to have it cooked longer, and when the waiter took it back, i could see the chef physically stomp around, glare, and shake his head in disgust from her request(one of the great things about our table, as the hostess pointed out, is that we had a great view of everything — including the kitchen). Needless to say, when it was brought back to the table, it was still red. This might have been tolerable(okay, so maybe the chef is a purist and doesn’t believe that beef should be served at anything beyond medium-rare — customers be damned), but then i saw my husband picking apart his hamburger and i was horrified. The entire center of the burger was RAWMEAT. Not pink, not red — COMPLETELYRAWTHROUGHOUT. And we’re talking ground meat — not prime rib — there was no excuse for this; its not like my husband had ordered raw kibbe at Ali Baba! I grab the waiter and ask him if he thinks that looks like it was cooked«medium» and he begrudgingly says no and offers to have cooked longer. My husband declines, saying he is no longer hungry. Meanwhile, no other comment from the waiter, no visit to the table from the manager. Nothing. The only thing the waiter says WHENHEBRINGSTHEBILL is, «I took the burger off your bill.» Wow. Just wow. Oh — on our way out, we stopped into the attached wine shop and had a delightful conversation with the man running the place — even bought two bottles of NM wine. But here’s the kicker — they carry Jack Daniels. I guess it was too much to ask the restaurant to buy a bottle from their own liquor store as a stopgap since they had a customer asking for it? Bottom line — if we wanted arrogant service, subpar food, and Gordon Ramsey-like behavior at that price, we can get it in Dallas any time. We don’t need to travel 600 miles to get it. I would recommend steering clear of this place until they get it together — go to Doc Martins or Lamberts for food and service worthy of the price.

My husband and I ate here for Valentine’s Day while visiting from out of town. We both loved it! I ordered the crab cakes and the Caesar salad and my husband ordered the clam chowder, the ribeye and green chile Mac and cheese. Everything tasted wonderful! To top it all off the service was great. The entire staff did a great job to help create a pleasant experience. We would definitely go back if we found ourself in Taos again!

Heard the burgers were great. Well, if you like it overpriced, ordered medium and it came out well done, on a burnt bun. This is New Mexico and no green chile on the side. Ranch for my overly salted fries. No, they don’t have that kind of condiment. Have fun with you gringo crowd, ain’t a place I think I’ll be back to.

Inconsistent experiences. Our group was there on opening night and everyone enjoyed their meals. Hubby and I were recommended Hanger Steak by the waiter. That and the roasted corn with real cheese were delicious. A 4.5 star night. A couple months later we returned with different friends and we recommended Medley. The Hanger steak was good but the corn had that cheap, dried, stale sprinkle cheese on it and tasted like it was thrown together with substandard ingredients. There were complaints from our friends on a few items too. A 2.5 star night. I would try it again if they lower their prices. The value just wasn’t there second time around.

We tried Medley tonight because with all the New Years crowd in town our usual favorite restaurants were packed! We didn’t have a reservation but were invited to sit in the bar. Décor was comfortable and different from the restaurant. We sat in front of the fireplace and were offered happy hour priced drinks. We had a delicious Cabernet for $ 4.00. I was torn because choices were varied and all sounded good. My husband ordered a ribeye steak($ 27.00), mushrooms, broccolini and a side of Mac and cheese(all ala carte) for us to try. His steak was delicious but not done medium well as ordered– it was bloody in the center. The Mac and cheese was a bit bland but good. I ordered grilled avacado salad with crab meat over arugula. It was delicious. I ordered tortilla soup after our waitress told me it was hearty. It was horribly bland. No beans, very little chicken and full of corn in a very watery base. I have eaten tortilla soup all over the country and this tasted like something was missing. For $ 9.00 it was a very small portion and really a disappointment! I know they were busy but I didn’t find the service superb– as many reviews stated– not bad but not very personal. There were quite a few local people in groups who all seemed to know each other and employees and they got the attention. We have eaten all over Taos for the past 20 years– and don’t mind paying for good food. This has a lot of potential but a bit pricey for quality.

Just dined at this new restaurant opened north of Taos on 150-Taos Ski Valley road. Wow! Really enjoyed this amazing restaurant in an by the chef/owner, Wilks. This is the best new dining experience in Taos. His menu is diverse featuring steak, sea food, poultry and other comfort food sensations. I had to try a lot of things, fortunately I had not eating all day. The tortilla soup is not like everyone else’s typical… it has local spices and made with a tasty broth with a New Mexican flair. The heirloom tomato appetizer was really tasty. I had to try the 8oz petite filet because he stated he made a good steak. «Good» steaks are usually found at Flemings, Mortons and other similar steak houses. However… he makes a really good steak! The French onion soup was amazing. We had great wine paired with our meal. Service was really good by our waiter, AJ… knows his food, wine and Taos Ski Valley. Don’t miss trying this new restaurant next time your in Taos… you’ll enjoy the whole night there. By the way, don’t skip on desert… the chefs wife is a pastry chef… desert was spectacular!

I’ve eaten here twice since moving to Taos and the food is amazing. Service is good, but not great, but the food more than makes up for any shortfalls in the server I had. The décor is beautiful as well. HIGHLY recommend Medley!

For the money it was a very good meal. Although it was a very quiet evening, the service was excellent, the dinner presentation was nice and the food was good. We had a nice selection of wines by the glass. Highly recommend this new restaurant!

Excellent food, very nice staff and as a new restaurant there were just a few glitches in the service department, but nothing major. I’m very excited to have the restaurant open again in Taos. The OBL was sorely missed.

My 14 year old son and I visited Medley last Saturday for dinner at the recommendation of the person who runs the Farmhouse bakery as a place to try with a picky eater. Unfortunately our waitress refused to ask the chef to make something off menu… Grilled cheese and bacon. My son settled on a sweet and smokey fried chicken with fries and milk but the chicken was neither. My sautéed vegetables platter was very good. Unfortunately while trying to enjoy dinner with my son the waitress came by and took issue with my son wanting more milk refills and had to tell me that«You know we don’t give free refills on milk». I’m spending over $ 50 and getting interrupted and hassled about milk refills? I was offended and amazed. I don’t think this restaurant sees families or teens and parents very often and perhaps that clientele is not welcome at this restaurant, Or perhaps It was just a clueless waitress. It’s too bad… I hope other restaurants in Taos would be willing to work with teens and other picky eaters and gain future customers in the process.

Absolutely delicious food, friendly staff, lovely atmosphere… but no high chairs? My fiancé and I brought his family here(including a ten month old) when they came to visit. They were here for two days and we heard Medley was making a good impression. Everyone enjoyed their food as much as they could whole having to chase the baby around our pass her from lap to lap. Not to mention the three other tables with families… kids ranging from infant to maybe 8 or so, also dealing with the same issue. Fix this major oversight and they’ll be worth visiting again.

This was our first visit to the new restaurant at this old El Prado location. We will definitely be back many times. The wait staff was wonderful and the totally revised interior was delightfully understated. Let me start with the wine shop. The previous restaurant at this site had a very excellent wine store. It remains, and one option is to select a bottle from the well-stocked supply and then have it served table-side for a $ 15 surcharge over the store price. The menu is varied and unique. I had their New Mexico shepherd’s pie, a unique blending of green chili stew and the Irish staple. My wife had the beautifully prepared salmon. We finished off with what will become their signature desert, the chocolate pudding cake. What a treat!

Food was delicious. We had the shrimp appetizer. Great presentation and really good spices complemented it. Sea Bass crispy on the outside, nicely done. But the dessert was the best. Mexican chocolate pudding. With a cream sauce poured over it. I should’ve ordered 2, one just for me!

We’ve always loved the Old Blinking Light and could not wait for the new restaurant on the property. I am delighted to say that«medley.» is excellent. Great food and drink with an attentive, friendly staff. We had the chicken tortilla soup, sweet and smokey chicken and the Boston Bibb salad. I hope the locals come and frequent this excellent new addition to the Taos dining scene.

I had the great pleasure of previewing the food at Medley. It was fabulous. I ordered the super greens salad, which was expertly prepared with just the right textures and flavors, followed by the sea bass. The sea bass was cooked to perfection with a delicate crust of pesto. It was wonderful. The service was top notch and don’t leave without ordering dessert! If you get there early, check out the newly refurbished bar area. It is stunning!
