Great price for a lot of delicious food choices! I go for lunch with the huge salad bar. You choose from lettuce and prepared salads, cottage cheese, sweet pink fluff, but also soup, potato wedges, more. All this, plus your meal, which I get smothered grilled chicken or fried chicken and baked potato and rolls. Diet Dr pepper is a plus. I only wish I had room for one of the desserts in the case(conveniently located in the front lobby). Many of the servers have been there for years. They are friendly, fast and experienced. Nicely remodeled a few years ago. The dining rooms are spacious.

I think the other reviewers are missing the appeal of this hometown favorite. I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad meal here. It’s not really gourmet dining, but it’s inexpensive and has speedy service, along with great food. I love eating in the Dining room for lunch with the fam, supper and drinks at the Brass Rail with friends then back to the café for a post bar late night breakfast.

Great food, and very reasonable prices! Spent more for awful lunch in DC than for this steak dinner! Service was fast and good.

We are on vacation and saw the restaurant when we got gas for the car. You order your meal and the salad bar and side are included. The salad bar was fresh and the food tasted great. The best part am was the friendly staff and customers. We were advised what was good by regulars. Would return when we pass back through. Emily was a great waitress. Pie is great.

The food was very substandard, asked for beef veg. soup and received potato soup that tasted like potatoes in wallpaper paste. The chicken fried steak sandwich was tasteless. Mushrooms were odd tasting in a mushroom, and onion omelet. Requested rye toast and got white. This restaurant disappointed on all counts.

Outstanding food! The catfish was delightful. The sweet potato toots were not so enjoyable. The French Silk pie is a must!

This restaurant has really delicious food. We travel all over the US for my husbands job and have eaten at many places. This one is at the top of the list! Excellent service too. It was packed on a Sunday morning and we waited maybe 10 min at the most to be seated.

Oh my goodness! I cannot say enough good things about this place. We are passing through on a road trip and decided to stop for some food. After reading the good reviews about this place we decided to stop here. It is obvious that it’s a popular spot, as the parking lot was packed. After a long day on the road we were looking for some comfort food at a local spot. Everyone was extremely polite and made us feel like we were a friend and not just a customer. The staff were very accommodating to us traveling with a seven month old. I’d highly recommend this place whether you’re a local or just passing through like us. The prices are excellent and the portions are just right. My sirloin tips were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. I am not a fan of dessert(I know I’m crazy right?) but I am a sucker for pie. They had so many different kinds. I keep it pretty basic… just some cherry for me. This was one of the best slices of cherry pie I have ever had. This will be a must stop on any future trips.

This place was a great find of mine while driving cross country. We stopped in for breakfast on a Thursday morning was was surprised how absolutely fantastic it was. Their biscuits and gravy are some of the best I’ve ever had. Biscuits are fluffy and made in house, along with a generous portion of sausage filled gravy. Service is very friendly. It’s almost like you are being served by a friend’s grandmother, because they will strike up a conversation and make sure you have every single thing you need. I went back once for lunch, which was good, but not great. I had grilled chicken, which was a bit flavorless. Another member of my party, however, ordered a Horseshoe Sandwich which was really good! I guess you just need to stick with classic midwestern dishes, and you will not be disappointed.

This review is for a lunch time visit on a Monday. I actually tried getting here on two other occasions however the parking lot has always been jammed. So today I purposely came here after the typical lunch rush and even then it had a fair share of customers. Being so close to the interstate and judging from the locations of the fellow Unilocalers who left reviews, this place is visited by many out of towners. However, from my experience today it certainly has plenty of local regulars too. I was surprised on how many people came in here and all of them knowing one another. The menu has a good range of American plates, a short list for appetizers, salad, then onto burgers, various sandwiches, including the horseshoe, chicken, steak and some wonderful pies to round it all off. The dinning areas were clean, although a bit crowded and if your sporting a wide waste, then the booths may be a tight fit too. The waitstaff was extremely friendly and they seem to accommodate to your requests. I was about to go with the Philly, but at the last moment I saw the weekday special and ordered the medallions, with a side salad, fries, and asked for a side of cheese sauce(what they use for the horseshoe). The salad came out quickly and all the ingredients were very fresh and very enjoyable. The fries appeared to be twice cooked, which I really like and gives that little extra crispiness on the outside yet tender on the inside. Dredging each fry through the cheese sauce was a nice touch. The medallions were cooked as ordered and to my pleasent surprise very tender and delicious. With the plate cleared of fries and meat, I swabbed up all the remaining juices with very nice dinner rolls. If that was not enough, I ordered the chocolate pie with whipped cream and I confess that did not last long as it was just divine. Perhaps the best news is that all this cost me 12 dollars and some change… a great deal in my book ! Granted, this place is nothing fancy but, it serves up some great food at very reasonable prices. The trick is getting a seat ! I’ll certainly be back here again.

It was my first time visit to Niemerg’s today. I had chicken livers and mashed potatoes and gravy and cottage cheese. Great service quick, accurate and great friendly waitress. My only issue was the brown gravy tasted like it was either to strong or burnt. Other then that great food.

Niemerg’s was right in front of my hotel. What luck that was. Food is very reasonable. Steaks are quite good for the price point. Salad & soup bar wonderful. Homemade pie excellent(I had the cherry). Service great. Next time I’m in the area I’ll be sure to stop by. The locals are real lucky to have this restaurant.

The food was delicious and super affordable. For $ 12 I got an amazing dinner, including 2 sides and a salad bar plus a piece of lemon meringue pie to take home for later! The service was implacable, so ask for Julie!!! Going back before my business trip ends!

Unbelievable food. This is such a great place. Lunch specials include soup and salad bar all for about $ 6. Home made desserts and whole pies to go. Bar is in the same building. You will not be disappointed.

Excellent value with a fresh salad bar that will fill you up no matter what you get for entrée. It’s not«amazing» food; just down-home, generous portions at a superior price.

Local favorite. The dining room is open during peak hours. The cost of the soup and salad bar is typically fifty cents cheaper than their special which comes with a side, rolls, and the soup and salad bar, so come hungry and get it all. The fried chicken is always the best choice. The food is good, freshly prepared and the rolls are better than Gramma’s. The salad bar has the staples you’d find at a local church potluck: macaroni salad, pasta salad, pea salad, broccoli salad aka sorority salad, fruit in jello and that mysterious fluffy salad made with Cool Whip and jello. They usually have 2 soups that are decent. It’s not fancy, it can get crazy busy but you will always be full when you leave. The pies are good and worth buying one for home. Lunch for 2 was $ 15 including tip.

The fried chicken is very good and reasonably priced. The whole restaurant gives off a «home-cooked meal» type of setting. The pies are definitely a staple, as well.
