So during my move-out weekend I decided to get a last beer in Edinburg, and realized that a new bar had finally opened off University. I usually frequented The Drunken Clam, which wasn’t bad at all, but I really enjoyed my visit at The Thirsty Bronc as well. The place itself is kind of spacious, and they have a decent amount of TVs on the walls. Towards the back there’s a decent amount of tables and I think there’s also a patio outside that I didn’t get to check out. Everything seemed to have a wood finish inside, which seemed to be like a very classic bar setup(like Cheers except with sports banners all over the place.) There wasn’t many people for a Friday night, and there was about 3 bartenders with about 3 servers as well. Not a huge selection on tap, but the usual was there. Although it was late on a Friday, I was a bit disappointed in the prices for a beer. I think it was about 4bucks for a Shiner. I was hoping for some«new kid on the block» hospitality, aka drink specials, but there wasn’t any being advertised. Service was friendly and the beers were cold though, so I couldn’t ask for too much more. Wish I could see this place grow, but I’m in Houston now, hopefully next time I visit The Burg it’ll still be there. It definitely seemed to be the classic«college bar» that UTPA was sorely lacking. How can you have a legit University and not have a bar with some sort of school pride across the street? …well, I guess welcome to the big leagues UTPA, and best of luck to The Thirsty Bronc.
