They where nice enough to allow us to check in early so that we could make our early downtown commitment. Surprised there was no elevator for such a large hotel. But everything else was great. Nice spacious room. Great to have an attached restaurant.

Fine. Inexpensive. If I needed to stay overnight in Eau Claire again, I’d probably stop here. My mom paid for the room(thanks, mom), but by peaking over her shoulder it looked like it was under $ 100 for one night. Nice! Service was friendlyish. There’s a sign that says they don’t recommend paying with credit or debt and to inquire as to why. We didn’t inquire and paid with a card. Whatever. The room was fine. Two full size beds with a bunch of fluffy pillows. Blankets and sheets appeared clean. TV with a good selection of channels, fridge, microwave, AC that was freezing to my liking. Shower was fine. Everything was fine. Hallway had a strange smell. Business computers were slow. Didn’t check out the pool. Oh well.

We arrived in the evening and as we were checking in inquired as to 2 beds. We were told they had some but it was on the second floor with no elevator and would be a long walk. After dragging 4 bags up a flight of stairs and walking past 64 rooms down a hall we got there. The air works sporadically, bathroom was gross with hair in the tub and the beds smelled funny at best. After discussing our issues with the manager we were told it was not an option to fix air as they were full. The pool was vile with dirty towels laying everywhere, a hot tub with no circulating water and is steamed filled and unpleasant at best. I’d opt for finding somewhere else.

On the road late at night, we needed a place to stay with our dog. Everything further south was booked thanks to some sort of crazy cranberry festival going on in Warrens(described by two locals as «A mess; 10,000 people invading a town of 200; and ‘go if you like walking a lot’,» but I digress). After two times around the block peering at addresses in the dark we figured out that the Holiday Inn listed in Unilocal had converted to a Clarion. No problem, the important thing was that they allowed dogs, albeit with a $ 15 fee according to the woman on the phone. But then they didn’t charge the fee after all; that was nice. The hotel is a sprawling rather ugly two-story 1960-ish affair. We were in the last room in the farthest wing from the desk, near an entrance off an empty parking lot and a grassy area. Perfect for Winston. The room was basic and comfortable, had a fridge and a good shower. A couple of cleaning issues — someone had really missed doing the carpet and there were blood spots on the duvet. This might have made it a two but any place that accepts pets without a charge gets points from me.
