Such a lovely, old-timey, theater in a charming part of Easton. We saw the Nutcracker last night and were so pleased with the experience.

Every performance I have been here for has been a wonderful experience. The tickets are always reasonably priced and the theater is absolutely a historic beauty!

I was here to see the Moscow Ballet production of the Nutcracker a few nights ago and I was very impressed by this theater — I can’t believe I’ve never been here before! They(apparently) just got a new curtain last year, and it looks awesome — as did the rest of the stage and the set. The bathrooms were conveniently located and clean; the seats were soft and non-creaky; and the entire place looked like a winter wonderland. Seriously. My only gripe is that I wish the seats were a little more staggered — the woman in front of me had a topknot and I was constantly moving to look around her — but I just have to keep reminding myself that not everyone remembers what it was like to be five feet tall.

This is a beautifully restored old theatre. It’s a fantastic venue to watch a show and they appear to bring in a variety of acts to cater to all demographics and entertainment styles.

No question that the State Theatre is a beautiful building. But the main problems with the group that runs it are two things: 1. Too many repeat acts and tribute bands. 2. The need to pay an annual fee just for early access to spend more money on tickets. Over the last few years that State has gone way down hill in it’s originality of what it books. Instead you get things like Late Night Catechism for the 400th time. That show has been beat to death in this area as it used to play for more than a week and now they can barely get a weekend out of it. Or the non-stop tribute bands with the Eagles, Elvis, Springsteen, etc. Try something original! While they have now booked acts like Darius Rucker and Bret Michaels there are still too many repeat acts like the Beach Boys coming back what seems like year after year. The idea of needing to pay more money just to become a «member» is insulting and stupid. No doubt this practice goes a long way in paying for the upkeep of the building and the staff’s salaries but it also just gives the well-to-do in the LV and NJ more chances to pay more for more access and it makes sure that the average joe will never be able to get a decent seat to any show unless that show is a clinker. In politics pay to play is illegal. In the world of concerts it’s an SOP. Stop the tribute bands and make the tickets a few dollars more expensive and do away with the«memberships» and just let people go after tickets on a first come, first serve basis. If people want to donate money to the theatre they will. There is no need to have a pay to play format.
