This little pizza place on Route 80 in East Haven has great soups and salads. The Salmon is awesome and the pizza is delicious. I have only been there for lunch, but the prices and portions are in-line with what you would expect. I highly recommend you give it a try.

This is mainly a review for John and Maria’s takeout service. I have never had a bad pizza from John and Maria’s. Every pie is always hot, has the perfect amount of grease, and has the perfect texture. It is by and large the finest pizza restaurant in East Haven. Their dining service is also excellent. The interior provides a warm atmosphere excellent for family gatherings.

I was recently invited to dine in and was looking forward to my visit. However, I was quickly disappointed when I arrived to a very noisy dining area and chaotic service. My waitress seemed very overwhelmed and distracted by other customers. When our meal was served it was odd. My small pizza was definitely quite burnt but my dates pizza was not. The waitress saw our concern but quickly went on to her other table. We were ignored for the rest of our time there and had to ask another employee for our bill. The food was just ok but not the place to go if you want to sit and relax and enjoy a nice meal. I wanted to like it but just couldn’t. I’ll go elsewhere next time.

First time here and probably should have tried the pizza first as most reviews rave about it but decided on entrees. We both ordered pasta dishes which come with bread and salad. Bread was pretty ordinary and salad was all iceberg. Had the vinaigrette dressing which was pretty good but couldn’t hide the sad lettuce. I got the fettuccine bolognese and my wife got the penne and broccoli. Plates were huge we each could have shared a plate. Broccoli appeared to be frozen, not fresh but tasted OK. Fettuccine was tasty but definitely not the best I ever had. Will give it another try but not soon

If you live in Foxon this is definitely the best pizza. It’s our go to for take out for sure. All the pizza is always tasty… and the spaghetti maria is yummy as well. Can’t really go wrong with anything here. Solid choice!

Best pizza in east haven hands down and will hold its own next to any pizza joint in new Haven. I love eggplant Maria sub.(Have to order light dressing) and amazing JM salad, that dressing is amazing. Don’t forget to try the Nutella cannolis.

A great family restaurant. Best known for their pizza, but the rest of their menu is good too. I’d recommend the native tomato pie when it’s in season and the chicken parm pizza or pepperoni. I wouldn’t rank this pizza far behind the big 3(or 4 if you count Grand) in New Haven, but since I live literally within 2 minutes drive you might say I’m biased. They can get very busy on Friday nights so be prepared. It’s like winning the lottery when you don’t get a busy signal on the phone. Sometimes I’ve dialed non-stop with 2 cell phones until I get through ;-) but it’s worth it! The staff is really friendly too. You can tell that Neil the owner works very hard and cares a lot about the business that his parents started 25 years ago. He’s a nice guy so if you live in the area you have to give them a try at least once.

This place is right around the corner from us, and we’ve eaten there 3 times since moving here a little over a month ago. I’ve had Pepe’s pizza as well, and I have to say, John and Maria’s is right up there with them. Delicious crispy crust, sloppy sauce, fresh mozz, if you’re a pizza person(and I am), you’ll love it here. The Margherita is excellent, as is the Mama Mia. My wife has also gotten some of the non-pizza dishes, and said they were excellent as well.

Food: The pizza here is amazing. I have ranked it the top pizza in my world for about 10 years straight. They have Foxon park soda. Their chicken dishes are amazing and the pasta is always perfect al dente texture. Service: The to-go counter has very smart and efficient girls working it. The waitresses are very sweet and attentive. Environment: Private, spacious, and quiet. Outdoor seating underneath tents. Very welcoming. Cost: They’re fairly priced and the food is worth every penny.

The pizza competition in Connecticut is fiercely competitive. New Haven is the epicenter where the three giants(we all know who they are) reign. Venture out of New Haven proper and there are several options. John & Maria’s is one of many and they are good but not great. I ordered my usual sausage pizza to properly compare to other pizzas in the area. Actually, this was a sausage and mushroom John’s Special, identical to the special pie they offer at Zuppardi’s in West Haven. I still like Zuppardi’s better but this was a good pie. Plenty of sausage and mushroom topping and the crust was an interesting blend of crispy and chewy. I thought that feature made it stand out the most. The fried calamari appetizer could use some work, however. For $ 9.99 the portion seemed a bit small and needed more breading. The accompanying side of marinara was very tasty. I don’t think I’ll go back for their pizza but I’m actually intrigued by the rest of their menu, which includes full Italian dinners, pasta and huge grinders. They have cavatelli and gnocchi on their pasta menu, which is not offered everywhere. The table next to me ordered the gnocchi and the portion was huge and served with salad and bread. So maybe the non-pizza menu is my best bet here. I’ll go back for the dinners and see what happens.

I really like this place. Delicious pizza, super friendly service, and great outdoor seating. Will definitely be back!
