Another restaurant that didn’t make it thru the winter… the location is empty now

I was pleasantly surprised, we went only because we had a gift card. But I would definitely consider going back. We went with children, which right off the bat is a challenge, but the staff made us feel very welcome. The menu was varied and since we were early there was a $ 24⁄2 course with a glass of wine special. To our eyes, the best items on the regular menu were on the price fixe menu, so it was a deal. I did look for a basic garden or house salad… but there wasn’t one on either menu. I think that was really my only complaint. Granted it was October, but we felt comfortable in our jeans even though it is a white table cloth restaurant and didn’t feel like it was a typical snotty hamptons restaurant, maybe a different story in August. Kudo’s to Sally and the Hostess for making us feel welcome, even with our active 3 year old.

«ROCK» SOLID Nice atmosphere though sitting outside was loud. Still nice. saturday night of Labor Day weekend and no prob getting a reservation, place was ½ empty. Good appetizers if not great. Ordered linguini in clam sauce and made a point of asking if they were fresh local clams. Was assured they were. As I’m working my way through a decent tasting dish, I noticed a group of clams stuck close together. As I worked them apart I notice 1 particular clam was still closed. Upon further inspection, I found this clam to be a rather large rock, 2″ x 2″, good for skimming on the water but not ideal for clam sauce. After pointing out this interesting discovery, the waiter checked with the chef and offerEd the dish complimentary. Since I had already ate most of it, I requested 2 free deserts instead(for the table of course) which they did. But still, a large rock should nnot get by the chef. If it was smaller, I easily could have swallowed it with pasta and sauce. Last, the service was terribly slow. ½ empty restaurant, plenty of service staff from what I could see, sat down at 7:15, didn’t get up to leave until 9:25 and not because we took our time. Everything was VERY slow. I won’t go back. I did joke with the waiter asking if they had Rocky Road ice cream available for desert.

GREATPLACE, GREATFOOD, GREATSERVICE, CHILDFRIENDLY We have been here lots of times since it opened, both with kids and adults only, on and off season, and have always had a wonderful meal. It’s stress free to make a reservation, which they usually honor with no wait. Outside tables are really nice, which is surprising given it’s right on Montauk Highway. Our kids love pasta with butter, burgers, chicken nuggets, and the wicky sticks and coloring menus. My favorite entrée is the Linguine with white clam sauce… made perfectly with olive oil, garlic, clams and parsley, nothing weird added like so many restaurants do. Fish entrees are all wonderful, as are the salads, and artichoke or fried shrimp appetizers. This place is pretty, but also low key and un-hamptons like, with big screen tvs at the bar, and casual dress code. The only negative I could say, which is also true about sister restaurant Cittonuova, is that the menu choices are limited, but everything is always delicious. Don’t confuse it with the name stealing«East Hampton Grill» which should be really embarrassed that they could not come up with a different name.

I went here last night with a friend and had a pretty good experience overall. The parking lot had about four or five cars(not a bad turn out for winter in the Hamptons), which all belonged to employees because when we went in we didn’t see anyone. No one… Except a few servers leaning on the bar looking bored to tears. The winters here are harsh for restaurants… When we were ushered to our seat, we noticed an elderly couple finishing up their meal. They were hidden by the dividers between the bar and eating area. That was a collective sigh of relief for both of us. I hate being the only person in a restaurant… The prix-fix menu seemed decent. I had never eaten here so I didn’t really know what to expect. The bread that arrived almost immediately was good. The service was exceptional(which it should have been since there was a 2:1 ratio of servers to customers) and as the food arrived we realized that the $ 26 price tag was really worth it. The tomato-bread soup was really good. I’m not a huge soup guy so there it is. My lamb(a $ 6 upcharge, but come on, it’s lammmmmb) was cooked perfectly and came with a whole roasted garlic head which I am still tasting as I write this. There was a cumin butter/aoli scoop on the side which I assume was for the lamb. It didn’t seem to go with the seasonings already on the lamb, so I left it alone. The fried onions I got as a side(like thin onion rings) were delicious, and apparently an employee favorite. Not too greasy and fairly crisp, they were a great addition to the meal. My friend’s Chicken was cooked nicely and served with basic roasted potatoes. Nothing too special, but it doesn’t really claim to be on the menu. It was a half chicken, which is a good amount of food for the prix-fix price. So these were the pros. Now the cons: A) Although cooked perfectly, most of the food was really salty… We could tell that everything would have been perfect if they had added about half the amount of salt, It was disappointing, but not disappointing enough to send back or stop eating. B) There was a smell of burning rubber or something in the dining area. C) I hate dining in places where you can see the huge TVs at the bar from every seat in the dining room, and they are brighter than any other lighting in the place. I GOTO A RESTAURANTTOGETAWAYFROMTHE !?@!?#?$ TV… D) The roasted brussells sprout side was good too, but seemed like it had been cooked earlier and re-heated. I suppose there may have been more cons had this been a busy seasonal weekend(see other reviews). The servers were all very nice and very talkative. The elderly couple stopped and chatted with us for a few minutes as we left, telling us to enjoy having the restaurant to ourselves. It was a different way of looking at it, which was nice. If the food were less salty and no rubber smell, it might be four stars…

Oh, the Hamptons… I ordered the heirloom tomato gazpacho as an appetizer(a special) and it was fantastic. I had the boring chicken because I don’t do red meat and I really have to be in the mood for fish. Good chicken — flavorful, perfectly juicy, yum yum. Sides are a la carte. The mac n’ cheese was good; I like when it’s made with little elbow pasta and it was perfectly cheesy. Donuts for dessert — top notch. It’s not a very intimate place/vibe — the floors are stark and the furniture a tad industrial looking or cold. I think I was expecting something a little cozier so to me it’s inconsistent with the whole«comfort food» thing they’ve got going on. Portions were ample… and now I find myself craving a donut.

Our dining experience was so bad, it was comic — until we got the bill! Service was awful! Everything we asked for — literally everything, including less air conditioning on a cold & rainy night — we were told we couldn’t have because«the kitchen won’t allow it.» The dishes are all a la carte — meaning a lamb chop dish is only two lamb chops, and all of our side dishes arrived when we were literally finishing our entrees. The waiter seemed quite taken aback when I said we didn’t want to pay for them, given that we hadn’t even eaten a bite! Worst of all, the food that we did eat was mediocre. All told: uncomfortable, ungracious, and expensive — definitely a no return.

My wife and I stopped here for cocktails to check out the«new» restaurant in what had been Wei Fun. We ordered two drinks and were not, unfortunately, surprised that they were $ 12 each. We also asked to look at the menu and I almost fell out of my chair at he prices! The cheapest entre was $ 18 for mussels and the most expensive was $ 35 for steak. We decided right then that we would NOT be having dinner there then or any time soon.
