With half the businesses closed in RI on Mondays on a regular basis– maybe in honor of «The Worst Day of the Week», I found in my frustration a consignment shop that was open Mondays. Having moved recently I went inside to get some furniture ideas and check out their consignment policies for items I needed to sell. I was surprised at the size of the store, which appears smaller from the outside but was surprisingly large with a additional back room for displaying a neat assortment of good area rugs. Beyond was another room with ‘bits and pieces’ of disparate items… bed, bath, you name it. The main floor space is a really good assortment of antique and contemporary furniture and nicely lit with table lamps mainly, rather than the glare of fluorescent. A lot of traditionally-designed pieces of really good quality. not a lot of mid-century stuff but certainly no sign of the 1970’s stuff that another critic wrote about. OK, maybe I saw a Colonial –looking bar stool in back but that was about it. The art work and decorative items are of a better quality than what is generally out there. Some expensive pieces but I couldn’t argue with the prices based on relative scarcity of some pieces. I spoke with one of the owners(?), Joanne(very pleasant) about consignment policies. While the 50⁄50 split seems to be fairly common here, the contract was a more generous 4 months plus the shop is willing to extend a contract beyond that for certain circumstances, which could prove helpful since I travel sometimes for weeks at a time. Without being an expert on everything, I seriously couldn’t find anything to really fault. Maybe, some disorganization in the«Hodge Podge» room, as the owners called it!

Wow, so I write a review that had 3 stars, which is still ok and instead of the owner and or manager taking the feedback and making adjustments to be more successful, this is what we get: «Thanks for your thoughtful post but you should really get a degree in design so you can differentiate between the styles of furniture from decade to decade. You promise to do that and I promise to get a degree in nutrition so I can tell if you are a mere 40 pounds overweight or an unhealthy 75 pounds beyond your ideal weight. Thanks for your input though. Submit your writing skills resume with The New York Times; maybe you can get yourself a big, fat job there!» So, if you are into going to a place where responses come in the form of personal attacks, please knock yourself out. For someone like myself, I just cant support someone not interested in improving their position. So thank you Ben for sharing your business acumen.

It was ok– not a lot of stuff + some of it is SO over priced. You can find some stellar furniture pieces though. They have a back room that is for sure a yard sale happening… yet is still priced high. I expected it to be a discount room. Nope. I’m feelen’ a little meh about it + the person who worked there didn’t even acknowledge us. Oh well. We did see some little gems though but nothing too exciting. If you want to look around at a couple pretty things, this is your kinda place.
