Love me some Joe Van Gogh! Seems like the perfect place to be if one is looking for a pick-me-up. Since its located near the Bryan Center, right outside if the Duke store. The majority of their customers are students. The baristas seem to be super chill and knowledgeable. They have drinks for all kinds of weather! But if it’s a chilly day, definitely go ahead and order yourself a cup of hot chocolate. Mmhm, yummy. Definitely check this place out if you have tests and need something to give you a boost in studying and keeping yourself awake! Or if you just love coffee like me, haha.

The line was long but the drink was worth the wait. Vanilla latte was perfect. It was even topped with a heart, I should have taken a picture. The drink kept me warm all the way to the car.

4.5÷5 stars. If this venue was a bit larger to accommodate more customers, it would deserve 5 stars. Come here for the best coffee on campus. Very friendly baristas who are more than happy to help you select the tea or coffee that you’re in the mood for. Like most coffee shops, they offer light pastries including donut holes, as well as organic energy bars and some sodas. They used to have small tables for indoor seating, but have recently replaced those with a counter that runs along the window edge of the shop. I’m pretty fond of this new setup; it gives you a nice view of the outdoor BC plaza and it encourages you to enjoy your cup of joe while on your feet. Sitting too long is bad for you, you know! When space is available, I plug in my laptop and get some work done while sipping my coffee. Overall, it’s a great cozy coffee shop, but can get packed really quickly because of its size. While the baristas are very efficient at handling customers’ orders, I often just get my caffeine elsewhere so that I don’t have to wait between classes.

Lovely café next to the Duke Store. The baristas make wonderful lattes– with art! They sell cute/convenient little reusable mugs and try not to use cup sleeves if unnecessary which is great for the environment. The space is very limited though– there are no seats inside to sit on. This place is best for coffee on the go!

My go-to coffee place on campus. They know exactly what they’re doing and they make amazing coffee beans. Gets super crowded in the morning, and the layout of the place isn’t exactly conducive for fast service. I recommend anything, but I particularly enjoy their rose water lattes and their cortados with a bit of honey. Also, the oatmeal they supply is amazing as well — I often get the peanut butter and jelly one with less water than normal. Does the trick. Also, as someone who appreciates latte art, I have a say that the baristas do a great job of making your beverage look beautiful. Totally recommend.

This place clearly knows coffee. We had Japanese iced coffees and they were made perfectly. The staff gave us a great wealth of knowledge about the coffees as well!

Definitely one of the more expensive places on campus, but, the coffee is excellent. I’m a simple guy when it comes to coffee so I stick with the iced coffee and normal blends but they have a wide variety of others to choose from. They also have a nice selection of pastries. I’ve definitely made this place part of my daily routine here at Duke as have much of the Blue Devil Community!

If there is one thing I have to say about Joe Van Gogh it is that they serve the best hot chocolate at Duke. Located next to Bryan Center on Duke’s west campus, this offshoot of the main Joe Van Gogh in Durham is a small coffee shop which caters to the student population. They have about 4 tables by the window each of which seats two people; in general there is not much space to be had here, it’s more of the grab and go style. I normally don’t drink coffee but they have a lot of choices and special posted on a chalkboard outside. In addition to their coffees and hot beverages, they have a small selection of pastries and breakfast nibbles; however like most things at Duke prices can be a bit on the steep side if you don’t pay with food points(my hot cocoa usually costs about $ 3 for an average cup). Be sure to come between class rushes.
