First impression of this place is great. I pulled in needing gas and noticed they have full and self service. You can’t pay at the pump so I went in to pay and since I wanted to fill it, the guy just said no worries just fill it up and then come into pay. It reminded of my days growing up in Iowa. Super friendly. I asked about getting my Subaru checked over and was told to stop by at 8am and have the master mechanic check it out for me. I had just bought a used car and it’s making a funny noise. Also I know the clutch will need to be replaced eventually.
So I brought it in the next morning at 8am. Both people in the shop were very friendly. The mechanic took my car for a spin, noticed the noise, but said my clutch was fine. :)
He put it up on the jack and checked the exhaust and fluids ect. Told me there was NOTHING wrong with it. The whole process took maybe 20 minutes.
When I do have a problem, I know where I am taking my car.

Finding a decent, honest, and affordable mechanic when you move someplace new can feel, in some ways, as vital as air. Okay, let’s step back from that slightly — maybe not «air», as that gets serious really quickly. More like «as vital as finding a really good grocery store», or something else that’s practically necessary.
Because, at the end of the day, those of us who drive cars need to make sure that those cars keep running well, and that in the process of ensuring that they DO run well, we don’t create barren, dusty wastelands of our bank accounts.
Holy run-​on sentence, Batman.
The guys at Hope Valley Exxon do solid, surprisingly affordable work, don’t work in any hidden costs or behind-​the-​scenes schemes, and exercise patience with white dudes like me from Ohio who attempt to practice friendly, conversational Arabic on them (only to find out that a number of them are from Pakistan, which means Urdu would be the language of choice). The thought’s what counts, and really, how bad can even a butchered version of «thank you» be?
I found out about them due to asking our good friends from Durham where we should take our cars, and word-​of-​mouth seems to be the name of the advertising game here. They’ve got regulars, and the people I strike up conversation with in their waiting room also tend to swear by them and their work. I’m thankful to have found this place.
Also, for the purpose of handy information:
A) They pump your gas for you, or you can do it yourself if you really want to.
B) If you drop your car off in the morning (say, before 10 or so), they’ll figure out a way to get you where you need to go (even if that’s having you drive there with one of their service staff in your car, in order to drive your car back to the shop to get work done on it).
C) There’s really not a ton of easily-​accessible, walking-​distance stuff to eat or do immediately in the vicinity, although there’s a Hardees across the road. Yeah, I know — the first part of the sentence still holds strong. If you’re planning to wait, realize that the earlier you get your car in, the better, and that you’d probably better bring a book. Actually, just go to work, go home, or something else — it’ll get done and they’ll call you, and everything will be just fine.
