We contracted with this caterer to provide a brunch at our home the morning following our daughter’s wedding. Our agreement included eggs to order, sausage, bacon, potatoes, 2 kinds of waffles, a frittata, coffee, tea, juices, muffins and biscuits. He agreed initially to set up delivery of chairs and tables for our guests, and later backed out of this, so my husband arranged this himself. Two weeks prior to the event we scheduled a tasting of a few of the items, Stephen texted us and canceled due to a water pipe that was broken in the kitchen at the Raleigh event facility/kitchen where he would prepare our food. We rescheduled for the next morning. My husband and I met him in the parking lot only to find out that our tasting was cancelled again because the pipe thing wasn’t corrected. He hadn’t contacted us because he lost his phone. I was confused to see what looked like catering staff loading items from the event facility into a van(suggesting that someone had done some cooking that day). Stephen stated he would come to our home to see the area where he would set up his tables and the food. He did not do this until 2 days prior to our event and at that time he stated he would return the next day to deliver tables/any equipment that he could leave outside between 9 and 11 am. The next day was our daughter’s wedding, Stephen did not arrive at any time that day to deliver any items, as you can imagine we were a little busy and did not follow up with this. The day of our scheduled brunch, we expected Stephen to be at our home by 9 am and our guests(50 of them), were scheduled to arrive at 10 am. At approximately 8 am, Stephen texted my husband to tell us that the health inspector was at the kitchen and stated that his permit was expired and if he left the premises with food, he would be fined. So 2 hours before our guests were to arrive, and we may not have any food. There were a couple of phone calls between my husband and Stephen. He finally said he would be at the house at 9:45, but frankly we were confused about what food was going to show up, but it did appear we were not going to have the menu we planned. So, we purchased coffee, bagels and fruit so that we would have something to serve guests as they arrived. Stephen and his crew arrived about 10:15, our guests of course started showing up by 9:45. In the end, we had scrambled eggs and sausage prepared on our grill(for most of my guests, the eggs were not very warm), sweet potato waffles(I did not eat mine as it was soggy/chewy), potatoes, fruit(which looked like what I bought at the Harris Teeter), muffins and juice. No omelets, no frittata, no biscuits, no coffee and tea. Never mind the awful feeling and craziness that comes from thinking you have no food or lousy food for your guests. Hard to know exactly what happened here, inexperience??? bad luck??? A scam? Would not recommend to anyone.
