Jimmy, was a pleasure to work with. He explained the availabile options, the advantages of the different units, and let us make the call the which unit was best for us. He gave us a simple no nonsense quote, and completed the work on schedule. His installation work was second to none, and the new unit and thermostat work perfectly. Jimmy loves what he does and it shows in his craftsmanship. I’m so glad we made the choice to go with Bull City.

Jimmy and Harvey just finished installing a new gas package unit for me. The install went smoothly and the fit and finish of the ductwork, electrical, gas/condensate line are superb. I had trouble finding reviews of Bull City Heating and Cooling with regards to new installs so I was a bit anxious at first. Hopefully this positive review will be useful to others. I can tell this company takes pride in their work and will do things right the first time. There are many HVAC contractors but it’s rare that you’ll find the owner in the field troubleshooting and performing installations. Their diagnosis is honest and their pricing is very competitive. The rest is lengthy so please ignore if you don’t care for the details, but I think it’s worth sharing the background of the diagnosis: The home was purchased in April 2015 with(2) original Trane units. On a very hot/humid June weekend I returned home and found one of the system was not cooling and the refrigerant line had frozen up. I filed a claim with my home warranty(HWA) and never heard back from their contractor of choice, so I called several HVAC contractors on my own and they diagnosed the problem to be low refrigerant due to multiple leaks on the evaporator coil. Made sense to me at the time, so I decided to get multiple repair quotes from others in conjunction with a system replacement because the cost to replace the evaporator and recharge R-22 would have been +$ 3k. The warranty company was very slow to resolve my issue and didn’t like the repair prices given. Over the next 3 summer months the AC was still running marginally. Once a month the coil would freeze I would let it thaw for 24 hrs before restarting and it would work again for a while. By late August the home warranty contacted Bull City to provide another diagnosis and estimate for the repair. Jimmy came along with his assistant and determined there was a restriction and the refrigerant wasn’t metering properly which resulted in the freeze ups. Unfortunately, this also requires the evaporator to be replaced because the metering part is sold together. After doing some research I found that Jimmy’s diagnosis seemed very probable as it could create the same issues as a system with a leak and low refrigerant. This is another example of how detailed he is because it’s more difficult to diagnose, whereas the average technician who is not skilled or dishonest could jump to the conclusion that there’s a leak and the system is low on refrigerant. Some HVAC companies don’t even try to diagnose and recommend a system replacement due to age. Luckily for me the home warranty company finally agreed to purchase a new gas package unit for me and pay for a portion of the labor because the part required for the repair was not available. I wished there are more small businesses like Bull City. There’s a lost of talent in the trade these days and the larger companies do not want to repair when they can replace. As long as I own a property in this area, Bull City will be my first call for any HVAC issues/maintenance.
