This was a great place to eat at. My man brought me here for brunch and we had an amazing time! The food was spectacular. He wanted to come back again and again. The staff is super friendly and that’s is probably the primary reason besides the food that we will be back. If you are super hungry, order a muffin while you wait for your food.

Great brunch place. The Hey Lucy! Omelette was nice and filling. The black bean benedict was a bit spicy/salty but overall good. My only complaint is that the service was a bit slow(probably because the place was packed).

Very nice comfortable environment, friendly service and good food. I would give it 4 stars, however we took a friend there today and although it may seem like a small thing, but it seems indicative of a chain restaurant mentality, packets of butter. They used to serve whipped butter in a bowl, but we were told that they did away with that. Bad decision.

We went there for breakfast and I ordered the traditional with hard fried eggs while my friend chose Belgian waffles and hot chocolate. I liked the presentation and the ambience. The service was courteous and fast. The food was good except the potatoes in my plate which were over salted. I find the place overpriced for the location and traditional items they are serving.

We have been trying to visit this place for at least 6 months. Finally had a Sunday off from church and we made a mad dash to catch them before their early 2pm closing time. From the moment we stepped in the establishment to the moment we left the service was superior. Awesome five star waiter and the door greeter was hilarious. Love the atmosphere. Great location. The food is awesome! It’s a classy breakfast spot. The lack of the 5th star is because their early closing time. It would be awesome if this place would stay open for dinner! Just my tip!

Hmm, more like Another Mediocre Café. I finished my meal and walked out feeling very bloated. Brunch is always an excuse to eat a little more than usual, but the portion sizes here take it to the next level. Given it was a Sunday morning, I expected and received wait time and slow service. Between my friends and I, we tried a variety of the menu items from the lobster omelette to the granola+fruit+quinoa, and nothing really stood out in terms of taste. The location is close to Duke’s campus and thus more accessible sans car, but the mediocre quality of the Southern style comfort foods offered here is disappointing.

I love brunch. I’m a BIG fan of brunch! …but with the disparity in my wife’s schedule and my own, we rarely get time to enjoy this on a Sunday morning.(And as she IS my favorite dining companion, we try to find the time.) A few weeks ago, we found it. We hadn’t been back to A.B.E. for a while now, and with it’s proximity to the Al Buehler Trail(for a stroll afterward) we decided to just go for it. Our spur-of-the-moment decision had us getting there just as A.B.E. was getting SLAMMED by Duke fans wanting to avoid the raindrops prior to a football game.(Hey, even this Carolina fan knows the value of good eats in a cozy ambiance prior to heading out into the cold wetness!) That said, we walked into a full house. I mean, FULL. There may have already been 20 or so waiting outside, but thankfully they were all groups of three or more — and there was a table for two just waiting for us! As we were being seated by a window, we watched as another throng of… what, 30 or 40 people showed up? Did I mention they were FULL, BUSY, and SLAMMED? Yeah, well that didn’t stop our wait person, Akiva, from treating us as if we were the only patrons there. Her calm demeanor, her attentiveness to detail, her friendly suggestions, and her willingness to answer questions about the menu options without ever making us feel hurried in the least… well THAT’s what got them the fifth star. The SERVICE. Mind you, the food was every bit as good as we’d remembered.(Their corned-beef hash is wonderful — not greasy!) Every little detail about our brunch made us feel as if Akiva was there for us, and for no one else. Yes, she *did* have a number of tables to wait on besides ours… but that young lady was moving!(Except when checking on us, our needs, our coffee, etc. Then she was calm and collected. How she managed that, I’ll never know!) So here’s to you, Akiva. YOU made this a memorable visit. YOU got that fifth star for your restaurant. I hope the owners know how lucky they are to have you!

Not sure why this place has a three star rating. I’m from southern CA and in comparison to some of the places we frequent Another Broken Egg was very nice. We had the eggs Benedict and pancakes which came in large portions and were very tasty. There is a very nice selection of Benedicts on the menu I think six in total. The restaurant was clean and very nicely finished it had a full bar and a large dining area with booths and tables. We were seated fast and served faster. I couldn’t have asked for a better breakfast spot.

There are very few times when excellent food is not worth the wait but I have never experienced the type of waiting that we experienced here. The announced estimated wait time for a seat was half of what it ended up being(about an hour). We waited so long we went ahead and decided what we were going to order before we sat down. It took another hour after we ordered before the food actually came. «It should be out in five minutes» became fifteen. So I strongly recommend this restaurant, so long as you are not hungry and don’t have a watch.

We are BIG going out for breakfast people especially on a Sunday and wanted to like this place as it’s 5 minutes from our house and has a nice vibe when you walk in the door. There were a number of problems though one being the very long wait for our food. It was a busy Sunday and our waiter was nice, good with the coffee, water deal but after he took our order we waited a good 20 minutes to get our food. He did not come over to say anything about the long wait and I noticed two other tables nearby that were also sitting a long time before their food. That would have been ok if when the food came it was worth it, but sadly it wasn’t. My husband and I both ordered a scramble with spinach, bacon and cheese and it was lukewarm when it finally arrived, and the cheese looked congealed. Served with a very under-toasted english muffin and not real home fries– they looked like they were from a frozen package(I had a side of fruit which was very good). But come on, the eggs didn’t have hardly any spinach, were too cold and the almost raw muffin was just not happening. But I didn’t want to wait another ten minutes to have them toast it, so I put up with it. We will find another place for breakfast next time.

There are several reasons that this is a poor choice for breakfast or brunch. Lets start with the service. I have been to Another Broken Egg Café twice. The first we were seated at a lovely table outside. It wasn’t terribly busy and there seemed more than enough wait staff to cover the floor. We were seated and placed our order for drinks. Twenty minutes later I was served the first and only cup of coffee that I would receive that day. I was never asked if I needed a refill and after two request were made I gave up. We ordered food. I ordered the crab cake cavalo it was a featured special that day. Lets just say I should have known better. I received a semi frozen lump of imitation crab on the most curios poached egg that I had ever seen. This was placed haphazardly on an English muffin that would challenge for the stalest bread that I have ever eaten. This was served with a side of frozen and over cooked imitation potato skins. A breakfast place that cant even serve real potatoes is not on my list of places to eat. Glutton for punishment we tried this establishment a second time. We had a coupon for free beignets nothing like starting off a meal with miniature bricks completely and totally covered in powdered sugar. They were served with the sweetest orange concoction that I had ever had the displeasure of eating. I ordered a fried green tomato blt for the entrée. I was served a soggy undercooked pre– breaded and frozen green tomato on an aged piece of lettuce with a single piece of bacon adorning the sandwich. After I stripped the sandwich of the in– edible I was left with two delightful pieces of wheat toast and a strip of bacon torn into quarters. That was the last time that I will ever darken the door of this place. I hate that the review wouldn’t allow me to give negative stars.

my #1 problem is work. WORK getting in the way of breakfast. My other problem is this establishment closes before i get off work. Solution? order take out for breakfast! Yesssss, and they are so efficient at it too! Want to bring something to work to share? those biscuit bignets are amazing… I live close by, so I picked up the phone, ordered bignets for take out and they were ready in 10 minutes! Next time there is an office ‘pot luck’ i plan on buying that delicious baked brie thing. YUM

Creatively named, another broken egg café has been on my list of places to try for a while. 3.5 stars overall is a suitable rating. My thoughts: Food: 3⁄5. –We started with a round of beignets. I like when beignets that are soft and fluffy but these were too crunchy on the outside and doused in so much powdered sugar that they were intimidating to eat. The orange syrup they came in was good, albeit a tad too sweet. One beignet was enough to satisfy my curiosity with this dish. –I ordered the Simply Salmon off their healthy menu as my entrée. The salmon was well cooked, medium rare to my specification. The vegetables were a bit greasy — and some of the vegetables were undercooked. All in all, a decent dish for a fair price($ 12), but not particularly memorable. Ambiance: 3.5÷5 Similar to a classier IHOP, this place definitely has a chain restaurant feel. But generally no complaints. Service: 5⁄5 Our server was attentive and friendly. We had originally ordered the beignets because an ad on the table said we could get them for free after downloading an app. The app itself wasn’t working though, and our server ended up just giving us the dish for free! All in all, a good experience. However, there are more memorable places for brunch in Durham so I probably won’t be back for a while.

I’m not a morning person, but when I was told that the Cinnamon Roll French Toast is AMAZING here, I decided it’d be worth it to wake up early ON A WEEKEND. The things I do for sweets… My group was seated outdoors, before the crazy, freezing cold weather hit. I had received an email from this place for free Biscuit Beignets and decided to make use of it. It’s a Southern type of pastry that comes with powdered sugar and honey marmalade, normally $ 4.99 for 8 pieces. I was not impressed. They were dry and lacking in taste. Plus, they were not soft, as I had imagined. I did, however, enjoy The Floridian, which is an omelette filled with cream cheese and topped with garlic sautéed crabmeat, Monterey Jack, and green onions, $ 11.99. It’s the first time I’ve had cream cheese with an omelette. It’s also odd to me that the crabmeat, cheese, and green onions sit on top of the omelette, instead of being incorporated into it. Not bad though. It comes with an unappealing English muffin and an excessive amount of country potatoes too. Saving the best for last, I present the main attraction: Cinnamon Roll French Toast! It’s a thick-sliced cinnamon roll(divided into 3 slices) grilled with French toast batter, layered with cream cheese icing, Bananas Foster sauce, mixed berries, and 3 mountains of whipped cream $ 10.99. Was it worth getting up early on a weekend? YES. I could order this dish on its own and be a happy camper. The bread is sweet, dense, and a million times better than the bread that’s ordinarily used for French Toast! The sweet, juicy berries are also a wonderful addition, but it’s really unnecessary to have so much whipped cream. Our waiter was a friendly guy, but he hardly came around to our table. He would take our order, disappear for a long period of time, serve us food, disappear back inside for another decade or so, come back out to check on us when he needed to serve neighboring tables, and then disappear forever again. Customers who sit outside always tend to be neglected because waiters have to go out of their way to check on them, but when customers have to go inside to find the waiter for service, which we almost had to do, then that’s not cool.

Went for Breakfast and had the Black Bean Benedict. The Benedict sauce was good but I was told it would be spicy. It was really not spicy at all. The combination of black bean cake, eggs, and benedict sauce was tasty. The potatoes were pretty plain. Nothing but square cut potatoes with very little flavor and no onions or spices. Since it was the first time there they gave us their Biscuit Beignets which apparently is a house speciality because they seemed to be pushing those. They tasted ok but nothing that would make me want to order a whole order. The coffee and service were both very good.

I came back to ABEC New Year’s day with a friend. I had enjoyed my previous visit and was anticipating another solid brunch meal, but my expectations weren’t met on this visit. They were fairly busy when I arrived. Our waiter was Ernest, and quite frankly his excellent waitering saved this from being a one-star review. I noticed that Ernest gets mentioned in a lot of reviews, and he certainly is good at what he does, very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. They must have been short-staffed on New Years day b/c Ernest was having to cover the bar area as well as about ten tables. Even super man would have trouble doing this! After we arrived and ordered, the place did get a lot busier. It took orders way too long to come out, maybe 45 minutes. I went for brunch, but it ended up being dinner(ha ha). Anyway, the food did finally come out and I ordered the biscuit and gravy with two egged poached, home fries and sausage. The poached eggs were supposed to be cooked medium, but one was hard-boiled and the other runny. The biscuit was doughy, and the sausage was inedible. I dunno if they switched up the order, but it did not taste like any pork sausage I had ever eaten before. My friend had ordered a side of bacon and it didn’t arrive with his meal, so he had to ask for it. Not a very good experience this time at ABEC. It may have had to do with it being a holiday and they were overwhelmed with the crowd and understaffed, but my second time visiting doesn’t make me want to be in any hurry to return.

I came here for Sunday brunch because it was nearby and my friend and I were seated quickly around 1pm. We both ordered the Mardi Gras omelette(andouille, crawfish & red bell peppers topped with tomato-hollandaise, diced tomatoes & green onions) because it sounded amazing and its photo looked really good in the menu. Even though it’s a chain, Another Broken Egg café felt more like a small-town mom-and-pop place from the friendly service, the cute wall décor, and the creative food. The Mardi Gras omelette was amaaazing. I didn’t think I would finish the whole thing because the serving was huge, and came with an English biscuit and butter as well as roasted potato chunks on the side, but I somehow devoured it all. The roasted potatoes were especially crispy and flavorful and probably my favorite part of the whole dish! The omelette was done just right with a little bit of creamy/runny yolk and tomato-hollandaise goodness, scattered andouille and crawfish. I do wish there was a bit more andouille, but otherwise it was a wonderful meal!

Mmmm, Loved it. Food and service were both excellent. I had the skinny omelet which has asparagus, red peppers and goat cheese in it, served with a side of fruit and English muffin w/sour cream. The other menu options looked very appealing as well, I had a difficult time deciding! The amount & quality of food for the prices was very reasonable. The ambiance and décor is a sophisticated casual(i.e. Fun and light w/o being cheesy). The waitress was super-sweet and efficient and all staff that I encountered were very pleasant. Looking forward to retiring to try something else :-)

Super busy today. They told us 5 – 10 minute wait that didn’t seem bad but twenty minutes later we went to check and see if our buzzard was still working. They said we still had another party in front of us. It was probably another five minutes later when they ended up calling out our names because– yes, the buzzer wasn’t working(so it never hurts to check). Food was still good. We had someone else take our drink orders and I think we saw our server once to take our orders and once more for the bill. We had several other people stop by to deliver our food or check on our table. Sounds like good team work. They have high chairs and crayons and a paper menu for kids to color with smaller portion meals available. They promised to bring out some scrambled eggs early for the little one but I think it was just too crowded! I like this place but I think I’ll try and avoid the rush hours next time.
