THEYONLYACCEPTCASH. With that being said, this was my first visit to wimpy’s upon reading all the positive reviews. The owner and all the employees were beyond friendly. It made the experience of waiting more bearable. I ordered the onion rings and a hamburger to play it safe. Their burgers are freshly grounded daily. Everything is from scratch and their sweet tea is old fashioned. I recommend this place to anyone! It’s definitely a hidden gem.

Good, well made burger. It was simple(because I ordered it that way and they’re made to order), cooked perfectly, and have top notch ingredients. It’s a little hole in the wall place with a solid lunch crowd.

Whimpy’s Grill. Another place you can just cross off of your list before you even waste your time to go. First off there is no seating. Yes I know it has always been that way. It sucked then and it still does. Who wants to eat a greasy messy cheeseburger in their car? Or try to drive somewhere to eat it after it gets cold and nasty? Pointless. Weird hours. Again. see above. The fact that it has always been that way just dont make it ok in my book. Some people want to, or have to eat lunch after 1:30PM. The food is honestly nothing special at all period. Bland over cooked burgers. The service is rude and completely unprofessional. They act like they dont care if you eat here or not. So thats fine with me. I certainly prefer NOT to eat at a place like this. On top of that they only accept cash. A good place to avoid. There is not 1 good thing about this place. If you saw it on TV, forget about it. It was all fiction. Nothing you saw actually exists here. Especially good food or friendly service.

It’s a tiny building, we almost missed it when looked for it. There is no eating inside, so most people eat either in their cars parked I front of the building or just take home. The hotdogs are super tasty, especially NC special. I didn’t find burgers very special, yes they are freshly made and well made, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Onion rings deserve five star. Best onion rings. Crispy and chunky. So good. Burgers and fries are not much special. They open only weekdays till mid-afternoon. I wish they open at least on Saturday.

I read the reviews and decided to try it since I was in the area. I ordered a double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and bacon and could barely get it in my mouth. When I did though, it was as flavorful as any burger I’ve ever eaten. I also had an order of onion rings. They were also very good. I will be back if ever in the area again.

Finally came by here after it has been bookmarked on my Unilocal!for awhile and I brought 2 friends! Yes, this place is a tiny building and isn’t near any real landmarks. Yes, it is cash only which in my opinion makes things better! Yes, it’s just freaking amazing. Ordered our burgers, fries, and jumbo drinks and it was $ 27 for 3 of us, so $ 9/person for amazing, delicious happiness. We ordered at the left window, paid, and waited for about 5 minutes at the right window. I would compare the burgers to Kewpee if you’ve been in Ohio or Whataburger in the deep south. The taste was just out of this world and I see why people come here. I will be back with more people in tow for yummy burgers and fries.

Breakfast or lunch this place is the best locally owned and operated fast food place around. There is nothing on their menu that they don’t do to prefection. Personal favorites include the buttered sausage biscuit, the burger, hotdogs, and the ever delicious banana pudding and sweet tea. Not to mention the owner is the nicest guy in the world.

I always look for some challenge food in the morning. Been hearing from ppl saying that wimpys grill garbage burger. I am here to challenge myself to eat. Clearly, I was stunt by the huge burger. Within two buns, you have lettuces on top, bacon in the middle and party at the bottom. It’s a blast and I am surprised I finish it(cuz it’s grease and delicious). What I would say about wimpys grill is that everyone should challenge themselves to try this. It has great texture. But I have to mention the fact that I am not a fan of onion rings. Anyway, Come and try !

A staple old school breakfast and lunch spot. They still make burgers and hot dogs the old way on flat top. They close at 2pm so get there early.

If you could see me right now you’d see I have tears in my eyes. The burger I just ate has changed my life forever. I now have a reason to workout. It’s to eat burgers from Wimpy’s. Thank you and goodbye!

I think my expectations were too high, going in for the first time. The burger was good, but not the jaw-dropping«best burger in durham» that I had been hearing about. I also expected it to be cheaper, since it’s a tiny hallway(no seats) and cash only. BUT I still haven’t tried the garbage burger. Maybe that will change my mind!

After 4 years in Durham hearing about this place I finally managed to go. I can’t find anything bad to say about it. I got the Garbage burger(without ketchup, mayo and mustard) and added jalapeños and it definitely hit the spot. Best part of the burger is that somehow it was not sloppy. I was expecting to make a mess eating this thing with all the toppings but it stayed together so well. I don’t know if they just don’t like money and that’s why they’re only open till 2 on weekdays or if they just feel like they can’t produce this level of quality hour after hour 7 days a week but either way, this is worth finding the time to go. I need to try their fries some other day. Today I got the slaw on the side instead of the fries and it was top notch. Seriously, if you are free during their open hours and have a place where you can take the food to go eat, then do it. You won’t regret it.

I’m giving it a 5 out of 5 for fast food type places. Why waste your money on some crappy McDonald’s or Wendy’s food when this is around? I’ll never understand why you would. With that being said, this is the best fast food you can get in Durham! Their burgers are legendary. You can’t sit and eat here(b/c there are no tables), but that does not deter me from coming back often. If you haven’t been here you NEED to come.

I was out early running errands today and finally decided to grab the Garbage Burger I’ve heard so much about. Where else can you get a burger for breakfast! For just over $ 12 I got the burger with onion rings and banana pudding. Now, the price at first seemed a bit steep for a place like Wimpy’s but. for 3 top notch items, it’s well worth it. A «gourmet burger» in downtown Durham without anything else will run you $ 13! Everything was delicious. The burger is exactly what you’d expect. A tasty, fresh, messy delight! The rings were crispy and fried to perfection. They’ve got the best banana pudding. I loved the bit of meringue and the pudding itself had such a richness. The owners were there of course. friendly as can be. The other customers that came by while I waited for my order seemed to be regulars, everyone knew each other. I doubt I would be able to handle another garbage burger but I will definitely be back! The homemade slaw and chili will surely make it onto my next burger.

Wimpy’s is super-casual and very old school Durham(read: before everything in Durham became trendy, organic, and locally sourced). And that’s one of the reasons why it’s so good. It’s been around for a long time(not exactly sure when it opened), but it’s somewhat of an institution. It’s a casual, walk-up order place without any seating outside(unlike say, King’s Sandwich Shop). So, you inevitably end up eating most of your food in your car because it’s(a) good and(b) so greasy that the grease dripping from the bag will soak your car seat if you wait too long to eat it. I opt for breakfast because I don’t eat beef. The biscuits are HUGE. Seriously, at least 50% if not more, bigger than a biscuit from McDonald’s or BoJangles or whatnot. The eggs, cheese, and bacon are pretty typical for a breakfast biscuit. Good – but I wouldn’t go there just for a breakfast biscuit(especially one that I could only eat half of, because they don’t heat up that well later). The hash browns, however, are wonderful! They are perfectly crispy. Just enough salt and grease without making you feel sick for eating a whole one(they’re McDonald’s-style – come in a single long oval). It was heavenly – so good that I didn’t even need ketchup(and I love ketchup with breakfast potatoes, but this was so good that ketchup absolutely wasn’t needed). I definitely recommend checking it out! Especially to get some really friendly service and to visit a business in Durham that’s been open for more than 5 years!

Dearest Wimpy, I love your Garbage Burger. You’re definitely not a Wimp and There’s nothing Garbage about it. Everything is the opposite of Wimpy and Garbage. There is alot on the burger so I wouldn’t recommend eating it anywhere other than their parking lot. The bun gets soggy so don’t wear nice clothes or drive your nice car; I didn’t. It’s a bit pricey, how pricey I’m not sure because the price isn’t listed on anything. I wonder if the price depends on the day, the time and the crowd. Who knows and at the moment I don’t care. Burgers and Fries I live for. Sadly the Fries I won’t be partaking in again. They were less than lackluster and while I love onions I don’t care for onion rings. There was a weird combo of crunchy and limp fries that definitely weren’t hot enough. Back to the burger, its great, I’ll be back on Friday for the second time this week. Unfortunately its out of the way for me and I won’t be able to get there durig the hours. Though I wish they were open on Saturdays, I respect that they’re not.

I’ve only been here once, and all I had was the garbage burger with onion rings. I also tried getting a biscuit but they were already out(Tip: get there early because they will run out of food!) I can’t attest to the other burgers they serve but the garbage burger was amazing. It was a mess to eat with the chili but oh so delicious. Honestly I don’t think I will be trying any other burger, I mean, why not have the best all the time right? I have heard that the banana pudding is also amazing, but sadly they were out of that as well by the time I got there. So here are my tips: 1) Come early if you want all the options available 2) Garbage burger. Get it. 3) They are cash only, so be prepared. 4) No seating available, inside or outside, so be prepared for that too.
