Brave Recipes, Amazing Results! We’re here in town for the week and we decided to stop in. Looking at the menu there are a lot of intriguing combinations that most restaurants just don’t have the imagination or courage to attempt. Our waitress Élan arrived on cue the entire time. So, we decided on the whitefish ceviche salad, jalapeñita hamachi sashimi, and a couple of other dishes. The ceviche was SO bright and fresh, the best I’ve ever had(and I love to order it whenever I see it on a menu) and its combination of ingredients made it stand out! Powerful, unique, and still perfectly balanced. The jalapeñita hamachi sashimi dish was also brave and balanced. I could not bring myself to use wasabi on it(first time for me) In short, if you love novelty in great food, this restaurant would easily hold its own against some the best restaurants in the US. I have a feeling East by Southwest is going to become a «destination» restaurant

Go and eat for a wonderful fish experience. Durango always gets great fish for this restaurant. Jordan, assisted by Trish, offered some great advice on menu choices and their service was«spot-on». We come here for the fresh fish and come back for the great service. The sushi chef, Ake, served a SPECTACULAR Omakase sashimi dish. As beautiful as it was good. Can’t say enough good things about East by Southwest. We drive 200 miles(literally !!!) to eat here.

Stuffed with sushi, steaks and beers. Élan is an awesome meal consultant and she guided us on a fantastic culinary journey. If you spend any time in Durango, East by Southwest must be on your restaurant list. Happy tummy.

Stopped in for lunch after a morning of hiking. the lunch specials were great. We both had a salmon sashimi which came with 3 pieces on each order. Then we shared a tuna poki roll and an asparagus roll. The lunch special was to choose two orders for 11.00 so we were able to both get sashimi and share two rolls. The lunch special came with miso soup. Service was good. All in all, a great experience.

After a pretty good afternoon bike ride around town, my family and I were lucky to have made it to East by Southwest for some truly unique and authentic sushi before they closed for lunch. The one and only reason I am not pushing the 5 star button is for the lack of attention by the hostess. It seemed that she was busy with her children/grandchildren at the bar area(which I understand because I have a 16 month old), but I was left feeling unsure if I was going to be seated, or if they were even open at all. Once we were seated, our experience was excellent. Max, our server, got waters to our table immediately and also had drinks(specialty cocktails) delivered shortly thereafter. He was very personable and helpful. The sushi was excellent, and the generous serving of Japanese rice and chicken($ 6!) from the kids menu kept our little guy very happy. All in all, it was a great experience and we will absolutely be back.

Can’t believe you can find sushi this amazing in this landlocked little Rocky Mountain town! We came in just as they were closing down from lunch and they kept the place open and made up feel welcome. Max, our server, took excellent care care of us and recommend some amazing sashimi with their delicious fusion tastes you’ll not find anywhere else! A definite must when you are craving sushi!

Stopped in this place a few nights ago while visiting family, and totally loved it! The restaurant had a great atmosphere, the food was delicious, and our server was FABULOUS! If you’re ever in the area, stop in and ask for Alexis — she will take great care of you and help you pick out some tasty selections! BTW –The«Hand Grenade» appetizer is to die for!

As usual, we looked at Unilocal to help us find a great restaurant while we are visiting Durango. If I could give it more stars I would! The sushi is unbelievable! The restaurant décor is beautiful too! Max was our waiter and was very nice and helpful! Also loved the complimentary cotton candy!!!

Been here multiple times in the past and it was always incredible– that is until our most recent visit. The last time we went to east meets southwest was about 2 years ago and boy has it changed. Their service was god awful. We asked many times for a variety of needs from an extra napkin, wine, and appetizers. Waitress was friendly then promptly forgot about our orders. Has become too big and service has suffered. Do not recommend when you visit Durango

The owner can deny this all he wants but on my children’s life it did happen, albeit years ago when I went to Fort Lewis, and about 30 minutes before closing. It was probably after he had a few drinks. Maybe this will help you remember…“I don’t need some fucking broke college kids money” ******************************************** The owner is a huge asshole(which is an understatement). Our group of 10 easily spent over $ 1,000 for a birthday dinner for my wife. I called in and asked about bringing in a cake and the girl on the phone said sure, no problem and that they will serve it for us. When I arrived early to bring the cake I purchased at a local bakery, they advised me that it would be a $ 50 initial charge and then $ 10/plate server charge. They would not budge on the charge so I left the cake at home. I should have cancelled then but my wife really wanted to eat there and the group of friends was a surprise. Service was atrocious from the moment we sat down. Wife’s drink was never brought, even after several reminders to the server. Finally made it there after about 30 min. When it was time for food, everyone was served except for my wife. They forgot her order and we had to wait another 30 min. No apologies, no comps offered. I went to speak to the owner while he was at the bar. He told told me to «fuck off» and said he doesn’t need my $. When we tried to leave without paying they threatened to call the cops. Do yourself a favor and eat at a restaurant who cares about their customers. East a Sushitarian across the street. FUCKEASTBYSOUTHWEST

Great food, great drinks and Rylee runs the show in the golden triangle with a smile, attentive service and fun professionalism. Solid overall and definitely see Rylee to get one of the great specialty beverages. I always recommend this place to friends and visitors… best happy hour in town.

Sushi was very good for a mountain town. The service was fantastic. However, the udon noodles were cold and the flavor wasn’t as good as other udon I have had. To top it off, they give you fresh cotton candy at the end!

We have had sushi all over the US and East By Southwest is still by far the #1 spot we have tried. Service from Jordan was excellent and I would highly recommend the hand grenades, Mojitos and tiradito! You honestly can’t go wrong with most of the menu items. Definitely check it out!

Right now this is a one star review simply because I was seated for over 25 minutes with every server walking by and not once were we served. We got up and walked out and one server even said have a good night. I was way too angry to get into an altercation right there I called later. The lady who answered was very apologetic. They did offer a gift certificate to come back and I May come back I am still in town for three days but in my opinion it is inexcusable to not be served in a restaurant at all especially if you are not busy.

Amazing sushi in Durango? YES! Think you’re in LA or NY? YES! Walk outside after eating and realize you’re still in CO? YES! We are visiting for a couple days and always go to East by Southwest when in town. We started with miso soup and Korean short ribs, followed by albacore tuna and Scottish salmon sushi. The grand finale is the salmon topped High Roller and the Boomshiki with bacon, scallops and smoked salmon. Both rolls are amazing but clearly it’s more fun to say«Boomshiki!!» The evening ends with complimentary cotton candy which seems funny and odd but super works as a perfect finish! Our server was Emily and she is an A plus for so many reasons — she’s kind, fun and funny and made the evening just perfect. She really is an amazing person and superb server. Ask for her, you’ll be glad you did. Sergio the owner has done an amazing job with this place — 5 stars without question! Can’t wait until my next visit to Durango!
