I heard about Lluvia after scouring through Groupon deals for natural hair services. Before purchasing the deal, I looked at the Unilocal reviews and was pleased that the salon had pretty good reviews. I had some intial issues booking my appointment on Schedulicity but after leaving a voicemail, I was quickly contacted and able to book online. Lluvia was very easy to find as it is located across from Perimeter Mall in the Salon Suites Beauty Mall. The salon is an intimate small space with only enough room for the client and Master Stylist/Owner DeAna. Since I booked as new client, DeAna began with a consulation which consisted of assessing the needs of my hair, asking about my regimen, and my styling options. I felt that she was very knowledgeable about hair care; which unfortunately can be a lost art in many natural hair salons. I was comfortable throughout the entire process and felt as if I was having a conversation with one of my girlfriends. I opted for a flat twist style with a trim and hydration treatment. Overall, I was happy with the look and feel of my hair. I am still testing out some natural hair salons but I would have no problem coming back to Lluvia when it’s time for my next trim.

I recently moved to Atlanta and have been looking for a new stylist. I decided to try out Lluvia based on the Unilocal reviews, but I was very disappointed. I went in first for my free consultation, which sounds good, but I’m not too sure what the point of it was. I imagine it was helpful to her to examine my hair and maybe evaluate how she would approach it, but she didn’t share any of that with me or make any sort of recommendations of what I should do. And it kind of sounded like she uses the same products for everyone anyway. She says she’ll treat different hair differently depending on its type and condition — i.e. not every style is one size fits all. Again, sounds good, but I feel like I had to pry to get her to actually say anything *to me* about my hair. It felt like whatever she learned from the consultation was a big secret and it wasn’t supposed to be for me. Anyway. Not a big deal. She seemed like she knew what she was doing so I went ahead and booked an appointment to get my hair twisted. Her site said 2 strand twists were $ 65, which I thought was a good price. But she told me to book as a new client, and when I did that the price seemed to be $ 100(more if I wanted a steam treatment, which she told me to get because I was a new client). It was confusing. So I paid more than I wanted to, but figured if she did a good job I’d come back and it would be cheaper next time. So I make my appointment and go in. After she washes my hair and is combing it out, she(politely) complains to me that my hair is too knotted and that I should comb it out before coming. I had just untwisted it a couple days before and it still had its shape, so it’s not like it had been sitting as one matted afro mess for a couple days. Also, that’s what I always did with my old stylist, and she combs my hair out right after washing and conditioning and has never had any issue combing through it. Not sure if DeAna let it get too dry or what. So she blows out my hair before twisting, which is what I prefer, although she blew it out much straighter than I’m used to, which I knew was going to make my twists look too thin initially. But the thing that bothered me most about the whole experience was the twists themselves. They were so sloppy. Really uneven sizes — some were easily twice the size as others. And most of them she did not twist very close to the scalp. It looked AWFUL. I maybe should have said something then, but I think I was in shock. Maybe if she had asked me how I liked it(which I feel like most courteous stylists do) I would’ve snapped out of my shock and commented, but she didn’t. So I sit under the dryer til I’m crispy, then she immediately starts to untwist them. I stop her, because I got them twisted to wear them like that for a few weeks, not get an immediate twist out. I never asked for a twist out at any point and her service is not listed that way, so I don’t know why she assumed. I wondered afterwards if she did such a sloppy job because she was planning to untwist them and felt it didn’t matter as much. But I didn’t ask for that service, and they still would’ve looked uneven. And that was way too much money to pay for something that haphazard. I think I’m only not giving her 1 star because I did get a wash and steam treatment out of it, and my hair was salvageable after I re-did a number of the most noticeably bad twists when I got home. Maybe DeAna is great for other styles, but I would NOT recommend her to anyone for twists!

I’ve been natural for a little less than 4 years and primarily maintain my hair at home. For the past year and a half, I’ve been getting my hair straightened and trimmed at a local hair school. I don’t get excited when my hair is straightened; I only do it for length checks and trimming maintenance. I love my kinks and coils, so I don’t do this often. I was in terrible need and didn’t want to spend all day at the hair school so I started searching Unilocal and found Lluvia. It’s close to my home and the prices were not ridiculously expensive. I had a consult with De’Ana last Thursday and she made me feel right at home. She was extremely knowledgeable and just very down to earth. I made the appointment when I got home and I went back Friday to let her work her magic. I couldn’t stop playing in my hair!!! It looked amazing and De’Ana has gained a loyal client. The next time I need maintenance, I will be in her chair. It’s almost a week layer and my blowout is still holding up.

Thanks Unilocal for the reviews. I have been looking for a natural hair stylist for over a year now since doing my big chop. My hair has grown out and I’d been keeping it braided for convenience. Went yesterday and got it pressed out and trimmed. I was a bit nervous about how it would turn out because my hair is extremely thick. Deana did her magic and it feels like butter. I love it and will definitely be back. She also uses good products(moroccan oil, design essentials).

I found DeAna about seven years ago when she worked for an upscale salon. She led me through transisitioning to natural hair. Prior, I went to a Domican salon where they fried my hair to get it straight and did not focus on health and maintenance. DeAna suggests what will work for your hair’s texture and your lifestyle, even if her recommendations are not what you want to hear. Here boutique approach to service is a welcome change from traditional salons. Plus, online scheduling eliminates plenty of hassles. I always receive compliments when I leave Lluvia. I have been coming to Lluvia Hair Studio for almost a year now for my Locs Maintenance and I am impressed every time with DeAna’s expertise, candor and efficiency! She is very well informed and imparts wonderful information on hair maintenance, products and solutions to many hair types. I see a sound base of regulars each time I come there, which says big things about her professional service, not to mention a genuine talent that is very hard to find for our natural hair! See Shyniece, the junior stylist. Lluvia is an all natural hair salon with two stylist. Senior and Junior. They do Keratin treatments for 250.00. I havent tried that yet and I am unsure that I ever would. For a wash and blow out its 45.00 with Shyneice. You have to book your appointment online which can sometimes be a pain when you want to get a last minute or same day appointment.
