After one night’s stay, I can definitely say we won’t stay again. The hotel is not maintained well. It is quite dirty, and the dirt isn’t simply from a single incident… its dirt that is built up from day to day neglect. The walls, bathroom fixtures and furniture are dirty and stained and quite simply not cared for. While the carpets seem vacuumed at first glance, built up dirt and debris are evident on edges and under furniture. The beds sheets are clean but dingy gray and old. I would not sleep with the bedspread. The heater/air conditioner seemed newer and in a good operational state. While the bathroom is functional, one can’t overlook the state of disrepair and feeling of unsanitary conditions. Barely passable condition and definitely not a $ 120 room.

I usually have good luck with Days Inn properties so I thought I’d overlook the bad reviews and give it a go. I’ve been in worse, trust me, but I’ve been in a lot better. It’s close to US23 but Charlotte M. was right, you have to want to come here. There is no sign, other than a pylon sign it shares with Burger King that shows on US23 but hardly anywhere else. It’s behind the Speedway, and even if you know that it’s on Outer Drive(thank you, Unilocal!) you can’t find Outer Drive because the street sign is obfuscated by foliage. Dundee? Can you take care of this, please? Let’s start with 5 stars and work backwards. Five star property? The Waldorf it ain’t. Um, this is a Days Inn, remember? Automatic 1 star reduction. Attractive lobby, check. Friendly night help, check. Parking convenient to room? Check. Security lock on outer door? Busted. Minus 1 star. Corridor? Tacky. There are spots on the carpet. Although smoking is not legal, some of the nimrods who stay here smoke anyway and the smoke smell permeates everything. Minus 1 star. The wallpaper appears to be newer and adds to the atmosphere, add ½ star back on. Room? Large and comfortable. Check. Firm bedding. Check. Small work table and a lamp with an outlet, a couple of side chairs, large flat screen television with cable. Add ½ star back for the overall quality of the room. Refrigerator? Large dormitory style — double check. Microwave? Check. Coffee maker in room? Check. Good coffee? Um, no. It tasted like sausage. Overall room amenities — should be worth one star but I’m only adding ½ star because… The coffee maker works but it seems like it was salvaged from the Andrea Doria. The refrigerator has water standing in the bottom shelf. Bathroom: Large, clean, plenty of towels. The vanity faucet is loose, so when you lift or push the single lever open or closed, the entire faucet moves. The drain in the sink was slower than the Dan Ryan in drive time. Breakfast with lodging? Check. Breakfast: Pretty standard fare, roll-your-own waffle, bagels, cereal, lousy coffee and a desk clerk more interested in texting than taking care of the lobby. Overall cleanliness? Not so hot, musty and smoke odors, not much better from HVAC unit Minus 1 star. 1 star is a little harsh, I’ve been in worse places than this one. 3 is a little strong. I’d give it 2−½ if I could, but I can’t, so 2 stars it is. It”s fine for what it is but it’s below the standards I expect, even from Days Inn.

This is an older hotel but the price is right for the condition. We stayed 4 nights. Housekeeping service is great. We asked for and got a room on the parking lot side because the noisy freeway is near the other side. Our maintenance request was taken care of promptly. Breakfast is lacking in quantity but okay in quality. There was a urine stain on the bedspread & both beds had new bedspreads the day I notified the front desk about the problem. We will definitely stay there again if the need arises.

Days Inn is borderline revolting. Imagine a cross between the décor & icky feeling of a nursing home and the cleanliness of a seedy roadside motel and THAT is Dundee’s Days Inn. Not kidding. Btw– the first clue the place sux is you can’t actually find the road entrance because there is none… gotta turn onto a resudential side street near Burger King, drive a couple hundred yards and then see a tiny, 18″ sign with an arrow. There isn’t a Days Inn sign on the hotel or main street either… Between the lobby and the room corridor, there is a restaurant kitchen-like door into a stairwell and then another door into the hall of rooms. Peeling wall-paper, ceiling stains, weird lighting, stained carpet, cheap plywood furniture, gross linens(with stained vellux blankets & a floral quilted polyester bedcover that I was convinced hadn’t been washed & would give me bed bugs) & thin sandpaper towels are what await you. It’s the kind of place that 60 Minutes does news reports on & finds scary bacteria and human fluids on every inch of the room. I wanted a sleeping bag for inside the sheets. Never ever, EVER again.
