A 4 star experience, although up-charged due to Grandma’s Marathon weekend. On my on-going quest to run a marathon in all 50 States, my travels to knock off Minnesota lead me here to this quaint town of Duluth. Well, it ain’t so quaint when there’s a convention center in downtown. Still, Duluth is a small town really with the I-35 going straight through it before changing into MN-61 going up towards Canada(which was tempting, but didn’t do). On average, this Motel 6 ranges from $ 40-$ 65/night on most days, but since Grandma’s Marathon is like the only big thing to knock the city over — as far as economic impact goes, everyone in town is going to raise rates to take in more money. That’s the nature of the beast. At least for me, there wasn’t a two night minimum here at the Motel 6, but I stayed 2 nights anyway. Amazingly that this Motel 6 was priced way better than other properties in Duluth, since the Motel 6 brand most people would stay away from, but it was affordable, comfortable, and a roof over our heads without seriously being overpriced. I paid $ 99/night plus tax, which was really good, considering that other properties were charging more than that. With that said, Motel 6 Duluth is located VERY conveniently off the I-35 at exit 254 @ 27th Street West. The interstate is very easy to get on and off of, so best believe that this was the perfect location to be had in Duluth. This Motel 6 location features a private parking lot and has wifi, but you would need to pay for it, which really blows. Nearby this stretch of paradise, is a gas station, convenience store, which I bought a couple pints of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, and the Duluth Grill, which I didn’t do. Motel 6 accepts all major forms of credit cards, which is a plus in my book. I was here Friday & Saturday nights, June 20th and 21st and was given room # 226. The room itself was clean and satisfactory. It was a non-smoking room, of course, and I can’t get over the fact that there was BOTH a microwave AND a mini fridge in my room! Motel 6’s doesn’t usually even have mini fridges at all, but my room did! I was just stoked! The overall experience for me was a solid 4 stars. It could’ve been a 5 star experience if the prices were in their reasonable range and not be upcharge just because of some special annual event. The television work good and the beds were comfortable enough. Although the building itself was aging, but the property seemed to be A-okay, especially with being Motel 6. I would like to say that the check in process was very good. The lady at the desk whom checked me in commented if I was in town for the marathon and I said yes. That was pretty cool and I just smiled as I paid for my room. The check out process was okay too, since I had to leave at 5am in the morning. Good thing there was someone there, so I can just give them my room key and be off back to Minneapolis-Saint Paul airport to catch my flight home. I actually enjoyed my stay, but wished it was cheaper. The maid service was good. I didn’t use any other amenities that Motel 6 has to offer. Or do they? Support local! B+
