An ad for Mostro Burger’s Cerviche flashed on my Facebook feed one day and I absolutely love cerviche so i decided to give it a try. It turned out to be a horrible decision! Maybe everything else at that place is good, but the cerviche is horrible. They used Talapia of all fish!!! I’ve had cerviche from many different places and many different countries but never once had it with Talapia! Total waste of $ 12!

My wife is Peruvian(Lima Peru). So of course where ever we go she has to find all the Peruvian restaurants in the area. Just moved to Suwanee/Duluth area. This is a food court shop in an Assi Asian grocery store. Assi is a bad smelling horrible place. But this is the Gem. Now we go at least three times a week. Can’t beat the prices and the portions are always too big and I can never finish it all. The food is authentic according to my wife. I wouldn’t know. But I love the Lomo and the Tallarines Verdes y Bistec(steak with basil spaghetti) is to die for. Try the traditional breakfast on the weekends too. The owner and staff treat us like family and we always have a good time. I just need to learn to speak Spanish.

Found Mostro Burger thru Unilocal, and was impressed by the good reviews. I didn’t realize it was in a food court, but that didn’t turn me off. I ordered the Mostro Burger. It’s a big burger, interesting toppings. The meat was ok. The sloppiness of the burger didn’t scare me. Overall, I’d give 3 out 5 stars. We also ordered the Cuban. It was gross! The ham was ok but the meat that was also included was rock hard(over cooked). It was so hard I thought it was a bone. It was also drenched with mustard and mayo. Eat at your own risk. One of my kids had chicken strips. They came as advertised. You’re run of the mill fried chicken strips. The other kid had the salchipappas(hot dogs on top of fries). Again, gross. The hot dogs were over cooked and tasted yucky(I can’t explain it any other way). I so wanted to like a Peruvian burger joint. Unfortunately, this place doesn’t deliver.

Inside the Plaza. Unassuming, friendly, linguistically authentic, good prices and decent food.

Got a new job in the area and found Mostro Burger online. The lunch specials are pretty good. For around 6.99 you get a large bowl of soup(typically chicken noodle), a drink(I always choose Inka Cola), and the entrée. The entrée I had most recently was Bistec a lo Pobre, which was a thin steak served with fries, rice topped by a fried egg, fried bananas, and a small salad. I was very pleased at the meal’s portions and authenticity. The environment is in a large Hispanic/Oriental Grocery store which isn’t very desirable, but the small staff are wonderful ladies who reciprocate your kindness 5-fold. I’d go every day if I could afford it haha.

I’ve been searching for some delicious Lomo Saltado ever since I visited Peru some years ago. The search is over. The food here is amazing and the service is wonderful. As other reviewers have commented, it does help if you can speak a little Spanish. I’ve made this one of my go-to lunch spots. The food is made fresh to order and always comes out hot and tasty.

Had the lomo saltado here — excellent flavor and great portion. The folks who own this stand are very proud of the food and also offer some specials on the weekend. I would definitely recommend checking this place out.

I choose to eat at Mostro Burger during my Saturday lunch UYE yesterday and absolutely loved my meal. I ordered lomo salt ado, which is what I always get the few times that I have had the pleasure of eating Peruvian fare. The service here is warm and friendly. If you speak little Spanish, there may be a slight communication barrier, but I see that they really try to find alternative ways to convey what they mean/understand their clients. The portion was tremendous and I ended up wrapping up more than half of it. Score! I get lomo saltado for another meal! I also wanted to save some room for my belly, as Jose O. was eying the rice pudding, which then got me wondering what it was like. I went back to grab a bottle of water(I was wondering why I felt so parched – I hadn’t gotten anything to drink) and the rice pudding from the fridge with the see-through door. I paid for everything and my total came up to $ 23-something. I was slightly perplexed, because the price of the entrée was on the menu overhead and no matter how I did the calculation in my head, I couldn’t get the rice pudding served in a clear plastic cup and 16.9-oz. bottle of water to equal anything more than $ 8. Still should have put me under 20 bucks. I asked for a break-down of the bill and clarified that I was only paying for my lomo saltado(William G. also ordered this and it seemed to me that they were charging me for 2). Anyway, in an attempt to not make a scene and seeing how nice the ladies were treating me(they were over the moon to know that they could talk to me in Spanish), I paid. Our group stayed for quite some time, as we exchanged current events and jokes. Towards the end of this, a woman who was not there when I ordered/paid for my food came to my table with the one who rung me up. She explained that there had been a mistake and I was charged $ 10 extra. She gave me the money back in cash(even though I paid with my debit card). The cashier was so embarrassed and apologized at least 5 times. I told her to not worry, that we are all humans and it was not a big deal at all. So not only was the food good, the people there are honest. Just a tip: if you are unsure about the total, try to get an explanation, especially if you will not be around long enough for someone to figure out the mistake. Due to the language differences(if you don’t speak Spanish), I would suggest that maybe you get the prices for everything before paying. If I had asked how much the water and dessert were, maybe the situation could have been avoided. I am in no way dissing this place; in fact, according to a Jose O., Mostro Burger is one of the oldest surviving eating establishment in Duluth’s Assi food court. So I still give them my stamp of approval and encourage you to try out this non-Asian gem in this increasingly Asian area of metro Atlanta.

I’ve been trying out the different vendors at the food court in Assi and this place is really good, try the chicken dish with gravy and rice(just ask the lady for pollo with soup). Also had a fresh papaya shake which was amazing. The owners are very nice and had me try some items while I was waiting.
