I liked the donuts, but they’re awfully sweet and I didn’t stop for one very often. My biggest disappointment was when I stopped here my first time. See, every Friday morning, I stop and pick up donuts for my crew at the office. I try to time it so I get to work by 8:00 a.m., like many other people. I was shocked to find that a donut shoppe doesn’t open until 8:00 a.m. If Krispy Kreme didn’t open until 8:00 a.m., they too would go out of business. I think the big failure of Fractured Prune’s business model is that they don’t open early so that folks going to work can pick up donuts on the way. Only the later crowd who gets to work after 9:00 or so can really take the time to stop and get donuts after 8:00 a.m.

I tried to call the store to place an order, but there was nothing but busy tone. So I stopped by anyway. There is a paper over the hours of operation and no one was there. Out of business?

HOT, gourmet doughnuts on the 606! Hard to beat? Well, the location is on the ‘going home’ side of 606 combined with horrible morning traffic pretty much rule this out as a quick morning stop on the way to work — so sad. The place is cozy and features great coffee and coffee drinks along with fresh bagel and breakfast sandwiches. Service is slow, but friendly and thoughtful. You get a free doughnut on your first visit — something about a hot doughnut that is seriously addictive. You can get your choice of toppings or take suggestions from their menu. I was in a hurry and could not fully enjoy the experience but I think that if one had time for a leisurely cup of joe and conversation, this would be THE place in an otherwise sterile suburban environment. If you are hurried, it is not a good place to stop unfortunately I wish them well and plan on stopping off for a leisurely breakfast soon.

One of the co-owners of the Fractured Prune emailed me and thanked me for my feedback. She wrote that she was out of town on a family emergency and the other co-owner was out of town on military reserve duty. She plans to use my comments for training her employees, and she assured me that my experience was unusual due to both owners being out of town. I’ll leave my rating at 3-stars for now, but we’ll go back again sometime to reevaluate.

Okay you know what, all of the staff members are eager to help except the ditzy b! tch with the bad bleach job at the register. Total turn off: 30 seconds of your alarmingly rude attitude and I turned and walked right back out the door. Buffer star for when I come back when it’s not your shift. Holy crap you have awful customer service skills. And damn, why couldn’t the other staff hovering nearby over zero customers be bothered to step up and make nice? Basic principles of good business, hellooooo? I was annoyed when you reduced your hours but relieved when you closed.

My wife picked up some of these yummy donuts and dropped them off at my office. We all enjoyed them. If you want to get ahead in your career, bring a box of these donuts to work and share them with your co-workers and your boss.

I don’t know… maybe we hit them on a bad day but we ended up not being all that impressed. We were going to get just one doughnut each but we couldn’t decide on one — they all sounded so good. So, we gave in and got a half dozen. We brought them home and they were ok. The next day — not so great. In fact, my husband ended up eating one of mine – the one with maple glaze. When I asked him why he did that, he said he couldn’t tell one doughnut from another and besides, he couldn’t taste any maple flavor! So much for that! Despite all that, I’d be willing to try them again but will only get one and eat it on site. I suspect they’re at their very best that way…

After Phở for lunch, I was inspired by Jeff to have dessert after Phở — which I’ve never done before. But, there was no ice cream in sight — but there is the Fractured Prune! I walked in and ordered one of the«Banana Nut Bread» donuts — which has a banana glaze, cinnamon & sugar, and chopped peanuts. After ordering, I suddenly realized I was stuffed from lunch and really did not need the dessert — but it was to late. I got the donut to go — but then when I got in the car — I could smell it — and knowing that it would not be nearly as good re-heated later — I acquiesced. The donut was calling out to me, craving to be eaten. And so I obliged. I obliterated that donut. I destroyed it. Or as in those TV commercials for«Psych,»: «I taught that donut a lesson!» Excellent donut! Hot, lightly crispy, rich, sweet, and tasty!

Just like the Vienna location, this place is incredible. Donuts are hot and fresh when you order them and you get a free donut if you are a first time customer. It seems like everyone they hire is truly enthusiastic about donuts and beverages that they sell. You will rarely encounter another retailer or restaurant with such cheery people!
