The kinetic energy of the classes offered at True Balance Karate immediately draws you in. Their non-stop movement keeps your child moving and motivated. Having learned about the classes through my son’s schoolmate, we decided to try it out. They offer a free trial session with one on one instruction — along with the sales pitch. Although there is either a twelve or six month commitment(30 day cxl policy I believe), the rates are comparable to gym classes we’ve attended at a non-park district gym. And, unlike the gym, the schedule is open… you don’t lose classes. The instructors are energetic and well qualified. The space is bright, clean, well-maintained. I especially appreciate the emphasis on respect, personal responsibility, and general character development. The only downside is a factor of their open schedule policy… you don’t sign up for a particular class time… you are open to taking any class at your level each week(up to 2 per week), so some classes get pretty full… otherwise… Love the high energy… recommended for sure.

My kids wanted to try karate and I remembered an encounter we had with True Balance Karate at Rotary Fest almost 2 years ago, so I decided to check them out. I am sincerely impressed with TBK and with the skills my children are learning here. There is a husband and wife team who run TBK and the Helsdons are really the nicest people you could ever meet. They know how to keep the kids in line, but they also know how to be encouraging and loving. My daughter is only 4, but they help teach her karate on her level and keep encouraging her to improve. My kids love going to karate and I’m so happy that they are gaining confidence from their classes. Try TBK and you will not be disappointed.

My 9 y/o son began practicing karate at TBK in December 2012. He’s not a particularly athletic kid, but the Helsdons(owners) have brought out the very best in him. He LOVES karate and has a tremendous amount of pride in his accomplishments. My 6 y/o daughter and I have felt so at home during practices, we both just started classes, and we love it too! It’s a great workout, and you can’t beat the family-friendly atmosphere. I can’t imagine a more supportive, skilled team.
