Gorgeous vineyard with the most lovely grounds for strolling and picnicking. A nice little tour and I liked that you could do flights of tastings. Only issue was the pours were so tiny you ended up paying the price of a full glass for about a half glass of wine at most. Could have just been our bartender though. Cute retail area and great location. I’ll be back!

We came here one day for a tour and tasting. The tour we okay. I was hoping we’d be able to walk the actual vineyard but they just take you around to look at the machines and watch a brief video about how wine is made and then there’s a display about the guys who started the place. Our tour guide was kind of flat but I guess if you’re doing this tour every hour all day long it can get pretty boring. The tasting was great though because my group liked white wines so she bypassed the Reds and just gave us a few different whites that weren’t on the original list for wine tasting. We got a couple bottles and had a picnic on the grounds. There were a bunch of picnic tables and the landscape was beautiful. We sat by the lake but I’m sure you could find a place on the grass or there are tables near the tasting room too. Overall a great way to spend an afternoon!

Terrible service, management was snobby. Had better wine out of a box. Don’t waste your time.

LOVELY property and delicious restaurant. We ate the veggie risotto and it was fantastic. We attended yesterday for Spring Fling and although it was freezing outside so outside vendors and bands were cancelled by midday, the winery tried to make things fun indoors with large, well staffed tasting room. Very nice employees with great product knowledge. Broad selection of dry reds and whiles. Limited sweet wine options… maybe that could be expanded in future?(Fingers crossed).

We ate at the restaurant and tasted a red and white flight during dinner. One of the best value meals and romantic settings you will find. We like tasting in the winter to avoid crowds and drunken bachelorette parties, so we sort of had the patio dining to ourselves. Whole meal for 2 including the tasting was only $ 79. One point of confusion is the Hampton Inn is not on site even though it is branded with the vineyard name. It is two miles away.

Wow, talk about hype and overpriced. The restaraunt is really nice and cozy. The shrimp appetizers were really good. However, the rabbit entrée was dry, tough and chewy. I expected it to be braissed, but it was just baked. Boring. For $ 40 a plate, I would expect a little more flavor. Still a nice place to go to impress a date.

The staff at this winery needs some customer service training. Rude and condescending at best. I will think twice before recommending someone go there. The restaurant staff was better and the food was delicious, even though our waitress seemed too hurried and dud the remember several items. I was told by someone who overheard my conversation with a friend that I should talk to yo «Angie» but why should I have to talk to anyone about basic customer service?

So wineries in North Carolina usually don’t get a lot of love from me, perhaps it is because I am much more an old world kind of wine guy. Give me a pinot from Burgundy or a Barolo from Italy and I’m a happy guy. If we are talking about North Carolina wineries I would say Shelton is one of the better ones. I say this because of the variety of styles produced. There is something for every dish or occasion even a Blanc de Blanc sparkling. The tasting room is very spacious one of the larger ones in the state, if not the largest and the setting is very picturesque. There is a restaurant called the Harvest Grill that is able to satisfy for lunch or dinner. The staff are knowledgeable and help make a visit there fun. The most popular wine they produce is their Riesling, a sweeter white wine that is pretty tasty and goes well with seafood, cheese, spicier food, or as we found out one afternoon pretty good by itself on a sunny day. If you get the chance take the short drive top Dobson, NC and check them out.

Great tour and great variety of wines. Dry to sweet wines. Great gift shop. The snow white blend us great snd the dry wines are very smooth. Restaurant on site and great places to relax and enjoy a glass of wine.

Wine tasting here was a lot of fun. The lady pouring for us was very nice and, even with other groups there, was doing great pouring different wines for each group. There is a wide selection of wine, and our pourer even gave us some extra free samples of wine she wanted us to try. Great service! Atmosphere is very relaxing and the tasting room is beautiful.

If you like a little wine and dine buy a wine vineyard this is definitely the place you need to go. The food is amazing here and I love how they change your menu with the seasons instead of the same menu so it’s always something new and different. The view is just breathtaking when you see all the vines just their filled with grapes just beautiful. The staff is amazing and very knowledgeable on their menu on what to recommend yo eat or drink. I got the Philly steak and cheese sub with some soup and fries. I love how the Philly steak and cheese was actual big chunks of prime rib meat instead of some chopped up pieces and the cheese they used was out of this world. The chicken chili was really good I think they should’ve use a little bit more chicken to tell you truth but overall it was really good. I like how the season the fries and you didn’t have to worry about doing it yourself. I would love to visit this place during the summertime to see how much more beautiful it is then it was during winter here.

I write this very disappointed and frustrated. This has been the second time I’ve tried to order a stupid hat and t shirt. Last time one of the items was out of stock and it took a week to let me know. This time I ordered the same thing and was charged 56.00 to ship a 34.00 order and STILL couldn’t get the item in time. Then I was told it would cost an additional 25.00 to get it next day. It’s very obvious you didn’t look at my last name. I used to be a member of the wine club, but nothing was available. This is a sign of lack of customer service. Even though the owners are family, this is no way to treat family or paying customers. Never again, sorry no Christmas card this year and no case order either. I can get service from Napa this year.

This is a wonderful NC winery in the Yadkin Valley with picturesque grounds and is actually the largest estate winery on the eastern seaboard at approximately 200 acres. Visited yesterday for a tour and tasting — Judy our tour and wine guide was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about wine, the Shelton family and the vineyard’s history. Tour unfortunately started a bit late compared to their every half hour schedule, but we weren’t in much of a rush, so it wasn’t a big deal. After the tour, we enjoyed a tasting of many of their varietals, liking two of them enough to bring them home! Tasting/tour here is also very reasonable at $ 5/person. Wish we had been closer to meal time as we would’ve liked to try their restaurant onsite, which appears to do a rather good business.

Went here with my wife as part of a birthday weekend I planned for her. The staff was incredibly nice and sincere during the tour and tasting. You can tell that they really care about what they are doing in addition the grounds are beautiful. I recommend buying a bottle of wine, grabbing a chair and simply relaxing. Heck my wife and I bought 3 bottles so yeah the wine is good too!

We stopped by this vineyard on our way back home to NC from VA. We got there about 20 min before closing and the ladies were nice enough to let us do a tasting. The inside is beautiful, nice gifts to purchase for yourself or friends, and the grounds are beautiful! We will come back when we have more time to enjoy it longer.

We have returned again to the amazing Shelton vineyard. I would recommend tasting some of their fabulous wines(my favorites were the 2009 Merlot & the Oaked Chardonnay) and then heading over to their on-site restaurant Harvest(I will review separately). It’s also a beautiful place to picnic but now that I know Harvest is there I will undoubtedly return!

When I visit Shelton Vineyard, I usually buy a case of their award winning Riesling. It is crisp, sweet, with pears and apples forward in the taste profile. Most of their varietals are well made and worth purchasing. The winery tour is brief, but reasonably priced. The Harvest Grill is expensive, and I found lunch to be undeserving of the $ 30 price. I had the signature crab cakes, and frankly, I make better crab cakes at home. They were small, greasy, and not very flavorful. The rest of the meal was unmemorable. The service was very good however, and the scenery looking out of the restaurant windows is nice. This place exists as a posh venue for ladies to meet and have lunch, while trying to impress each other. The vineyard is a perfect place to visit on a day trip. The grounds are lovely, and well landscaped. The nearby Hampton Inn & Suites is owned by the Shelton family, and is said to be the only hotel in NC with a wine bar.

This was a wonderful day trip: it’s not more than two hours from Charlotte, so it’s easy to leave at lunch and be home by dinner. The grounds are beautiful and the staff are very gracious. We had signed up for the reserve tasting, but the woman in charge let us sample anything we wanted to taste, regardless of whether it was on the menu of that particular event. The tour was brief but detailed and interesting. The Cabernet Sauvignon is very good: a touch sweeter than most, but delicious. The winery’s reputation is generally that its reds are better than its whites, but their Riesling is very nice and their reserve Chardonnay is decent. The number of attendees at today’s tasting was fairly small, but the tour guide informed us that the daily visitor count can reach the hundreds during the summer, so you may want to plan your trip for the colder months!

Shelton was our first stop in wine country today. The grounds are beautiful — great for picnicking. The tasting room and shop are enormous, bright, clean, and inviting. Their rocking chair lineup out front was great. We had a perfectly fine tasting here right as they opened. If we hadn’t had such phenomenal experiences later in the day, this easily could have been my favorite stop. Definitely check this place out. This winery has helped put North Carolina vineyards on the map, and they should be celebrated for their contribution to the growth and discovery of this region’s wine offerings.
