made us wait 2 hours for 2 burrito’s, so they offered us free chips and salsa, the salsa was burned and black smelled funny, the chips were all smashed in the bag, the burrito’s were ice cold, the restaurant smelled like a public bathroom, they are very racist, against white people, would not recommend to any one!!!

In my opinion, Maria’s has the best Mexican food in Dixon. Their salsa is a bit lack-luster(hence the 4 stars), but I like their food. Authentic and delicious — always my «go to» place for Mexican food in Dixon. The service is always top-notch — chips and salsa always full, as well as the drinks! The waitresses are always friendly, but a good balance of attentiveness but they also leave us alone to enjoy our dinner in semi-privacy. There is evidence(plaques, photos, etc…) of their support for local programs(schools, little league, etc…) — but their display case is a bit out dated and dusty — it could be cleaned up and freshened.

Been eating here for years. Consistently good no matter what. Yummy. I love the colored table cloths and the chips. This place never fails on quality.

It’s really simple, tell them you want the carne asada thick cut which is essentially a custom cut top sirloin marinated and grilled. Best item on the menu. Tender and flavorful.

On our way home read reviews looked ok. It was terrible the rice was dry and the beans had no flavor the Tostada toppings all to the side. I asked about salsa and I got a little thing of salsa and it was terrible tasted like charcoal. Don’t go here place looks and smells bad. The register was so dirty looked broken and old.

It’s always super cold in here, so bring a jacket. The interior isn’t particularly inviting; it’s dark and outdated. Fortunately they just pulled up the nasty green carpet that has been there since I was a baby. What’s unfortunate is that I’m pretty sure they haven’t gotten new menus in many, many years. They’re torn up and not something I want to touch. The service is decent but I have reached the bottom of my drink and then had to wait for quite awhile before it was refilled. The servers aren’t rude but they aren’t super friendly either. As for the food, it’s not bad. The salsa is the best in town – careful, once you start eating it, you won’t be able to stop! The enchiladas are okay, but I like the super burritos best. They’re HUGE and have pretty good flavor.

It’s was sadly that food was cold when I got it and also as chef in training like their was no flavor in the burritos which made me sad, I was disappointed to only taste the rice and the tortilla. For 6.50 which it’s a totally rip off like if I want to spent good money on Mexican food I would go to Vila Corona over in Napa

Lydia and Carla do it again… very tasty shrimp diablo. The salsa is always fresh and is some of the best I have had… and we were VERY lucky to come on a night when Lydia had her home-made flan… this is not a nightly occurence… yum…

Worst Mexican meal ever. Fish tacos and chicken mole enchiladas were tasteless. Go across street to Jalisco and pay less for much better food!

My husband and I just had the WORST expirience at Maria’s! We stopped here for lunch(we are locals) and we noticed that the server was being a bit stingier with the salsa and not refilling my husband’s soda and such. At the end of the meal my husband gave her his card to pay. I had a feeling she was going to put extra charges on our bill so I asked for an itemized receipt and low and behold there were .89, $ 1.00, $ 2.00, $ 2.00 and $ 1.50 in extra charges totaling around $ 10.00! There is no description on there either so we had no idea what she had charged us for! When asked she said REFILLS! On what and why weren’t we told? This place just lost our business! Check your receipts!

I’ve eaten dinner here twice when I stayed nearby. The last time I had the shrimp diablo. It was pretty good, the shrimp was slightly chewy(I’m guessing they don’t thaw them slowly or they were slightly overcooked) but still pretty good. The salsa is what brought me back though. Great smoky salsa! It’s not really spicy at all… there is just something about it… I can eat a whole bowl.

I didn’t get off to a good start here, but that passed. My feeling is that the interior paint job is unpleasant to the eye, especially the majority of the walls being in sponge-painted lavender pink. Oh well. What matters at a restaurant after all is the food, and I found their food to be good. I had cheese enchiladas that were very cheesy and melty(is that even a word?) just the way they should be. The rice was thoroughly cooked and fluffy, the beans were not pasty and greasy, the chips were crisp, and their home made salsa was unlike any other I’ve had before. It was terrific, being thick and having a very rich, sweet, smokey flavour from all the ingredients being roasted at the start. I was told they sell it by the jar if you call and ask for some. I think my taste buds couldn’t do their food full justice because I am congested; but since it had enough flavor to taste good to me even with my sense of taste and small reduced, I feel pretty confidant in concluding that it would be even better if I were’t stuffed up.

I had a coupon for Maria’s and I figure I’ll go ahead and use it! I did not regret my decision of trying out this place. When I walked in, it was different from what I expected. I thought it was going to be like taquerias in Davis where you order upfront and you grab your food. Instead this place has waiter service. The menu seems more authentic than what I am used to. I ordered some pork dish(I can’t remember the name), and my friend ordered a chicken dish. Originally, I wanted the chicken mole but they were out. I did not regret my decision to order the pork dish(I think it was chichinitas? or something?). It comes with your choice of tortilla and there’s rice and beans along with it. The dishes here definitely seems filling. Chips and salsa is also served at each table. The chips were okay, but the salsa was delicious! I love it! We just kept eating it all up! On top of this experience, the staff is here is so nice. I love it. The waitress(I wonder if that’s Maria) was so friendly, I love it. If I am ever in town, I’ll definitely stop by. I don’t really make a trip out to this area too much though.

A bit of history first… there were two Maria’s taco shops, one here and one in Rio Vista(where I discovered the glory of the food). The owner sold the Dixon location to a wonderfully nice mother and son. They’ve kept the same recipes as the original. The location in Rio Vista ha since closed. :( I’m really disappointed that the locals haven’t embraced this place after all these years. Everything here is delicious and reasonably priced. It lacks any sort of ambiance and it appears they’ve decided to rip out the carpet and painted the concrete floors, but if you go out for quality food this shouldn’t matter. As soon as you’re seated you’ll find one of the best reasons to come here… the salsa!!! They do a fantastic job of roasting the peppers and salsa here. Chips are ok, they don’t get in the way at all but they could be better. My favorite dish by far is the shrimp tacos. It’s just shrimp, cabbage, and pico de gallo wrapped in two corn tortillas but wow is it tasty!!! The Chicken Besame mucho is another dish that’s quite tasty, but it is as unhealthy as you can get. :). It’s quite a load and I’ve never finished my plate. The rice and beans are very well made so its hard to order anything that you won’t enjoy. If you’re driving to SF or Sac and get hungry on the drive, pull over and eat here!!! Don’t wait until you get to your destination because you will have missed out on some of the best Mexican food in the Central Valley. I’m paying the $ 5 and getting chips and salsa to go!

I had the lunch fajitas at Maria’s which were about $ 8 and delicious. If you are looking for a fine dining establishment this is not your joint, but if you love good mexican food for cheap prices, you’ve found your hidden gem of a dive. The paint may be peeling, the décor drab, but grab a corona, dip a chip, dive into your meal and get over it! This is good food, good value, and good times.

I’m giving Maria’s four stars based on the service more than the food. The reviews I read said it was authentic, but it didn’t taste very authentic to me, and I eat a lot of Mexican food. My husband ordered the diablo burrito. It was fine and cost about $ 8. I got a super burrito with adobado. Same conclusion, it was fine, but nothing special about the flavor. Where Maria’s really shone was in the service our waitress provided. We have a very picky two-year old who has a dairy allergy and doesn’t like meat. So we ordered him nachos with no cheese and no meat… basically chips with beans. Our waitress suggested we just order a side of beans and then offered to have the cook cut up some steak into tiny pieces and mix it together so that our son wouldn’t know the meat was in there, which is the same thing we do at home. It worked, and he ate his«nachos». I thought this was really going above and beyond for her to even think of doing something like that and we really appreciated it. Awesome service!

YUM. One of the best parts of the meal was the fact that they brought out chips that were warm and crunchy and oh-so-good! Coupled with some bomb salsa! I’m a fan of Mexican food and this place definitely feels and tastes like a real taqueria. Good sized portions and so I only finished half of my burrito… Happy to have it again the next day! Tip: They don’t take credit card for a bill that’s less than $ 10. Just FYI if your party decides to pay separate. But not really a big problem… Don’t know when I will return to this part of Dixon, but some day we’ll meet again Maria’s!
