)I have been to many of these small drive in restaurants in several small towns in California, and most are really good. Dixon Drive In is unfortunately, just average. I’m not going to say anything negative about the condition of the property, because to me, the run down look doesn’t matter to me. It adds to the atmosphere. I will, however, comment on the food. It’s not bad. But… it could be so much better. The burgers are incredibly small. They taste okay, but not memorable. The chicken wings are good, but they are just breaded wings you could fry at home, and are pretty expensive for a place like this. I do like their fries and special sauce. I like them quite a bit actually. The fries are crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside with seasoning on them. And the sauce has a really good flavor to it. Service is hit or miss. Sometimes friendly, sometimes surly. And the food does not come out quickly at all.

Normally we are fans of places like this(try Burgerlicious in Rio Vista). However, I won’t be returning to Dixon Drive In. It was dirty and had limited seating to choose from. So, rather than smell the trash and get grease stains on our clothes we decided to take it home. The food was not even as good as you’d look for from a drive-in type place, which is normal to expect only decent quality, at best… and I happen to love that, actually! As to this, however… If I wanted ill prepared grocery store ingredients I would stay at home.

This should be a star minus minus! We were in Dixon for a funeral. Stopped at this joint cause I like old school and hubby loves shakes. Stood at the window to order. The server had NOIDEAWHATSOEVER of the make up of any of the menus items. Me: how many chicken wings on the 7.00 order of wings and fries? Her: I don’t know. Me: not even a clue? Her: no! Ok what’s on the chicken cordon blue sandwich? Her: I dunno know! Blue cheese? Me: ok what comes with? Her: I dunno know. Is the iced tea flavored? I dunno know. I’m new! Me: what’s on the reds special? Her: I dunno know! We order two small burgers, one everything, one no onions, order fries with special sauce, one chocolate shake and an iced tea. 8.00 plus dollars CASHONLY We sat to wait. Filthy tables. We get called! Both smaller than sliders burgers have onions, the French fries are made from mashed potatoes and the milkshake was made with dry cocoa and spoiled milk. I went up to ask the chef what was in the items I had been curious about and she attacked me verbally for even asking the other questions. She’s new, it’s it’s her first day. You upset her. Me: well… I want a refund on the shake and you put onions on both burgers. Cook: well serves you right! Me: you and your food are pathetic! I want my refund? Her: here bitch! Flinging money at me. All of four dollars. Complacent chef? Poor owners? Deluded patrons!

I want this review to be a wake up call for Dixon Drive In. I will start with the good: First the Milk shakes and fries are great. The Special sauce was thin and didn’t fill the small cup add $.60. Also no options for a Vegetarian outside of fries and shakes. Maybe a grilled cheese would be a good addition? Atmosphere was way gritty. We were there early and the trashes were overflowing obviously not taken out from the night before. The tables were sticky and layers of milkshake droppings on a porous surface really unclean. Paint worn, large weed patch by the parking, and overall just worn. There would be a great opportunity for a themed mural on the side wall but it is blank and boring. Just no love into what could be a really cute place. Please Dixon Drive In fix up your place and show some pride and maybe we will come back.

Since we’ve been waiting for 25 minutes and there’s 2 orders ahead of us still… I’ll leave my review while we wait. The customers ahead of us left without ordering because they waited long enough without being acknowledged. And the employee is rude. Once she took her ear buds out, she could hear what we were ordering. A smile or a «thank you» would have been nice. …still waiting for our food. No orders have been ready since this post was started. We’re no closer to lunch. Just because it’s been here forever, doesn’t mean it should have been.

Good food. Great food. That’s about all this place has to offer. It’s a little place. Cash only. They have the usual burgers, fries, hot dogs, chicken, soda, shakes. So if you come just keep in mind you are there for the food. It’s old so it looks run down. But don’t let that fool you. The food is what matters. Burgers! Seasoned just right. And big. Fries! Crispy and served in a big bag so can share. Shakes. Eh. Sodas. Standard. So if you are a neat freak, or germaphobe, or don’t like dirt, take it home or eat in your car. The tables are gross. But I can over look that and put a jacket down and get my grub on. No indoor seating. The employees can sometimes be moody. But who cares. Like I said I’m there for the food. Prices-cheap! Old school-CASH ONLY!

I’m here getting shakes, chocolate and Oreo, with my daughter. The chocolate is just OK, but the Oreo is pretty good. The menu is pretty typical, burgers, fries, hot dogs, with a few additional items thrown in. The prices seem decent, but we didn’t get any food today. The slush machine is out of order today and they weren’t doing dipped cones, but there are plenty of other choices. It seems like the lady makes everything to order, so be prepared to wait a little bit.

Dixon Drive-In, or Frosty’s, is somewhere you have to go, whether you are from town or not. Great burgers, great shakes, and great fries. If you get a soda you can get it flavored. Cherry, vanilla, or both if you are feeling dangerous. Definitely get a side of special sauce for your fries. You won’t regret it. There’s not a lot of seating, and the tables get a bit yucky, so just be prepared… Or eat in the car.

This place is like a piece of history, It is not one of those 50’s memorabilia decked out fast food burger joints trying to replicate the 50’s, It IS the 50’s. If memory serves me right it has been around since either the 40’s or 50’s, point being, a LONG time! It can look a little dirty but if you are willing to just suck it up and eat the food in an unbiased manner, it is pretty awesome, Their burgers are absolutely delicious. One of the best milkshakes Iv’e ever had, Their strawberry shakes with Fresh bananas in it, it is just perfection. They have great slushies, and use shaved ice for the ice in their sodas, I will usually after finishing my coke, Go by a can of Dr. Pepper, and Root Beer, and poor it into the cup, it’s like the ice never melts I swear, I used that same cup of ice to drink two cans of soda I bought from walmarts vending machine and the ice didn’t melt on a drive all the way to antelope ca(about 50 minutes away) I swear it is the never ending ice! Anyway fries are delicious, especially when secret sauce is it’s side kick. If you live in Solano county, Or making a trip to Sacramento/reno/tahoe from the bay area, or vice versa, I would definitely urge you to stop at this place, THATIS if the hours are right for it. Now what I mean about the hours is that they are only open on weekdays and close at either 5:30 or 6:30 If memory serves me right. So the Pro’s: GREAT burgers, GREAT Fries, GREAT Shakes, GREAT slushies, Affordable Prices, Never ending Ice! The Con’s: Can look a little dirty which freaks some people out, it’s just got a greasy burger shack look to it. If you don’t like eating outside or in your car, and aren’t planning on getting something to take home, Maybe it’s not the place for you, There are out door benches, But Dixon CA gets pretty hot in the summer, and you may need to deal with some flies, like eating outside anywhere.

Old Fashion Burger and a malt. As awesome as it was 30 years ago. Skip all the corporate joints right at the freeway exits. This place is well worth the 2 minute drive into town.
