Great new location. I did not get a chance to try the last location but this one is really nice. Got there on a late Fall afternoon and was greeted by a very friendly person behind the bar. We ordered a couple of fantastic cocktails and sat outside at a table on the patio with a great view of a cool building, sorry forgot what it was. I like this place as they have great cocktails, not to expensive, not to loud and the guys there really seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Pricey drinks but tasty and doing the job because I’m good and buzzed! Dim, candle light ambiance :) warm and fuzzy. Loving it!

I’ve always loved this spot and glad the fine people at The Keep took it over and improved it! These cocktails are artfully thought out and crafted without the gouge prices of sugarhouse or other cocktail places. Dim lighting makes it perfect for a sultry mood, or if you’re just trying to hook up with an ugo. Laid back, and great energy around this place. Dance parties in the basement make it a great spot to hit up on the weekend.

Awesome cocktails. I had the vodka swizzle. It was sweet and delicious and lovely. The atmosphere is small, dark, and cozy. From what I hear their happy hour is the shit. Oh and they played good music. Will definitely be returning.

If you like well done craft cocktails and a great atmosphere stop being lazy and get your buns in here! The Keep moved over by check bar downtown and took over the old cigar bar. Great move, great drinks, great staff.

Really loved the atmosphere, in a wonderful place. The owner is very hospitable. The drinks are around 8 – 12 $. Definitely worth it. The bartenders take their time to make the drinks right. Its a very hip yet classy bar. Very excited to see what the owner had in store for his club. Its place you can go to have a drink and chat with people.

Very cool speakeasy appeal. Dark… like super dark, like bring your sidepiece or just secret lover dark. There are also cozy cubbyhole booths with wooden barrel-like tables complete with the old school red candle jar. Small bar, maybe 6 or so people can sit at it, plus a few tables. There are a couple of big screen tvs on the walls, with nothing much playing on them. The menu consisted of craft cocktails(with craft cocktail prices) and wine and such. There is a midnight special, which is literally a special… sold after midnight. Not just a drink called«midnight special» ha! It’s a sexy(underground, dark, mysterious), yet trendy(craft cocktails are all the rage now). I’d definitely tell people about it, and would even go back to check it out again. Our service was good! The music was good, too(laid back and chill, just like the environment)!

The Keep is just getting their legs in the Detroit bar scene, as the bartender explained to me, they apparently aren’t even technically fully open yet? Not sure what that means as they were open enough for me to wander in and have a drink! It’s small, and dark. Really dark. «Perfect dark,» as a friend describes it. The vibe feels romantic to me, more than speakeasy, but I guess it’s a bit of that as well. When you’re in the Keep you feel like you are somewhere exclusive… someplace away from the Detroit streets above it… in another little world… and I love it. Their specialty cocktail creations will run you $ 7 – 10 and, while I haven’t tried them all(yet) they all look great. They have a full selection of liquors, a modest beer selection, and only two simple wines — house red, and house white. As they get moving I’m looking forward to more streamlined service, when I was there all tables had to walk up to the bar for their drink order, then they bring them to you. Likewise to cash out. You can order any of the food from the Tokyo Club upstairs and have it brought down to eat in the Keep, which is nice, and the upstairs in turn serves the Keep’s cocktails. I can see myself coming here more… there’s no place else like it in Detroit right now. I’m looking forward to working my way through that cocktail menu, and having myself some more great times at the Keep. :)

Great bar! I stumbled in after dinner one night while at Tokyo Club. I appreciate the quaint, easy atmosphere that offers sophisticated cocktails without the pressures of being at a strict beat-you-over-the-head craft bar. Perfect date spot… intimate, candlelit, sexy drinks and relaxed! The owners/operators, Evan & Leonard, are cool. I’m definitely a loyal patron!

Stopped into The Keep on a Saturday night and overall had some mixed reviews. It is located in the basement of the Tokyo Club. It has the total vibe of an actual speakeasy. Very dark inside with candles at each table. It is small inside so I wouldn’t recommend if you’re with a large group. It is also very«chill» inside, so I also wouldn’t recommend if you’re with a rowdy group. The drinks are pretty pricey, I had a glass of house red which was $ 8. They have some«craft» cocktails which will run you about $ 11-$ 12, but that seems to be the going rate for craft cocktails. A few drinks we tried to order, even bottled beer, they were out of which was disappointing. I don’t think they anticipated being busy. But this is a kink I’m sure they can work out. Our server was pretty bold, I don’t think he was a fan of my group. He called us out for being rude, which I don’t think we were. I’m cautious about my demeanor when I am being waited on especially because I worked in the industry for years. I think my friends were a bit agitated that everything they ordered they were out of, but not rude. I would classify this as a total hipster joint or possibly a place you would come to share a drink with fellow classmates and talk about your dissertation ;)

I would give 2.5 stars. On their cocktail menu there were ten options. They were out of at least one ingredient for six of these ten. Two of these six could have been replaced with something similar. Therefore, four of ten cocktails were not available on Saturday night. I thought it was just that night but I heard complaints from other customers that this bar always lacks inventory. The place is very cozy and relaxing. Evan is very friendly; I cannot say the same for Leonard. The cocktails I had were above average. My first cocktail was made with Makers Mark and it ended up tasting only of MM. I couldn’t taste any other ingredient. Evan did make a tasty new cucumber cocktail when he saw that they were out of all the other cocktails we wanted. I will definitely give it another shot later in the year when they will be, hopefully, fully ready for their business. It has great potential especially for Detroit. Good luck!
