This is a great place for a seriously decadent brunch. The Very Berry Stuffed French Toast was pretty yummy. Plan for a long wait though, especially on a weekend. This place is hoppin’!

We stopped in at the Hudson Café for breakfast this morning. Our waitress, Shawn, was a doll. I had the gluten free Very Berry French Toast — it was simply decadent. As someone with dietary restrictions who often is stuck ordering eggs and meat at breakfast, this was a real treat! My husband had crepes with Gouda and ham and couldn’t say enough about them. All in all, a wonderful way to start the morning!

This place is awesome. The service was great and the portions are huge and a great value considering the area. I ordered the omelet and didnt realize it came with pancakes as well. I would recommend this spot to anyone.

The Hudson Café has been on my radar for a breakfast/lunch place because I’ve been looking into new places to try. This place definitely did not disappoint based on the raving reviews. Our party of 2 visited on Saturday at 11 am(prime breakfast/lunch time) and sure enough, there was already a long waiting list of ~ 1 hour. There is small sitting area with a drinks bar and bakery for you to peruse while waiting. There is an outside sitting area as well, which serves as additional seats for waiting vs. table service. There is a Nike Store next door and a Moosejaw the next block so browsing the racks made the wait time pass by. I always dread venturing downtown to eat because of the limited parking and paying crazy $ to park. There is a 1 hour street parking across from The Hudson Café and there is a parking garage around the corner which you can get validation from the restaurant. FOOD: you definitely will not go home hungry after eating at The Hudson Café(the portion is just out of this world!) My corned beef hash came with a side of fruits(alt: grits or fries). Thumbs up! The beef was not salty. I got poached eggs(eggs prepared any way you want) with my corned beef and it was poached perfectly. We also got the Baja Omelette because previous Unilocal pictures of the guacamole on the omelette sold us. We were not disappointment. The sweet potato fries which we subbed for was very tasty as well. There was no substitution charge for the sweet potato fries either when we got our final bill. Definitely a welcomed surprise because some people(like me) just prefers sweet potato above all other sides…(am I right?!?) Good place. Good food. Worth a visit.

Menu was very extensive Oreo and Cinnabon pancakes! Didn’t know what to get! Asked the waitress she said Cinnabon pancakes, so I got the portabella omlette with potatoes and a side of Cinnabon pancakes! They didn’t need syrup, scrumptious! Omlette was ok didn’t taste the cheese! Overall ok!

The wait is finally over, one thing checked off the list… The Hudson Café. This place is great, I want to come weekly, but that won’t happen! First the space was so much larger than I had imagined. The murals on the walls are very cool and the design is just really nice. But let’s talk about the important stuff: food! Holy deliciousness. I used to love corned beef hash but haven’t had it much since moving to Michigan because no one seems to have it on their menu. I walked by a table who had it and I knew immediately what I was ordering. This was the deal deal, actually shredded beef with potatoes, served with eggs, potatoes or grits and toast or pancakes. Yes, you read that correctly, all of that comes in one meal. It was seriously enough food for 3 people! Since they also have gluten free pancakes I picked those as my side. When this food comes out I am wondering how many others will be joining us? It’s sooooo much food! But it was so dang delicious. The hash was simply the best I’ve ever had. The gf pancakes were actually light and fluffy. Everything we had was amazing. I would definitely share next time because it’s too much food for one person but great to try a few things!

A great place to eat breakfast. The set up was really cool and trendy with some awesome art on display. The food was really good. I ordered the catfish waffles and felt that both the waffle and the catfish came out tasting very good. I’ll definitely be back in the future to try some other menu items. The price of the menu items wasn’t too bad either.

Food is amazing however service was really slow. Would’ve given 5 stars had waitstaff been more accommodating and food didn’t take so long. Ordered the graham French toast which is a must try! Very rich however so yummy. Also ordered traditional with home fries and corn beef hash both were delish!

I LOVE breakfast and brunch, and I’ve had this place on my list for a LONG time. On Mother’s Day, I finally got my first taste! With tickets to a 1pm Tiger game, plus Mother’s Day, and it being Sunday, we decided to arrive around 10:30am and take our chances on making the game on time. Yes, there was a crowd. Yes, there was an hour’s wait time. You were warned. Expect it and plan ahead. Don’t get all pissy(especially if you’re treating your mother on Mother’s Day — you know who you are!). We decided to walk down to Campus Martius and see the«sandbox» and check out The Swings in Cadillac Square. We had plenty of time to walk around, enjoy the morning, and still be seated in time for a great breakfast before the game. The menu on Mother’s Day was limited, and a dish I wanted to try wasn’t available, so instead of ordering 3 entrees(yes, that was the plan) and taking a ton of food home, I ordered 2 entrees, the Voodoo Benedict and Red Velvet Pancakes. My son ordered Catfish and Waffles, and we split the pancakes — not only between ourselves, but also gave a healthy sample to the awesome family sitting next to us, so they could try them too. DELICIOUS and we still took some home! The other reviewers weren’t kidding when they said how sweet the filling is, but they were still REALLY good. The Voodoo was truly one of the most delicious dishes I have ever eaten in my life — the ranchero sauce, the PERFECTLY poached eggs, the cheese, the corn cake, YUM! just freaking YUM! I managed to snag a bite of catfish and it was juicy, perfectly prepared, and tasty — not too much breading. Waffles were fluffy and tasty too. Erin was our server and she was outstanding! Friendly, great with recommendations, knowledgeable about all the offerings on the menu, and kept our coffee cups full! I can’t wait to visit again! The dish I didn’t get was the Monte Cristo French Toast, so I will definitely be back to add that to my review as soon as possible. If I could make ONE recommendation — and it has NOTHING to do with the FOOD or the SERVICE, it would be that the waitstaff and bussers could take a page from the local coney island restaurants on turning tables. Once a table was empty, it took a while for it to be cleared and reset. Not sure if it was because they don’t want to carry bus tubs through the restaurant, so they cleared by hand, or what. Just saying if the tables were turned faster, servers would maximize tips, and folks would be seated faster, etc.

The food is awesome! I ordered the graham cracker French toast with scrambled eggs and bacon. It was served hot and fresh. Very tasty! Not too sweet. I also sampled the chicken and waffles. I was a little skeptical at first considering I’m Southern and can really appreciate good fried chicken. However, it was great as well! Our waiter was pleasant and attentive. He even brought the table a sample of a fresh pancake before we ordered our food.

I went to The Hudson Café today, I hadn’t been in a LONG time. Today I went with my mom, and we enjoyed our meals. Mom had the chicken(they were wing dings) and waffles. It was a pretty good portion, not enough to stuff you, but not so little that you need more food. I had the Chicken pesto sandwich. I loved my sandwich, it came on ciabatta bread with mozzarella, spinach and pesto. It came with fries, I chose the sweet potato fries instead of waffle. I didn’t expect to like my sandwich so much, sometimes I mindlessly choose chicken sandwiches thinking it’s the most healthy choice. Now I want to be real, initially, I wanted to get a breakfast-y dish, but they’re expensive(for me) especially considering they aren’t served with sides. You’re looking at $ 10+ for just the French toast or just the waffles. Maybe I’m cheap, but I’m not a fan of nearly $ 20 breakfasts. So I got the sandwich. Glad I did. Also, I like the atmosphere at Hudson. Every time I’ve been, I’ve seen a diverse crowd and the staff are very nice. However, today, our server seemed super preoccupied, she didn’t check on us much, but was still nice. I’ll be back here when I’m feeling fancy and I will have me a breakfast meal!

This is one of my favorite breakfast places in Michigan of all time now. The atmosphere was just amazing the employees were so friendly and all the beautiful graffiti work in artwork of Detroit around the building was just amazing. Took a while for me to decide what I want to get because there’s so many good choices from vegetarian to meet lovers to just someone who wants to eat healthy. I land of going with the triple triple, which is an omelette with sausage, bacon, Swiss cheese and extra cheese. I got a side of bacon just as extra. It was just delicious. The food was downright amazing. This will be one of the places I come to for breakfast when I visit Detroit. I really hoped this place had dinner options but you know I’m OK with just breakfast and lunch.

There are two reasons that I didn’t give The Hudson Café 5 stars. That reason is because our service was much less than impressive. Our waitress was rude, impatient and never came back to refill our water. We also had to wait for about 15 minutes to get seated because none of the workers decided to come to the hostess stand and seat us, even though there were literally three other customers in there at the time. The food is absolutely wonderful, and everyone should go here at least once. I had a very good omelette with turkey, cranberries and other thanksgiving-like foods in it. However weird it sounds, it works and tastes delicious! Overall, my experience here does not make me want to come back often, but the food is worth a once or twice a year trip. Other than that, there are other places that I would like to try more than Hudson Café.

This place is legit. Come hungry. I repeat, come HUNGRY. Affordable brunch with HUGE portions. I am almost upset at how much food they give you because it seems like a lot goes to waste as it is hard to eat a whole plate. Also come prepared to WAIT. It was almost an hour wait at 11:30am and people kept on piling in. Most people it seemed, left becuase the wait was so long, so we actually got seated a lot faster than we thought we would. Overall, we came here because of the Unilocal reviews and I saw that they had Red Velvet pancakes. I am a sucker for pancakes and this place does not mess around with them. My red velvet pancakes came out, 3 high, and about the size of my ass. I kid you not, they were huge. The plate weighed at least 5 lbs and that was with the frosting on the side! The pancakes were very rich, tasted just like red velvet cake and were so close to being perfectly cooked(just a tad overdone in some spots, but that’s to be expected with pancakes that big). The cream cheese frosting was solid. I would love to have had it on a cupcake. But for brunch, it was so sugary and sweet, that I ended up eating most of the pancakes plain because I did not need that added sweetness. I only ate about 25% of my plate and boxed the rest up(gave them to a homeless person as we had a flight to catch). My BF got the chorizo benny and he wasn’t feeling all that well, so he only ate half of his. He said it was pretty good but spicy. Since I don’t eat meat I am unable to give a review and since he was sick and didn’t get a good feel for it, I won’t give a full review on that item. One thing he did eat was the Cheesy Grits. I had never had grits before and they weren’t too bad. They were kind of plain after you ate all the cheese off the top but since I had never had them before, I had no expectations on it. Service was excellent. From the host, to the waitress, to the busser — everyone was super nice and friendly and accomodating. It was actually some of the best service we had during our entire trip to Detroit. Atmosphere was interesting, very open, and they had TVs near the front playing infomercials. They turn and burn tables pretty quickly, but the wait is well worth it!

Ah. Unilocal has steered me in the right direction yet again with The Hudson Café. Came here for brunch before walking over to the auto show a couple months back and I still anticipate my next outting to Detroit so I can come back! The huevos rancheros and the chicken and waffles were excellent! The long wait is definitely a bummer, and the lounge-y seats in the waiting area are often occupied, but at least there is a nice bar for waiting patrons to hang out at in the meanwhile. As long as I don’t have to wait outside in the 10 degree(or worse) Michigan winters, I’m good.

This place is almost always packed for good reason! They have really yummy sounding French toast and pancakes. I ordered veggie crepes, French toast, a veggie omelette, and pancakes to split. We always order so much so we can try the most food. I also ordered a chai tea with a shot of expresso while waiting to be seated which is called a «dirty chai» it’s pretty tasty! The berry French toast has a cream filling that can be heavy and almost impossible to have more than a couple bites so it should be shared with multiple people. I only wish they offered more vegan options like different milk alternatives and vegan cheese I ordered the crêpe without cheese because I don’t eat cheese and I think it would have helped the crêpe a lot if it had cheese on it to hold it together so don’t skip on the cheese if you regularly do eat cheese. The pancakes are thick filling and if you order like we did you will definitely have leftovers.

I was so excited to finally try another new-to-me place in Detroit for brunch! Hudson Café did not disappoint. Even though I had a slight mishap when originally planning to go, the owner righted the situation for me and I know even if he hadn’t, the food would have been just as superb. The wait for this place was outrageous, but I could see why! Being a big fan of poached eggs and benedict, I was thrilled to see an entire section of the menu dedicated to that. I ordered the Baja Benedict which was flavorful, not too heavy and incredibly delicious. it came with a side of cheesy grits(or you can get fruit or potatoes) but the grits were delicious. Not QUITE as rich as they make in the south, but still delicious :) My husband ordered the Strawberry Shortcake French toast which was like heaven on a plate. It wasn’t heavy at all, and the graham crackers dusted on the ends of the bread were so sweet and delicious. The stuffing was sweet(pastry cream or something?) and the strawberries were so fresh. The service was fast, the food delicious and staff polite.

It’s not enough to be the hottest brunch spot in the D. The Hudson Café IS the D! Best breakfast with a great variety. Every single thing on the menu is bursting with flavor, including the fluffiest pancakes you will ever eat. Sweet crepes and delicious omelettes, too! Bacon is nice & crispy. Owner/Chef Tom is involved from the front of the business to the back(kitchen) and everywhere in between. He talks to his customers and welcomes their input. There is a cool artsy/graffiti mural on the wall inside with painted coffee/waffles but also Detroit landmarks. For weekend brunch, expect to wait at least an hour for Hudson Café’s incredible food. The only thing that can make this place better is offering mimosas!!!

I had the Seafood Omelette which was amazing. It had lump crab meat and shrimp. I also added smoked Gouda which was a perfect match. I also had the house potatoes which were really good. I also recommend the chicken wings! Best I’ve had so far. Highly recommended. The wait is well worth it. If it’s holiday I recommended you plan on waiting for at least an hour for a table. Hope this helps guys :)

The wait here on a Saturday morning/afternoon is LONG. Luckily, they were able to get us to a table for six in about half an hour. The menu consists of brunch items and some sandwich, salads and entrees. I have had the Voodoo Benedict before as well as the Red Velvet pancakes. This time, I ordered the Thanksgiving omelette while my eating companions ordered vegetarian crepes, bacon pancakes, Berry and waffles. My omelette wasn’t the most photogenic but it was packed with protein and veggies. I didn’t really get the thanksgiving feel but the omelette put me to sleep afterwards! It came with two sides so I got the cheesy grits and Minh pancakes. I was very full and left with a box of food afterwards. My friends enjoyed their food and we left pretty happy!

The voo doo that Hudson do. My intention was to eat a nice, healthy breakfast… And then I saw the Voo doo. I asked the waitress about and she said it was of their most popular items and I can totally see why. I got it with the potatoes and in hind sight I would have mixed the two together… because that’s how I roll! I definitely recommend this place if you live in Detroit or find your way there to visit. Enjoy.

We had tried once before to get in here, but it was swamped. My husband and I had gotten up early on a chilly Saturday morning and figured we’d give it a shot. This time we were able to walk right in. I was worried it wouldn’t live up to the hype, but we both really enjoyed our breakfast!!! I had the Graham cracker french toast. It was killer! I couldn’t finish it all but I really, REALLY wanted to! The toast wasn’t wet or soggy at all!!! It wasn’t egg covered bread, it was Graham covered. The toast was a cinnamon swirl, and it was topped with a cream cheese sauce(? It wasn’t a sauce… Wasn’t a frosting) and it was really good. My husband had the voodoo Benny. He really enjoyed it and the portion was a very good size!
