Stopped in on Saturday to pick up a chuck roast. After spending three hours walking around in the 90 degree heat, it was a welcome respite to escape to a walk-in refrigerator with an excellent selection of meats and other fine foods. The owner was beyond friendly and told us about the extensive family history of the place. The prices were great and the service was exceptional.

I was in the city getting tickets at the Fisher, and thought I’d mosey over to Supino’s for a pizza to go. Once in the lot at Eastern Market, I spied Embassy Foods. I’m cooking short ribs for a dinner party this weekend and had planned to buy the meat at Costco, but wandered into this store through the plastic cooling barriers(like big vertical blinds) and was met by a butcher — it definitely did not look like a retail establishment. I asked if they had short ribs, and the tall butcher said«definitely» — He took me in the back where he wielded the biggest filet knife I ever saw and trimmed the ribs(about 20″ long) before he took them to the band saw. Finally they looked like short ribs! I paid what I had planned to based on my scouting trip to Costco, but definitely got enough for the upcoming meal plus a few more. Great experience! real old school, the butcher learned everything he knows from the owner. I think the son Barry was in the office. Oh yeah and the pizza was great too, quite a few people eating /getting pizza at 2 :30 on a Wednesday!
