I returned to Detroit for the first time after moving to Albuquerque three years ago. I headed straight to my favorite breakfast spot. Much to my dismay it was no longer Motown Grille. Now I’m upset. But I went in anyway hoping it was just a name change and the food was the same The menu looked the same. My favorite swiss cheese and mushroom omelette was on the menu but when they brought it out I wept. The real Swiss cheese with the holes in it was replaced with imitation Swiss cheese that comes in those cellophane wrappers. The real mushrooms were replaced by canned mushrooms. The buttery whole wheat toast was no more. Instead I got two slices of dry wheat toast. When I mentioned this to the server she said«Sorry.» So if you never ate here when it was Motown Grille then you might like it. But if you did you will be disappointed.

This a classic Detroit diner. I just had a quick breakfast. Service and food were acceptable. Nothing special but if your in the area and hungry this place will do.

Ok, so let me start by saying that this is a classic dinner and I am rating it as such. It’s not fancy, there’s no fuss put into the decorating and the mugs are plastic. Don’t look for avocados, organic anything or brand name coffees. That being said the parts I saw were clean, the cooks work space and utensils looked clean and they had a good menu for being a small space. The server and the cook were both very pleasant. The portions were large and the ingreadents good. No tomatoes that aren’t ripe or yellow/brown lettuce. I got a grilled chicken breast omelet and my two companions got a Belgium waffle and a corned beef omelet. The eggs were all very good, not too wet or dry and tasty along with everything inside. I’m told the waffle was solid and the corned beef delicious. The cook doesn’t like to go off menu but they gave us free grits after forgetting and serving hashbrowns. Overall great breakfast!
