Place opens at 11 so I called at 1105 to place a order to pick up. Guy said it takes ½ hour before they can make food. Are you kidding me, bad business!

Very Disappointed. I made a road trip because my normal haunt is closed for construction. I used to come here years ago when I lived close by. I ordered Gyro Salad and Gyro platter with Greek Fries for extra moolah. Well Greek fries are greasy processed french fries with a little feta sprinkled on them. tzatziki sauce is very thin, with no real substance to it, and this particular batch of lettuce should have been thrown out, Just cheap old bag-o-lettuce with brown tips. The real kicker is the gyro meat is not carved from a traditional gyros tower/cone. Instead it appears to be processed and grilled to warm it up. Ventilation in the place is awful and while its a small cozy place, with 3 – 4 tables, it feels like the vents are not being used. My coat is hanging in the garage as it wreaked of deep fat cooking oil vapors. Prices are high, and quality is very so-so. They will have to improve offerings for me to return. Survey reminded me that the Credit Card machine was broken, and due to the different way they needed to process, they would need to charge me 5% or I could pay cash. Just wondering how that is my fault. Should be an incentive to get it fixed.

Was VERY happy! Food tasted like I remembered from 25 years ago!!! Amazing taste. Food took a while, but the(only) guy working was very nice and kept the conversation going. Happy to see it still in business and putting out the same amazing food. Thank you!!!

Small place right off the side of the road. I’ve see this spot for a years now but never made it in. Very close quarters inside but they do take out which is nice. It’s definitely limited on seating but there are tables outside and a pretty ample parking in the lot. I stopped in around dinner time and placed an order for take out. It was dead so my order was taken right away. They have a good selection of food choices but I was stuck on either the fish and chips or the lamb gyro. I ended up getting the gyro which was pretty tasty along with Greek fries. I though both were good but not quite up to some other options in the area.

Spyro’s Gyros is this tiny spot in a big parking lot of a strip mall in Des Moines. We stopped by here quickly for lunch and was quite happy with the food and the friendly service from owner(he was the only guy who did all the cashier and cooking) . Both of us got the Gyro set for $ 9 each(gyro, fries and rinks) and were quite happy that the food was cooked to order, even though it took some waiting after we placed our order. This made the food tasted hot and fresh and the fries were also seasoned. The place is really small with just a table for 2 – 5 people max in a restaurant. However, if weather permits, you can sit outside at one of their outdoors tables. We did that and it was fine and even better feeling less claustrophobic!

Ordered the fish & chips. Was expecting cod, it was tilapia. I guess I should have asked what kind of fish. Paid $ 13.99. Not worth the money in my opinion. Fries were seasoned nice tho.

I ate here a week ago! I had never had a gyro and I have to say it was good! Fresh and wasn’t made until I ordered it! Reasonably priced and very filling. I will definitely be back!

I’ve been a longtime fan. I was worried when George and his wife sold it, but it’s as delicious as ever! I love the chicken souvalki and my grandson gets cravings for the tzatzki(sp?) sauce and pita triangles.

I have been ordering the Gyros salad since I moved to Des Moines 17 years ago. Over the years it has changed hands 3 times that I can remember, but the recipes have never changed. Until now. We ordered two salads today, which have increased considerably in price. The meat was not the same– it used to be tender strips of meat that you could easily slice with a fork, today it was chopped, overcooked, and tasted like it had been cooked well done and then microwaved. This salad used to come with a healthy amount of feta cheese and kalamata olives, 3 or 4 I believe, he argued with my mom about it and said it didn’t come with it. We had 2 black olives per salad. I am having a hard time understanding why you would change a delicious salad and raise the price while you are at it. I am sad to say that after all these years, my business will be going to someone else. On a positive note the vinaigrette was still delicious, and the salad still had tomato, cucumber, and green pepper, which is why I rated with 2 stars. So sad about lunch today.

Food was just meh. Very greasy and not at all appetizing. If i had one word to describe, edible. $ 7.50 for a single Gyro and nothing else is extremely overpriced for the quality.

YOUHAVEGOTTOBEKIDDINGME! REALLY! I had to read the reviews again to make sure that I had read them correctly. I am just hurt by the mere shaddiness of some places. Frozen gyro meat? Seriously??? Why even do this? My husband and I have been craving a delicious gyro. Our favorite spot in Columbia City has closed down because of the recent car crash into their building. I Unilocaled this place. Since it was close to the house and we were both super hungry, I stopped to pick up our dinner. The prices are crazy high. $ 9 for a gyro, fries and drink SPECIAL. How in the world is that price a special? I digress. I kmow that the meat cam be skimpy in Seattle so I ordered extra meat. When the guy(I guess owner) asked if I wanted one for each sandwich, I wasn’t even thinking when I said yes. I guess I was so hungry my mind didn’t compute«one.» Otherwise, I would have said one what? One slice? One what? I heard the sizzle of the fries being cooked and I walked out to get some air since it was pretty small and stuffy in the place. He gave me my order within 10 minutes and I was homebound. We quickly dug into our meals. The fries were seasoned well and good. I look at my sandwich and wanted to smack the crap out of myself. FROZENMEAT!!! WHAT? Since my husband knows that I am a gyro lover like no other, he knew that something was seriously wrong. I took a bite and was highly upset. I got up and threw that mess in the garbage and cussed my myself clean out. The«one» that the guy(owner) was talking about was one piece of meat. I would have known instantly that it was frozen meat and I would have canceled my owner and left. Frozen gyro meat is bland, spongy and just horrible. Gilbert I have no idea where you have had authentic gyros but to say that this place is authentic is a joke. I have been to Greece and they don’t sell mess like this. As you can tell, I am upset that any owner would think it is ok to sell frozen lamb/beef to represent such a great place like Greece whistling the entire time I was there. Oh did I mention that me and my husband won’t be back.

I used to work close to Des Moines Marina and I’ve been a regular at Spyro’s Gyros. I agree that the food is slightly on the pricier side but the meals here have been consistently good plus the owner is very nice and friendly. Love their gyro platter w fresh greek salad, steak fries, and pita pieces. Good portion size at $ 13 — I usually make two meals out of it.

I have very early memories of my family coming to this place when visiting the marina that’s nearby. It’s so fresh and flavorful. The prices are right and it’s worth every penny. I can honestly say I dot eat hear enough!

Ended up here twice when I just wanted to get off the freeway and wait for traffic to die down. The first time, everywhere else along the way that came up on Unilocal was closed. They were open, the guy there was really nice and we just relaxed at one of the tables outside and enjoyed the nice day. solid gyros and good service.

This place has definitely turned around and improved over the years since my last review. The business hours aren’t unpredictable as they used to be. Good food coming out of a little shack. Gyros, Greek fries, Greek salad — all yummy! They even use real lamb that is well seasoned. Friendly service too. There are booths and a few tables indoors, but on a beautiful nice summer day there’s benches outside, some tables even have umbrellas if you prefer shade. It’s a great bike stop, at least for me. Plenty of parking.

SoOOOO Glad we decided to try out this place! My husband and I came in around 2pm on a Friday. We ordered the Chicken souvlaki, greek fries and calamari… I must say everything was fantastic… however the calamari is definitely THEBESTCALAMARI I have EVERHAD. EVER. They melt in your mouth and are fried to perfection. I’ve been trying to find a good gyro place in the south end for a while and I must say this will definitely be my GOTO place when I’m craving a yummy gyro! If you are not a gyro fan, atleast stop by for the greek fries and calamari… I promise you, you wont be disappointed! ***aside from the food, the owner is super nice! we tried offering a tip at the end of our meal because we were so happy with the food and service and he wouldn’t even take it… we were so shocked that it made us want to come back again even more!*** FIVESTARSERVICEANDFOOD all around!

This place would be four stars if they lower the price and serve rice. I had the lamb platter($ 15). It was good, but not $ 15 good. They served it with fries. It would be over the top if they had Greek rice. The cook says they don’t make any rice at the restaurant. The non-meat portions, such as the salad, was good. But they were stingy with the meat. My friend had a chicken gyro($ 7). I took a bite out of it. And it was good. But again, for $ 7 I expect bigger portions. I would come back here occasionally.
