Good food and service. Little hole in the wall diner but very friendly. Lots of regulars there.

After checking out Jack’s on Saturday morning for brunch, I can honestly say that Jack no longer owns this place. The place was nearly deserted when we arrived which was a bad sign but we decided to give them a chance. There were only 3 people running the entire place. A woman taking oders and waiting tables and taking payments etc… A man doing all of the cooking and I believe their son doing odd jobs and washing dishes I suspect. The menu has a great selection of classic American dishes and the breakfast selections are pretty extensive. Altogether our party had an order of fish n’ chips, chicken fried steak, corned beef hash and the pancake sandwich. The food was edible but nothing stood out as impressive. The salad that came with the fish n’ chips was right out of the bag. Simple iceberg lettuce with tiny slivers of carrot and purple cabbage. The corned beef hash was straight out of the can but that could’ve been a good thing seeing as some of the corned beef hash dishes I’ve had from other places just don’t live up to the hype. If you eat here, get ready to over pay for the pancakes. They charge $ 2.00 each but on the bright side, they were just a bit better than Denny’s. Even with only 3 tables to wait on, the waitress let my coffee cup sit empty more time then it actually had coffee in it. Overall, the food here was just average or below. If you want to get a breakfast with no crowd or wait and you don’t care too much about quality then Jack’s is the place for you but if you put any stock in the ingredients and flavor of your food, best keep looking.

Decent food at a reasonable price and fast service. Definitely will eat here again. Eggs Benedict was better than some more expensive restaurants I’ve been to. Fast and friendly service.

I feel bad for giving them this review. as the owners seemed nice and the food was quick. I had high hopes for this place as it’s very close to my work. I literally could not eat their food. The sauces. The quality of the ingredients. I think this place may cater well to certain group of people. It is cheap. I wouldn’t recommend if you are anything close to a foodie. :(

Pre-packaged breakfast food! Place is SMALL, &HASTOOMANYTABLESFORTHESQUAREFOOTAGE! Food was Aweful! I’ve eaten breakfast at alot of Greasy Diners in my time, & this one ranks at the bottom! The waitresses kept touching the silverware at the end that you put in your mouth, every time she sat a new customer. Never seen her wash her hands after she was cashiering with dirty money, & then touching everybody’s silverware at the wrong end! The place is absolutely FILTHY! The food taste like cheap pre-packaged Crap! DON’T EATHERE! You’ve BEENWARNED! To All you people that give this place a good review, wtf have you been eating? You need to get out more! This place is Aweful!

Good old fashioned style place. Most the people in here are locals. Food is typical but well prepared. Came in for breakfast and had the farmers skillet which was perfectly executed. I will return.

Very much a difference than over three years ago. Customer service much better. The place still needs some upgrades as you can tell the walls haven’t been cleaned in a long time and their 1970 carpet is not appealing at all.

Server is wonderful! She remembered my name after my third visit! She also remembered what I ordered the first time. For the prices you get a great portion and the food is quite tasty. Nice Mom n Pop restaurant. The actual place needs a makeover but there is heart and soul everywhere.

Good hearty and tastey food. The navy bean soup was delicious and homemade and I really liked the halibut burger.

Tasty food. Good home cookin. The service was great despite the full dining room. The country skillet was delicious… Country fried steak, eggs, onions, peppers smothered in country gravy and toast. Only a couple minutes wait to get in. I’ll go again!

A hidden gem! Visiting from Eugene, love to eat local. Delicious, generous portions. Amazing service, small area, 16 people, watching the 1 waitress do it all like a well oiled machine, and she was sweet as pie. Fabulous time.

A small little mom and pop breakfast shop two blocks from the beach. I had breakfast here around 10 on a Monday morning. Short review is a decent neighborhood breakfast joint with great prices.(Full breakfast for about $ 10). Location: small strip mall with vacant stores and a little run down. Food: eggs and sausage were prepared well. Perfectly seasoned. Pancakes though we’re a tad tough, that being said I’m a pancake snob and rarely find a «perfect» pancake. Coffee was good, but the only sweeteners are sugar and sweetnlow. Value: two pancakes with two eggs and four links of sausage came to $ 10.70 with coffee. They added $ 1 for an extra egg. Service: excellent, no waiting for coffee refills. Food came to table hot and within five minutes of ordering. Ambiance: a little run down inside. Plenty of tables. Only a handful of customers. Christian music was being played.(Not there is anything wrong with that.) I didn’t use the bathrooms, so I have no idea about the condition. I’m an out of towner so it’s unlikely I will return, but if I’m in the area looking for breakfast this will be a strong option.

There isn’t a lot to say about Jack’s that hasn’t already been posted. I’ve been here several times and will probably be back several more. Its cheap, usually fast and I haven’t gotten sick eating there. Bottom Line: The Food is 3 stars at best. I always order Bacon and hashbrowns and I always am upset with the fact that bacon is cheap low quality meat and the hasbrowns look like they came from a bag. But you don’t got to Jack’s for the quality food. Thats why its cheap. The Atmosphere is 2 stars at best. It can be pretty gross in their sometimes. The nice part is you can see the kitchen and it doesn’t look like the stains on the walls make it that far. The Service is at least 4 stars. They have always been friendly and its the main reason I come back. Always cheerful and usually on top of things like refills. The Prices are 5 stars.. . Cheap Breakfast goes along way with college kids and everyone else in this economy. Don’t expect high quality products because that’s not what you are paying for. Overall the 3 stars stands. It has its pro’s and con’s. If you are looking for a cheap breakfast place, then be sure to give it a try at least once.

Huge servings, fast service, good food… Me: Eggs Benedict, comes with hashbrowns, tons of hollindaise, monster size slice of ham and hash browns! YUM!!! Eggs poached to perfection, hashbrowns crispy on outside and creamy on the inside! u Mr(Sr): Denver Omelet, REAL mushrooms(not frozen), REAL bell peppers and onions, REAL Cheese oozzing, REAL eggs, stuffed inside, with a side of the previously mentioned delicious hash browns! OH! and he ordered milk(which I hate, and said it was ICECOLD!) Man Baby(Jr): FULL order of French Toast, 4 slices of bacon, 2 eggs over easy(cooked to perfection ~ no snot) Now, nearly famous hash browns!!! And ICECOLDMILK! Mr.(Sr) comment: its alright, you can do better at homee!(well I don’t give a flying frickasie, I didn’t have to cook it, and it was cheap as hell and G OOD!!!) Man Baby(Jr): comment: I will be back, I can afford it, it was good!(I have raised my kids as mini food snobs, my tribe is spoiled I know. I await the hater mates my kids choose, they are in for a dooozie!) I will be back, it’s too close to home and delicious, efficient and affordable to go to multiple visits per month. Decore, well if you got cash to dine out regularly at a beautiful place that has not so good breakfast go ahead! This place is borderline dive, that offers good food and fast service. Go to your fantsy smantsie joints, we will keep this in mind for breakfast for 3 including beverages, for under $ 10 per person!!!(hell, McDee’s is not THAT cheap!)

Our family of four came in at 9am on Sunday and were not impressed with the look of the place. There is a huge mural on the wall with water damage and everything seem like it hadn’t been cleaned recently. I never understand why restaurants don’t paint every couple of years. It isn’t that hard and is pretty cheap… Meg had an omelette that was pretty good. Joe had biscuits and gravy. The gravy was OK but didn’t have much meat in it. Jess and I had meat lovers scrambles. They weren’t really scrambled at all, mostly just layered. Layers were potatoes with ham, bacon strips, sausage link, and then scrambled eggs. The service was good but the food was nothing special. Not super impressed but nothing really bad either.

For artery clogging breakfast items, I would definitely come back again. I was quite pleased with their coffee, and their friendly quick service. Although I found that their special of the day, avocado eggs benedict, was not worth the extra two dollars for the avocado, I would have the regular again. I also really enjoyed their spicy southwestern hashbrowns. —– I’ve been back to Jack’s a few times since my original review, and I had to bump it up a star. Their gut busting gravy has become a «side» to all my boyfriend’s meals here as he likes to slather whatever he is having in it. The coffee is hot, strong and stays fresh in your cup due to the quick service. Although only having been a few times, my boyfriend and I are already recognizable by the weekend staff and are greeted as old friends. There have been one or two order mistakes, but when you bring it up to the staff they immediately rectify the situation by decreasing your bill! I I am so glad to have discovered Jack’s! In an area that is flush with chain diners like Denny’s and IHOP, or expensive options like Anthony’s or Salty’s, Jack’s is a welcome digression.

When the«Lady K» and I lived down the street from Jack’s we used to go here often not because it was great but its was really the only breakfast place around where we could get a cup of coffee and some scramble eggs. Now that we have been gone 9 months, we went back today for breakfast for the same reasons. Things haven’t changed… Ya know what you’re getting the moment you pull up: simple food, nothing culinary, service with a smile. If you’re in the Des Moines neighborhood, drop on in… there’s nothing else. Enjoy!
