Blo Blow Dry Bar

My friend posted a picture of her hair after coming here today and I thought. Hmmm, I’ve never had a blow out and her hair looks gooood. I made an appointment 30 minutes later.
The shop is located right off of 6^th & Locust in the East Village, so parking was kind of a b. I didn’t have to walk THAT far but it did entail some driving around to find a place.
I was warmly greeted and offered wine. YES. When I checkin in on Unilocal I received a free deep condition. YES again.
I like the sleek feminine look and vibe. Also the ginormous sign that says you’re not cheating on your hair dresser. Or hair stylist. Something to that affect. Stella and Dot jewelry was also being sold today at the salon which was a fun plus :)
I picked the pillow talk option– loose waves. I enjoyed my overall experience and my hair looked great.

I had my hair done Monday for family photos Tuesday. I pinned my hair overnight just like the gal instructed, and it looked great. It’s Thursday and I probably could have put dry shampoo in, but my hair still looks good (much better that if I had done it myself). I’m happy with the service and would go again.

I booked a blowout on short notice as I was in the East Village area with some time to kill before an event. Sarah got me right in, was friendly, timely and created a style I absolutely loved! I chose Holly Would and it gave me a huge confidence boost! I appreciated that she asked my preference on back combing before doing so and was gentle with my long, thick hair. Can’t wait to schedule again!

I’ve now been to Blo twice. Each time the staff has been pleasant and they’ve made my hair look great. The product smells great and the style usually lasts for at least a day after. I will definitely be back! Glad to have a service like this in Des Moines. Thanks!

Excellent service! I have thick frizzy hair, and until recently, it was hard to find someone in Iowa who knew how to blow dry it straight. I don’t live there anymore, but go often for business. The stylist was not only professional, but very corteus,

I went to Blo last weekend to get my hair styled for a wedding I was going to. I came with dirty, dry hair since my hair is generally really tough to work with. I wanted curls, and the gal I was with (should have got her name) did a great job! Like I said, my hair has stumped many hair stylists in the past, but this turned out great and didn’t take a ton of time (I’ve been in the chair for 2 hours with all of my thick stubbornly straight hair before). I’ve been to Blo in Austin and Chicago many times before, and in my experience stylists can be hit or miss — so it’s best to give them as many tips for how you like your hair styled up front. All in all, a fantastic addition to Des Moines!

I wanted to love this place but it just didn’t happen. The location is great and décor is adorable. However my blowout itself was not what I have expected from other bars I’ve visited across the country. The stylist finished and my hair looked a mess. Dented poofs from back combing, frizzy flyaways around my face. Not in a state I would even consider walking in public with. When I tried to explain what I didn’t like, she got very uncomfortable and panicky. I knew I had time before my event to fix at home so I finally just said it was ok so I could leave. Once I got home I realized how greasy the products used had left my fine hair and I actually had to restyle it twice that day. Not what I have ever experienced from a blowout before. I would consider returning for another stylist but the products don’t seem worth the attempt.

I was also told several weeks ago in the comment below I would be contacted by the franchise owner. This never happened, like I said previously I rarely complain about poor service experiences. To me this justified the complaint, I initially was not expecting to hear back from this complaint when I was told that I would hear from the owner I was eager to hear an apology. Nothing. All around bad service.

My mother and I visited Blo on opening week, and we were literally «blown away» by the experience. In a very short time, my hair was transformed: from straight and smooth to beachy waves that lasted well into the next day. The staff was corteous, friendly, skilled, and experienced; my stylist shared that she had ten years or so of experience in the business.
The biggest transformation, however, occurred in my mother’s style and overall appearance. Because of age, her hair often appears thin and lifeless, but not after the blow out! Her hair was full of body and texture, which made her look much younger than her 65 years. Whether you are looking for a unique style for a special occasion, or you just want to feel special on a regular day, you should give Blo Blow Dry Bar a try!

We had such a fun girl’s night at Blo. The stylists were very nice and did a great job on all of us. The glass of wine and the great styles were a great way to start our night out!

As a resident in the neighborhood, I was really excited to try a blow out at a different spot. My hairstylist has been doing blow outs on my hair for quite a few years now and I absolutely love them. Their process was a bit different, with them blow drying some of my hair straight before using a round brush, but in the end I had just as much volume as I normally get and it lasted just about as many days.
The staff is friendly, welcoming, and the glass of wine was a great way to end the day. I love having a blow dry bar just down the street for those last minute hair do’s I just don’t have time to schedule in advance or do myself.

Having never had a blowout before, I was surprised that I didn’t leave the salon for over an hour. But the results were worth it! I couldn’t believe how awesome my hair looked the next day! The next time I plan on going out of town, I am definitely scheduling an appointment at Blo!

Eden did my hair and she was very nice and knowledgeable. Even though my hair fell after about 4 hrs (its STUPID humid here right now) I love it still! I opted for the Hollywood. Totally worth the $ 40. Will be back.

Had my hair blown out and styled on opening weekend. I loved everything about it! Staff was super friendly and my stylist did a great job.
My hair is super thick and naturally wavy/​curly, so it can be tricky to blow out. My stylist took her time and did an amazing job! Can’t wait to to go back and try some of the different styles they offer.
This is exactly was Des Moines needed and the East Village is the perfect spot for this trendy salon.

I went to Blo in Des Moines for their opening day and I was really happy with my experience. I expected hiccups as any business would have on opening day, but really things seemed to be running fairly smoothly. My stylist was running a bit behind so another stylist offered to do my shampoo and scalp massage. I was glad because then I got to know two of their employees instead of just one. My hair was straightened and «volumized» (not sure what you’d say?) as I requested so it would look good for an out of town wedding I’m attending tomorrow. The owner checked in on me. The only snag was check-​out took a bit longer, but I think that is because the system can get tricky (I use the same point-​of-​sale system in my business) when you aren’t used to it, especially adding a discount, which they did, for the opening weekend special. I recommend a visit if you want your hair to look nice for photos or a special occasion.
