Since I just did a review for jim and nicks and was not pleased I thought i should also mention the worst ever bbq place i have ever eaten at sam taylors look at all the one star reviews, i agree with them all, can not imagine this place being above one star ever, what could those other people have been thinking that gave it four and five stars??? maybe they ate off a different menu… it needs to be closed and re-opened with new staff and better food, they can keep the«ugly people eat free» sign though 10÷01÷12 The building looks like it is being torn down or maybe renovated, so maybe it will be for teh better

This one is pretty simple … what we have here is a restaurant(or maybe not) disguised as a BBQ joint! STOP — turn around and leave. I am not sure what they are thinking but to have a place that thinks they can do BBQ and then have the Bar-B-Q in the name is wrong. Save your money.

I love me some good BBQ. Sam Taylor, however, doesn’t seem to love good BBQ. Nor is Sam into spending money for quality ingredients, ensuring that food served on his tables are up to any standard, hiring helpful wait staff, or making his restaurant atmosphere friendly. I was lured here by a promise from friends that the food was great. And the marquis said«ugly people eat free.» It was a good start. The atmosphere screams«cheap.» Fine — it’s BBQ. I don’t mind that the walls are ugly and bare, except for a handwritten sign, in sharpie, on 8.5 X 11 that yells«don’t touch the TV.» The wait for food seemed long, but we were hungry. Still on track for 4 stars. But something was amiss with the food. The«Texas toast» was actually a buttered hoagie. It was saturated with butter and thin. Texas toast is thick. This was no Texas toast. And we noticed that one plate had the bottom of the hoagie, while the other had the top. Cheap. The ribs tasted like dirt and manure. That’s not something anyone wants to hear, but imagine that in your mouth. The pulled pork was pretty good. The hot links were actually great. «Sam’s chips» are heavily over-seasoned with cajun salt, and are otherwise run-of-the-mill house-made chips. Do what you want, but next time I think I’ll pass on the chips. The service the night of my visit was nonexistent. I ran out of water early, and it was never refilled. I’ve noticed other reviewers have described the service as «terrible,» and«I had to send up smoke signals.» Awesome. Everywhere else, things are cheap, and corners are cut. For instance, there were no trays or sleeves for the check, so it got soggy when the waitress put it on our table. Which, incidentally, was her only time to check on us after our food was brought out. This is southern-style BBQ, and you’ll notice that all of the reviews from people who have lived in that part of the country are pretty low. Do yourself a favor: go somewhere else for BBQ.

Pretty average, been there once. I am from TX and the brisket here is ok by Denver standards but not acceptable by TX standards. Worst part is they used a meat slicer to slice the brisket so i had a pile of curled up ultra thin slices. Good news is it was like tasty beef jerky the next day. Sauce is nothing special and good brisket should be stand on its own without sauce. Rudy’s in CO Springs is still the only acceptable BBQ brisket in town. But still not as good as the brisket in Lockhart TX.

I’m not the biggest rib fan. But the brisket sandwhich is out of this world and to top that there home made chips with BBQ sauce. You could put the sauce on a hot dog and it would be great

I would drive by this place every time I went my friend’s house. It wouldn’t be open because it was late night. Today I dropped in on my day off and got some ribs. I got there dinner combo with some ribs and brisket. I love it because the meat just off the bone. I usually do not eat the bread that comes with the meal, but the Texas toast was great. The Texas toast wasn’t a large thick piece like you would find at the others restaurants. But, it was long enough that I could put some brisket and fold the ends to make a sandwich with it.

–ate too much– We already planned to order the Big Daddy Family Feast, then my brother had to pile on an order of fried catfish nuggets. The catfish and hot sauce was fun, but the mountain of BBQ was overwhelming. Feeds(4) for $ 40 with a stack of chicken, brisket, ribs, and hot links. We were satisfied and taking leftovers home!

I always knew that if I tried Sam Taylor’s and it was as good as everyone says it would be a problem. I really enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at Sam Taylor’s. It feels more like a home than a traditional down and dirty(in a good way) barbecue joint. The flavor of the different meats is accentuated by actual smoking and I had none of that nasty aftertaste you get from liquid smoke. The consistency of the meats varied with some being tougher and some being fall off the bone perfect. Barbecue is about slow cooking and the end result should never be tough. Overall, the food was very flavorful and for being in Denver it is truly a bright spot to consider when hankering for BBQ. They also have fantastic house made chips. If they made these into a BBQ brisket or pulled pork nachos I would move in.

I’m not a big BBQ eater but the ribs here were really good. I enjoyed the half rack and texas toast as much if not more than most places I’ve ever had the same. The bar tender Kennedy is a talkative, personable individual. Even if our tastes in beer are complete opposites. Will go back again to try something new.

There aren’t enough words to describe what a bad experience I had here. But I shall try anyways. The Good: The coleslaw was quite good. And that is all that was good. The Bad: The food was, otherwise, horrible. Dry and flavorless. And falsely advertised. I order the hickory smoked chicken dinner… to bad it was rotisserie. And it was dry. Have I mentioned that yet? How bone dry it was? And hey, who really cares about that if it tasted good? But it didn’t. It was awful. And those chips? The ones everyone is raving about? Chewy. How yummy, chewy chips. I also ordered the appetizer sampler, in which the catfish was chicken fried(so, disappointing, but not disgusting, I suppose) and the sausage was overly sauced, making it gooey and soggy. And have I mentioned how dry everything was? Oh, yes, my wife also got the pulled pork sandwich which was not only flavorless… but yes, also, very dry. The Ugly: THEWAIT! Oh goodness! The wait for EVERYTHING was hideous! Drinks, ordering and then getting them, our appetizer, our food, our bill! We showed up at 11am, and didn’t get out till 1:30pm! I have never waited at a restaurant for so long, for so little. Conclusion: With its dry and flavorless food, long wait, and expensive prices($ 50 for lunch!) I will never return to Sam Taylor’s ever again! The metro area has SO many other options for BBQ. My suggestion? Go somewhere, anywhere, else than this awful place.

The last time we were at Sam’s, a drunk man walked into the bar and attempted to rob the place with a cell phone. Big mistake! The staff at Sam Taylor’s is rather large and used their muscle to beat that idiot’s ass. Once the drunkard was immobilized and arrested, everyone resumed their business as if nothing happened. I think the Q is solid with good links and decent ribs. The real reason I like to come back is the home made chips. Smothered in bbq sauce, these fried gems are like crack in a basket. Wash down those salty suckers with a tall glass of sweet tea. Oh yeah, and the staff is always wonderful here.

Came back for lunch a few Fridays ago and wanted something«light» but what do you order at a BBQ place that is light? So I tried the salad with hickory smoked chicken. There was nothing special about this, which I liked! It had crispy lettuce, perfectly cooked tender chicken pieces, juicy red tomatoes and cucumbers. They either read my mind or just forgot the croutons but I didn’t need or want them anyway. The salad had enough good flavors! It was a heck of a day for them. They were packed. It was a cool, gloomy day so I think BBQ was in order for a lot of people. We accidentally got a square of their cornbread, I thought it came with the salad so I ate it. But it originally wasn’t for us. Whoops, but man, oh man. Best cornbread I’ve ever had. Piping hot and not dry at all. Yum! My friend ordered the chicken Sammich. It came with lots of sauteed grilled onions and green peppers. Seriously delicious on a hoagie bun and a side of their homemade chips. The waitress was a little flustered but did a great job and we really enjoyed our lunch. Will definitely be back on a cold day. It was a perfect lunch!

Visited this place for the first time today… of course I thought I was starving and yet ended up not able to finish my tasty pulled pork sandwich(which is great with coleslaw right on the meat inside the bread). The food was quick, tasty, and reasonably priced. Homemade chips are nice and crunchy… I’m not convinced I’d go out of my way to eat here again, but I wouldn’t steer away from it either.

I’ve been here once and I love it! The mac and cheese is my favorite. The BBQ has a great flavor. Try the combo plate with a couple different meats. The BBQ Beef brisket is really tasty and very tender.

I was craving BBQ this afternoon so off to Unilocal we went to find a new place to try and Sam Taylor’s had decent reviews so we thought we’d try but I kinda wish we’d gone elsewhere. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad, but I can’t really call it good either. So we pulled up .and my husband commented«hmmm, I wonder if they’re open» it was 6.30pm on a Saturday and there were 2 cars in the parking lot. The interior leaves a lot to be desired but oh well, I can totally overlook blah décor especially when it turns out to be one of those places with amazing food, however, we had so much time to stare at the walls because the server was moving at a snail’s pace. There were only 2 other tables with guests(guess those are the 2 cars in the parking lot!). We finally got menus and eventually ordered a pulled pork sandwich and one of the combo platters with brisket, ribs, mac & cheese and baked beans. The pulled pork was oozing with sauce, way too much sauce, makes me ill now just thinking about it. My husband was kind enough to give me rib(Thanks for the rib Adam – if only my name were Eve!). Again I was saddened to find that the meat was really lacking in flavor, it was just the sauce smothering the rib that I could taste. The mac & cheese was OK, I have a fabulous family recipe that beats theirs, and theirs is super greasy too. Baked beans, average, and the homemade chips, well all I really tasted was oil so I only tried a few. I’m sad to say it wasn’t what I was hoping for. It was«good enough» to cure the hankering for the moment but now I’m feeling the need to go to Kansas City to right the whole situation.

CLOSED. Sadness. Here’s why: in my never-ending quest to find good BBQ, so far Sam Taylor has been the best in Denver. I’m a pulled pork fan above all, so that’s the first thing I try at any barbecue place. Sam’s is excellent. I usually get the sandwich with the cole slaw inside, as is the tradition in some parts of the country. Their meat is very good, the sauce is excellent, and I am a big fan of the homemade chips as well. Other people I’ve eaten there with have raved about the ribs, which are legendary, and the catfish as well. They have the standard BBQ menu with all the favorites and most of the time, Sam himself will come out to say hi during your meal. It’s a family run operation and they take good care of you.

It really deserves a 3 stars but their average is at 4 so I need to do my Unilocal duty. Also, no corn bread w. your meal! Just sad. On the receipt(top to bottom) Service=5 freaken stars. Our food came out promptly and the girl was on point. Very friendly w. out being overly creepy. Baked beans=bush’s baked beans sausage link sammie=piping hot but really good. The roll was soft Tri tip=very soft and just comes off the bone, but way too much bbq sauce brisket=on point, but the bbq sauce was overwhelming hot towels=nice warm and clean.(smelled good. yes, i had to smell it first) Very nice ending touch mac & cheese=bland & cold, but it does have potential sam’s chips=thinly slice potatoes w. their secret seasoning(secret=non-existence) baked beans=tasted exactly like bush’s salad w. bleu cheese dressing=hidden valley dressing(yuck, I know. who goes to a bbq place for salad. shusss!) Total was around $ 28.00 w. a beer. You can’t beat that. This place has tvs and full bar. I would recommend this place just to try and hang out for cheap eats.

Take out/in night this Thursday: Sam’s has the best dry-rubbed chicken I’ve ever had. This was exciting, spicy and flavorful without the sauce. Finger-smacking good. It had the reddish brown meat that is caused from being smoked thoroughly, too. This was the most exciting(unsauced) chicken I’ve had in quite a while. The tips, ribs, and brisket all came with the sauce on it, so I couldn’t taste the dry rub on those meats quite as well. The meat was very good which means tender enough to get off the bone and not dry. It was definitely not cooked in the sauce. You could see the sauce was spooned over it for the to-go order. It was perfect for the brisket sandwich. The sauce is very smokey flavored, but not sweet. It isn’t as spicy as the dry rub, though. For those of you that prefer to taste the sauce first, or just like the dry meat, you should specify that. The menu says you can get it either way. We had sides of green beans and greens that were very good, the green beans being my favorite as they had less salt. Dave liked the greens because they had some red pepper flakes for a mild spicy quality. Also texas toast, so you could make a sandwich. The cornbread I’d call corn cake as it was more flour than corn meal and sweet. We ordered way too much, and I figured $ 50 would serve 6 as we ordered the meat and sides separately. To top it off, the order was ready in ten minutes and it’s ten from our house. It goes great with tea, Coke(not Pepsi!) or beer. Ummm boy.

First of all; I f I could give 0 stars I would. BBQ should be smoked, moist, flavorful, delicious meats and sauce should be an option. The meat should taste great with or without sauce. That said this is not BBQ. This is barbecued meat; roasted and boiled away in sauce resulting in stringy, chewy grossness. My grandmother from IOWA could make better boiled meat. And I was so excited to eat these chips I’ve been hearing about but half of them were under cooked and chewy. How hard is it to fry potatoes, seriously? Chips. Should. Not. Be. Bendy. In addition the service here is absolutely terrible. Food took forever and service is SLOooooW. The worst part is no one seems to care. Everyone has a tough day once in awhile but be aware of what your guests are feeling about your food. Another one bites the dust.
