This place was fine, but there are definitely much better burgers in Denver. The fries were good though. Service was also pretty slow. People who sat down and ordered after us got their food before us. Wouldn’t go back, and wouldn’t recommend to others.

Outstanding burgers! Great fries! Love the poutine. Only complaint: no shakes only floats! But those can be had boozy-style. ;-)

Burgers made with finesse! We ordered the King of the Forest and Medici burgers – both were really delicious. It’s very apparent when you take your first bite that the toppings were well thought-out, because everything in their burgers tastes harmonious. All of this amounts to a great tasting burger. What’s more, the interior of this place is quite unique. The walls are decorated with framed portraits of «royalty,» including Princess Leia, the Fresh Prince of Bel-air and Severus Snape, to name a few. If not for the burgers, I would come back to the Royal just for the ambiance!

We tried the Royal 3 months ago and have it 5 stars for food and service. We’ve become semi-regulars, but after tonight, we highly recommend skipping Royal and going anywhere else, unless you happen to like what may be the worst overall service and poor customer service in Denver. For once we didn’t have to wait to get in– no line, restaurant was ½−¾ occupancy. We placed our order within the first 10 minutes of being there. Then it all fell apart for Royal. No one ever stopped by to refill drinks, to take more drink orders, or to let us know how our order was coming along, even as 30 minutes started moving to 45 minutes. When part of our order came out, we were informed that the rest of our order had been given to another table, and that it would be a while to complete our order. When we asked if the kitchen was short-staffed tonight, the waitperson became defensive, then took rude to a new level with her comments.(And remember, the restaurant at this time was only half-full) When the rest of the order was flung(literally) on our table without so much a «sorry w goofed», we still couldn’t get drunk refills or place any other drink orders. No one checked in with us as to how we were doing or if we needed anything(so at least the service was consistent tonight– consistently bad). The two high notes were that despite Royal taking on a «don’t give a fk» attitude towards the clientele, the burger was still tasty. But the burger isn’t so good that you should put up with bad service and rude help. The other high note. was that it wasn’t just us but other tables were getting the same level of poor-to-nasty service. It’s amazing that in a highly competitive food service environment, this attitude is the new norm for the staff. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. There are many great restaurants in the neighborhood. Let’s let this one pass away and offer the space to someone else.

A fun and funky little burger joint with creative toppings. Really neat décor. I love those chandeliers. The boozy floats are where it’s at!

Great tasting burger! I ordered the Royal Jelly(added bacon) on a GF bun. The burger arrived warm and in a timely manner. The jelly is very flavorful and the bacon was absolutely amazing! As I have celiac, I was unable to order any of their sides as none were safe(their fries are beer battered – «very good» I hear, however). I would return if I were looking for a lighter meal, as, again, I could not order any sides. Very delicious burger.

The food and service is very good. Really enjoyed the salad and fried brussel sprouts that were on the happy hour menu. Two for one local beer… yeah support local! The burgers were good and tasty. I had turkey and my guest had the regular beef. Unless I overlooked it I didn’t see anything about anti biotic free or free range local beef which was a bummer to me. The downside is that the menu is very very small. The limited choices will make it hard to be a spot we would go back to often.

Royal does a few things well, but a little more attention to detail could take this place to another level. My wife and I stopped in after a local barista recommended this place for burgers. Upon entering, we knew this was gonna be a good meal. The eclectic pictures in frames on the wall and a great music playlist gave us a laid back vibe and we felt comfortable from the start. We were seated promptly and the service was good all throughout the meal. The good: happy hour offers 2 for 1 on tap beers, which offer lots of local varieties. The burgers offer a variety of toppings and if you like an adventurous burger — this is the place for you. The beer, mustard, bacon poutine fries are delicious: the perfect amount of umami, richness, and perfectly seasoned crispness on the fries. The root beer on tap is fantastic and has a wintergreen note with a lovely licorice finish. The homemade pickles added the right amount of tang and acidity to my burger. The bad: I ordered the King of the Forest burger, which has fig jelly, balsamic thyme reduction, goat cheese, sautéed mushrooms, lettuce and tomato. Pretty epic except that the sweetness of the fig was overpowering. I added the pickles that thankfully came on the side and it gave the counterpoint needed for all that sweetness. I thought that the toppings were too one note as is and could use some more acidity to cut the sweetness. The biggest offender was that the patty was under seasoned. I was surprised given the composition of the burger and perfectly seasoned fries. If the patty lacks seasoning, it’s tough to have a balanced burger. Overall, I would definitely come back and give this place another try. Be sure to order some fries(or two), but be prepared to fiddle with your burger to get it balanced.

I really like Royal. And I really like their homemade veggie burger made of beets. Their sweet potato fries are the best around. I can’t stop eating them. The only thing that would make Royal better is a wider selection of beer. :-)

I got the Turk with a beef patty. Food came out hot and fresh. Place has a cool vibe. Knew it was going to be legit when I saw the framed picture of Snape in the entry. Will be back for sure.

I like the ambience of this place and have always received good service. The burgers are solid but none that i have tried have been so memorable to make me crave it and bring me back. With so many great burgers in town, I can’t recommend this as one of my favorites but the atmosphere alone will make it a fun experience, just don’t expect a life-changing burger.

Friend and I stopped in for a quick bite today. Nothing quick about it though. We sat there perusing the menu for 12 full minutes. Once we finally ordered, the food took a bit but that’s because it’s made fresh to order. We ordered The King of the Forest with lamb and the French Onion with turkey, no bun. Also had a side salad and a sweet potato with green chili. He had two beers on tap. Everything was delicious. The lamb was so juicy it was a mess. But in the best way. The turkey was full of flavor and not dry. Salad was very small especially for the price. Very disappointing. My sweet potato was pretty good but the green chili lacks flavor even though it packs a punch of spice. It was a confusing visit for sure. I really loved the lamb do we might go back for that. But we’ll make sure we have plenty of time and have a snack prior.

Busy place on a Friday night! It was a hopping crowd but didn’t have to wait long for a table. Loud atmosphere but very cool inside décor. Service was attentive but slow… Granted the place was at maximum capacity. Took a while for our waitress to get to us for a drink order and even longer for the food to come out, but the food was worth it. French fries were fantastic The Heir burgers were delicious We’ll be coming to the Royal again soon

Took a random trip to Denver, Colorado and saw some great reviews for Royal. I ordered the King of the Forest burger along with sweet potato fries. The burger was delicious – cooked just how I like it, medium well. It wasn’t dry and the patty was nice and thick. The buns were lightly toasted as well, which is always a plus! The sweet potato fries were tasty by themselves, or with honey mustard or BBQ sauce(they make their own BBQ sauce – yee!!) Overall, Royal served some great food from an outside of Denver perspective. It was a nice, warm day(about 88 degrees), so the restaurant had the giant sliding door opened, so you can catch a nice breeze from outside and see other stores businesses around the area.

My fiancé says that the Ferdinand’s Conquistador is the best burger he has EVER had. We went there last night(Thursday 8⁄27) and it was so much fun. They have a fun atmosphere, and a very friendly staff. We ordered two sets of fries, the regular fries with one having the House Prepared Pork Green Chili and Cheddar Cheese topping and the other having the Beer-Mustard-Bacon Poutine topping. I REALLY liked the Beer-Mustard one and my fiancé enjoyed the other one more. But either way, you can’t go wrong. Funny thing to us, is I just read Jennifer M’s post about her not enjoying the music, but the whole time we were there we loved every song that came one(90’s goodies) and it brought us back. To us– everything about this place deserves 5 stars.

The burgers here are awesome. What was not amazing was the late 90’s/early aughts bubblebum pop and R&B music that was turned up to instant tinnitus levels the entire time we were there. It was kind of nostalgic hearing KC and Jojo and Destiny’s Child, reliving middle school and all that, but after 20 minutes it was just annoying. Couldn’t really hear anything my husband or our server was saying. The food was so good that I just can’t give them a bad review though. We both got the King of the Forest burger medium rare. I got mine with bacon and my husband got a side of some kind of ‘southern poutine’. It… wasn’t very southern and it wasn’t poutine, but the little I tried was good. We were both very happy with our burgers also. They were perfectly cooked and the toppings were great. I would cover everything in mushrooms if I could though…

We discovered Royal after leaving the Unilocal Elite event at BookBar. There are a lot of good-looking restaurants on Tennyson St., but a burger craving is hard to ignore. We sat in a booth by the front window. We loved the atmosphere– but the first thing that caught my attention was the 90’s music. We’re talking Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, and Nelly. I kept losing my train of thought when a new song came on to inspire nostalgia. Our server, Amanda, was super attentive. She recommended the lemon-poppyseed dressing on our house salad, and she was spot on. I ordered a burger with goat cheese, mushrooms, and fig jam. Amanda went the extra mile to make sure that everything on my burger fit within my dietary restrictions. My burger was flavorful and I’m glad I tried something I wouldn’t normally order(sweet things on supposedly savory meals sometimes doesn’t cut it for me). My husband ordered the turkey burger, and said it was the best turkey burger he’d ever had. I’m guessing the fact that it was topped with bacon probably helped! We will be back! And next time, I’ll be sure to leave room for dessert.

The Royal is very unique and eclectic with avant guarde photography(modern pop art style). The burger joint itself is decorated very beautifully and that gives it a chic/modern feel. The accent wall(behind the bar) is painted a light/baby blue and really compliments the brick and rich blue booths opposite to the wall. There are even various mini chandeliers hanging throughout the establishment. Let’s just say that whoever designed the Royal did a fabulous job communicating their desire to demonstrate some spunk and make it memorable. I went with some friends on a Friday afternoon for lunch and we were able to be seated immediately. We requested a booth by the glass windows. I love how the glass windows can actually slide in both directions, so when they have them open it’s as if you are eating on a patio. To start, I had the Berkeley salad, which was delicious. Next I had the Shepherd, which has a lamb patty, chimmichurri sauce, and goat cheese. Ordering this was a mistake because I did not like it and could only eat a few bites. I ended up trading it with someone and eating the last few bites of their regular cheeseburger. Luckily, patrons are able to choose any cheese on their burgers from the 6 they offer, but unfortunately for me I went with the goat cheese the waitress suggested when I probably shouldn’t have paired it with any cheese in the first place. I think the burger just had too much going on. As someone of Argentinian heritage who grew up eating chimmichurri with basically every meal, I wouldn’t recommend pairing it with lamb or goat cheese. You’ll find that most argentines only pair it with beef. It is never paired with cheese either, as is a sauce for grilled meat. That was my first and last time pairing it with cheese. If the cook would put enough of the sauce on the patty(drench it on there like it’s supposed to be), then people would not need cheese. Also, the lamb patty probably would have been better suited with mint jelly. I think it is important to note that the person I gave my burger to thought it was very good. The fries we paired our food with were delicious. I would recommend the Royal because the experience is awesome. The Royal is in a great location too. I wouldn’t say it is somewhere for a date night because it is pretty casual, but I would recommend it for dining with friends and family.

Went back here for a second try last night and they have totally stepped up their game since the last time we were here. They must have responded to the negative comments and adjusted, which I am very impressed with. We sat at the bar and had a great experience with the bartender. The burger was juicy and tasted great! Service was friendly and fast. The gross tablecloths and small vintage plates are gone. The plates are still small, but a little better than before. The house-made pickles and pickled onions are still amazing. The bartender even gave us a couple to take home since we liked them so much!

5,6…10 stars for the fries. THEFRIES! THEFRIES! Get both of their specialty fries. They are shareable. Ginger Curry Fries and Bacon Poutine fries. You will NOT be disappointed by these. Burgers? Eh… 3 stars. They are fine. Nothing special. AND they don’t ask you how you want the meat cooked? So they all come out well done? And nothing ruins a burger quite like well done. Start asking us how we want them cooked, Royal!
