Really nice atmosphere and location. Food was great! Everything we ordered(oysters, pork, potatoes, turkey sandwich, and fries) was amazing! Service could’ve been a little better.

Underwhelming. Was excited for the tuna and watermelon starter then it came and smelt and tasted like it was sitting out all day. Bison short ribs could have been more tender and the polenta fritters were like hockey pucks. Was hesitant to walk in when the place was practically empty at 7pm on a Friday.

We have always really liked this place on Tennyson and have been surprised by the lackluster reviews and support. Sometimes you walk by and it’s empty inside, other times it is teeming with people. We have been impressed by their signature cocktail list in all the different incarnations since they opened. The oddly 80’s themed cocktail names will go over the heads of most people under 40. One issue that we have had is that we have visited over 10 times and don’t think we have ever had the same bartender twice. Having said that, we have always received great service, and can’t figure out why they can’t seem to keep a consistent staff behind the bar. We’ve been impressed by everything on the menu, from the cured meats to the salads. The restaurant is best enjoyed when the weather is nice and the windows to Tennyson are wide open.

The food here is ok. Although, the reason for coming back is the Blueberry Donut. Unfortunately, the last time we went the Blueberry Donut is no longer on the menu. It was by far the best desert we’ve ever had. We used to live across the country and recently moved to Denver. We will not eat here again until the Blueberry Donut is back on the menu. There are far too many other restaurants to try in Denver. Why would they get rid of their signature desert? I’ve spoken to 15 – 20 people asking for restaurant recommendations, and whenever they mention Block & Larder… the Blueberry Donut is in the same breath. I feel like I’m crushing dreams when I tell people they no longer carry the Blueberry Donut. Pass the word… NOBLUEBERRYDONUT = NOLONGEREATINGHERE

Great atmosphere! Open air set up. Killer cured meats. Great friendly staff. Huge full stock bar. Music is background level… not dominate. Cool spot.

Three Friends and I had a fantastic dinner at Block and Larder. The menu is best for omnivores. We enjoyed bison rib, hanger steak, fried chicken, and fish and chips. Each plate had a well curated assortment of spices, but ultimately focused on the natural flavor of the high quality meats — not surprising considering Block and Larder boasts its own in-house butchery. We also enjoyed a well chosen charcuterie, and sharable sides including garlic mushrooms and macaroni and cheese. Our server brought us extra bread when we blew through out first mini-loaf. Again, every plate and flavor was delicious — we left nothing behind. Block and Larder also features a well stocked selection of beer and wine, and a Game of Thrones themed cocktail list. Service was attentive and friendly. The interior is comfortable, relaxed, but still enjoyable upscale for a night out to celebrate a birthday or date. I’m a huge fan and will definitely be back.

Block & Larder sits on the burgeoning strip of Tennyson Street on the Western end of town. With the necessary double name, the restaurant provides lots of food on block-like objects, as well as fatty meat products. For starters, a cheese and meat plate might serve you well. Homemade bread rounds out the small bites; they offer a «bread» pairing menu, to boot. In some ways, I think the kitchen is trying to do too much regarding unique ingredients – see black garlic ricotta and pesto roasted potatoes. Nonetheless, quality is on par with other nicer gastropubs. For libations, you will find a simple drink menu, with a few unique draft beers and wines for the non-cocktail drinkers. A little louder than I would have expected for a nice dinner, but a good date spot regardless. The menu needs a little paring down to provide more focus to restaurant identity, but they have some good mainstays on the menu. Ranging from steaks to olive tapenade, wrapping around to fried chicken sandwiches, this trendy eatery provides meat-heavy options for any palate, but I do recommend the management begin honing in on identity.

Cocktail was great, atmosphere was great, service was great. I give the food. C-. wife ordered a beet gnocchi. Could not tell the difference between gnocchi and beets, no flavor. Gnocchi was very chewy and dense, like a pink eraser. I had a burger ordered medium, it was well done and too peppery to allow the fancy ingredients to shine through. Come enjoy the cocktails, and be satisfied with that!

Stopped here for lunch with a friend. Ordered the bottomless coffee, so I walked in normal, and walked out a changed woman. I had a chicken sandwich, which was tasty, but I honestly don’t remember much about it. I think it had good cheese on it? Maybe? Something like that? The side salad was HUGE though. The service was good, and I have nothing negative to say about Block and Larder, but nothing about the visit really stood out to me. I don’t expect to be wowed everywhere I go, so if I were invited back, I’d give it another shot.

ehhhhhhhh I mean it’s alright. I went here the other day for two reasons: 1) they have bottomless mimosa 2) every place else on the street had a really long wait. I guess why I would just give it an OK is because I just personally am not a fan of these kind of hipster/expensive places. Let me explain, a lot of stuff on the menu looked really good but it’s a place that adds a bunch of ingredients you haven’t heard of. This is great for people who want to try new tastes and have a spin on traditional food. I’m not saying the food was bad at all just different and like most places with this kind of food the price is higher. The service was really great though and they kept the mimosas coming!

Start with the good: the food was outrageous. My boyfriend and I both LOVED our meals. I got the grilled chicken with chile sauce and he got the house burger then we split the pork chips and a side of hoisin green beans. The pork chips were whatever but the rest of the meal(and the drinks) were spot on. The atmosphere was wonderful as well– very rustic. Granted, my partner and I came very late(9pm) but we were sat right away. I did not give this restaurant 5 stars because I do have to agree that the service was lacking. I can’t tell if the issue is poor communication, maybe it’s poor section set up– who knows? All I know is at the beginning of our meal my partner literally stated that he, «felt ignored». As time went on our server seemed to become more attentive and when we did see her she was really sweet. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and will hopefully return for another delicious meal.

Awesome service, atmosphere and food! Every time I come it’s great! The French onion baked potato is awesome! Beer and wine selection is great. Will keep coming.

Amazing Tennyson neighborhood secret. Fresh ingredients, large portions, outstanding service and mouth watering spicy, maple syrup on the fried or grilled chicken. Thrilled to give a full positive review.

Came here for brunch and was extremely disappointed. The service was inattentive and we still left hungry. When we first came in the bartender was very friendly when he seated us. But it was downhill from there. Our server was very aloof and not observant to what we wanted or needed. For two, we spent $ 60! And still left hungry. The coffee alone was $ 4 a cup and had a weird film on the top. The food was mediocre and not worth the trip.

Best meal in Denver! God made the pork chop. Enjoy! I was not even high. OK. One of these statements is not true. The Porkchop was delicious though.

First things first do not expect the owner to give a flying duck if you have a bad experience here. He will result to immature banter back and forth blaming the customer. As was the case when my mother called with a very valid complaint yesterday. We recently went to Block and Larder for my birthday this past week. My mother picked this place and I was honestly hesitant based on the reviews claiming the service was bad. Based on the price and that everything was A La Carte and, I felt we could get much better service and quality elsewhere. She insisted we go… Low and behold I was right! Should have stayed away. We had a group of 8, but the restaurant was far from busy and yet we were there form 7:30pm until 10:00pm. The waitress was standing up at the bar chit chatting with the owner majority of the time we were there. We were having to pretty much bus our own table and clear the plates because she rarely came by to do it. The owner seems to think they were extremely busy, but the place was mostly empty and dead. I don’t think the food was bad… However, it was certainly not worth $ 400 tab! And with the awful service it was certainly not worth it in the least. Also, the plates start at around $ 24 and do not include any sides. If you do want a side you have to dish out another $ 6 – 12 for them. They are family style, but still that is a little absurd to base your pricing like that. A few nights before I went to 240 union to celebrate my birthday with my Boyfriend and had my parents chosen to gone there instead they would have spent far less and the service would have been much much better. Not to the owner. Please realize that your service is not great. Other reviewers have mentioned it! When a customer who spent that much money in your establishment calls to tell you they were displeased have the maturity to take the criticism constructively. It’s your business and reputation on the line. We clearly do not care to return and certainly will let others know about your terrible behavior.

So I’m giving this 4 stars because I really did like this place, though you’ll likely not be able to tell from the review. First off, the staff and service was great. Our waitress was super sweet. We started off with a couple of beers. They have a great beer selection. I was super happy they had a sour on tap. We also got the meat and cheese plate. I’m sorry. I totally appreciate that they do stuff in house and do the local sourcing and such, but that doesn’t always equal good outcomes. I found all the meat to be terribly under seasoned. They mostly tasted like pork fat in different forms. This may sound good but it really wasn’t. I was sad. All the cheeses were fantastic as was their house made bread though. Doubtful the cheese were made in house however. We got the octopus which was perfect. SOGOOD. We also got the striped bass in a coconut curry sauce. This was a huge disappointment. If you’re going to serve skin-on fish, that skin had better be potato chip crisp. Soggy skin is disgusting. Also, there was zero coconut or curry flavor. There was a nice mild, cream sauce of indiscernible flavor. For the side we got the brussels sprouts with pig candy. It was delic. We got the blueberry cheesecake which I thought was about as boring as they come but my husband LOVED it. For some reason. So yes, we had complaints but still liked this place and would go back. Obviously avoiding what made us unhappy the first go around.

Awesome, rustic, spot on cooking. Kentucky fried chicken has nothing on the fried chicken I had at block and larder. This place is a cool find amidst the hustle and bustle of this strip on Tennyson. Everything feels down to earth yet upscale at the same time. Excellent wine list. Lots of mouth watering options. I read about the fried chicken from other Unilocal reviews and it did not disappoint. Often I worry it will be greasy but instead crisp and clean. The Brussels sprouts were a nice side. Friendly service and good wine options. Definitely a solid place and I’d love to return.

Block & Larder has a great menu and amazing cocktails. The restaurant and bar is modern rustic, with a relaxed, casual but hip atmosphere. We ordered oysters, the espresso steak fries, mushrooms and burgers. I also got the Duckworth off their cocktail menu and it was strong and tasty. We sat at the bar(because it was late during the week) and the bartender was friendly and provided attentive service. We’ll definitely be back!

I can’t even begin to explain how pumped I am that there’s a steakhouse type restaurant on Tennyson! This place is exactly what Tennyson needed with the new American flare. You can come here and get a steak, or a burger, fish or pork chops and have some seriously good sides like brussels sprouts, truffle fries, meat and cheese board, etc… While this place is far different than the owners first restaurant, Fresh Craft, one thing the two have in common are a bustling bar scene. The bar scene here is sheikh and modern. Long wide area with a standing long tall boy for bar goers to place their drink and chat. There’s booths and tall tables as well. There’s a lot of really interesting cocktails, beers and wine selections. My date got the sword of power(or something like that) and they had smoked the water overnight to make the ice cubes! Literally, this drink was made for hours and it cost $ 10, unreal! To eat, we started with the panzanella, which was divine! Fresh with the basil and tomato and yummy with the fried bread balls, balsamic and cheese. Our server recommended it and it was a hit! We also had the truffle fries, burger and brussels sprouts. Also excellent choices. The service was friendly and quick. Three different staff members stopped by to check on us. My only beef with this place is the prices are a bit steep and not really the Tennyson prices we’re all used to. But, we will definitely return here and try some of the other menu items.
