Im a vj. i played a show with ScaTTer GaTHer here at curtis street. small but friendly, and i projected on the ceiling, which was a first for me, but the crowd enjoyed it, and the floor filled up! come check out bands, eat food, and drink, cuz that is what curtis street seems to be about!

What bar have you ever gone to where they won’t sell you a pitcher of beer because they only own three pitchers and they’re reserved for the band? I’m all about a good time at a dive, but that’s just plain weak.

meh I like that it feels like a bar you would find in a small airport in the 80s.

This might not be the venue for you: If you consider anything not a lounge to be a dive bar. If the lead singer of Git Some is the scariest man you have ever seen. If you like to watch bands play while chatting with your girls and drinking as many Chardonays or even microbrews as you can stomach and drunk texting every last bro in Denver. If you consider Colfax… in Lakewood… the ghetto. But If you like to dance, pogo or thrash on the floor, If you like catching a band’s second performance(ever or in the last 5 years) on their used and abused equipment, If you understand the careful art of making sure the bands feel like they are playing to someone and so rotate out onto the patio only when it’s «your turn», If you are impressed that a music venue offers food at all even if you’ll never probably eat it, If you think DIY or family-run is just about perfect then you will probably like Old Curtis Street too.

Finally a dive that I don’t feel like I need a tetanus shot to use the bathroom in, however don’t get me wrong the bathroom could use a little TLC, but otherwise this place was great! Great Local Music! Friendly Service! Stiff Drinks that didn’t burn a hole in my pocket book. Even tried some of the food– had the beef tacos! They were good enough! Lots of space, nice big patio, and a pool table!!! We had such a blast here seeing our friend’s bands play! We will be back!

Went here to see a friend’s band play. Can’t say I would have gone there for any other reason. It’s a good space for that. Decent stage, and plenty of room for listeners to dance or sit. Cheap drinks, but not great service. Had to search around for the bartender several times. Not my favorite dive bare by any means. Only reason I’ll be back is to hear a band.

This is a good place for local bands to play! I thought the stage was just the right size(for a four piece band) and the sound was great! There are plenty of tables, chairs and booths inside which can be difficult to find in dive bars. Usually there are tables, but no chairs — or better yet — plenty of bar stools, but they’re all missing one to two legs. No shortage of seating in here. The best part about this place is the spacious patio out front. The drinks are cheap and the staff is friendly. I’m looking forward to checking out more local music here or stopping by to try some of their food.

Are these guys STUPID? The bands are loud and most of them suck, but I understand that’s how great music gets heard: a diamond among turds. But SHUTTHEDANGDOORSWHENTHEBANDPLAYS. This is an increasingly residential neighborhood and I’m tired of listening to some louder-is-better screamer and guitar slammers who can’t tune their ax WHEN I’M SUPPOSEDTOBESLEEPING. Idiots!

First things first… the neighborhood is fine. Actually, pretty safe, as far as I’m concerned. It’s kind of a terrible place to see a show, for the aforementioned reasons, but this is how bands get their start in Denver. Sadly, it can even be some bands sink-or-swim. Some nights, there are good shows at bar bar and Curtis Street, so you can see tons of live music and spend about $ 10 per head on cover, while walking the block between the two venues. Final words… don’t be skeered off by the ‘hood. Curtis Street is owned by a nice Greek family, who have taken on budding Denver acts. It’s worth the trip just for that.

We went to Old Curtis Street to see my friend’s band«The Skivies» play. We arrived early so we could get a bite to eat before the other bands(Action Friend, and Circle Number Dot) started playing. The place is a bit of a dive, but I have to say the food was pretty amazing. I was pleasantly surprised. Our bartender was a bit slammed because he was the only one working other than the cook. Come to think of it, I even saw him cooking so maybe was he was the cook too. I highly recommend the House Burrito with Green Chile or the Chicken Fajita Chimichanga. Drink and food prices are very reasonable, especially considering it was a Saturday night and had no drink specials going on. It isn’t the greatest venue for live music but they do get some quality bands to come through. There is a column that blocks the view of the stage some, but I didn’t find it to be a big deal. I looked at some of the upcoming bands that are coming to Old Curtis Street and plan on going back to see some of them. The bar is not that big, but has a pretty cool atmosphere. It looks to be a cool neighborhood type of bar.

OK, it’s a dive bar in a sketchy neighborhood. I understand that, and I am good with that. It has cheap drinks and a friendly and helpful staff. I understand that, and I am good with that. If that were the only merits for the review, it would be sitting at 5-stars. Unfortunately, it isn’t. I am becoming a wee bit of a live music junkie. As far as being a good venue, I have to say it fails miserably. First off, there are big pillars in front of the stage. It obscures at least a portion of the stage from almost every seat. The lighting consisted of the recessed ceiling lights and two red utility-type spotlights. The sound mix was not good, with the singer being drowned out by other mic’s and the horn section(the band was Hearts of Palm). Additionally, I was a bit put off that the only food being offered was vegan. If that is your thing then good on you, however, I like to eat things that once had parents and thought it was pretty odd that the option didn’t exist(the concept of a soysage did not appeal to me in the least). Bottom line, I could see how this place could be fun, and a private party there could be the bomb, but invest in some decent lighting and sound system to rise above mediocrity.

Good place to go if you are fortunate enough to travel without a service dog. My friend was denied entrance by the owner. Bad form!

I go here on occasion to see Veronica play the odd show. I like this place, good bar. Didn’t seem sketchy at all. I used to go to this place when it was the«new» Muddy’s café. My only complaint is around how the p.a. is usually right in front of the singers head… so, go see ugly bands here.

Great little dive. Cheap grubbin food. Decent little patio. So, decided to organize a small Cinco de Mayo Happy Hour with and headed to Old Curtis. I have been going to the gym next door for 6 months and never made it into this place. The adventure was long over due. We were pretty much the only people in the bar and we took up a few tables on the patio till it got too cold. The Huevos Rancheros were great! The Mexican Hamburger also got rave reviews. Monday nights they have a cool DJ who spins 100% vinyl(dig it!) and he and his crew actually take over the kitchen of Old Curtis and make really great vegan food for hella cheap. Seriously, you would not know the corndog was not really dog, I mean hotdog. And the vegan mac’n’cheese, Mmmmmmmmmmmm! So, stop by Old Curtis after work or the gym for a $ 2 draft and the ambiance of a truly authentic and eclectic dive bar ;)

The longer I live in Denver, the more I like it. I have fantastic people and places like Old Curtis Street Bar to thank for that. It is in a neighborhood that the politico’s would call«Up and coming». It is so dark that I had a hard time locating my group of friends. They took up most of the area around the bar. My friends at the bar? Shocking I know. But, there were cheap drinks, friendly — although seemingly frazzled — staff and one hell of a rock band. Moving on up in my delectable dives list.

I guess I may be tougher than I previously thought(which was somewhere between Rainbow Brite and a 5 year old) because I went to Old Curtis Street last night and didn’t feel threatened at all. I even rode my bike there. What I like about this place is its diveyness. It’s dark. It’s dirty. The drinks are cheap and the people friendly. All good things in my book. I think I bought about 37 drinks last night for my friends and myself and that was just about how much my tab was at the end of the night. We went to see a live band so I knew what kind of music to expect which may have helped my experience and although the sound isn’t that great it was still a hell of a lot of fun.
