Just tried to go there. Told by a neighbor store that it has been closed for several years.

Definitely a place for readers who love the themes of thriller and noir! This bookstore specializes primarily in murder mystery books. You kind of get that impression when you walk by and look at the sidewalk and see the outline of a body there. You also realize that this is a themed bookstore. Something that you don’t see very often unless you go to lots of big cities and explore quirky neighborhoods. Inside the bookstore the selection is very cool. There are lots of books whose authors are fairly mainstream but as you dig around more you can find more obscure books as well specializing in… hmmm I wonder what? Might take a detective to figure that out. The people that work here are more than helpful and friendly and know their merchandise well! Definitely worth taking a look in when exploring the Old South Pearl Street neighborhood.

Bring out your dead! The outline of a body on the sidewalk is the first clue that something is under foot. Ha! You half expect a pair of detectives coming ’round the house with magnifying glasses and notebooks in hand. Next to dumbass pics of people standing one step up of the mile-high marker on the State Capitol, laying inside this chalk-body is probably the 2nd most photographed spot in Denver. Inside are Mom and Pop, who know every mystery and murder book ever printed, and they are a frequent spot for author book signings. If Agatha Christie alive today(and who’s to say she’s not?) she would no doubt have a signed copies of «Death on the Nile» here. Located on S. Pearl in an old Victorian-era house, about across from the Black Pearl, this is one of the unique businesses that make this 2-block stretch of Old S. Pearl really worth visiting. MBTB also purchases your old Death Books to keep their stock up. Nice touch, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve sold and bought the same book 5x. All sizes and prices abound, and you can’t talk to Amazon in person about something you might like. If you don’t leave with a book, you’re already dead.

A great place to find books whether you are looking for a bag full of bargains or a pristine signed first edition. The quaint little shop is packed floor to rafters with mysteries of all sizes, prices and types. The bookstore kitty is an added bonus. The shop owner is one of the most knowledgeable I have ever met on the topic of mystery authors. The shop also frequently offers book signings as well!

Another establishment I should have entered sooner on Old South Pearl. Bargain hunter that I am, I was first drawn to the big boxes of books on the porch. Fill a bag for $ 5??? Holy Toledo — are you kidding me? The books are used or advanced reading copies, but still a great bargain. Went on in, was honored to meet the tabby store cat. The owner told me I could fit several more books into my bag if I wanted, but I said no(she hasn’t seen my nightstand.) As I loved on kitty, we discussed kid’s mysteries even though she doesn’t sell them. She gave me a great reference for my action-seeking son and checked out my $ 5 bag. Take it from me, if you’re a reader and especially a mystery fan — Murder by the Book is not to be missed. Friendly, old-fashioned service and a wonderfully helpful owner(and cat.)
